Revelation 1 vs 1-3

John, the disciple of Jesus Christ, the one who called himself, “The one whom Jesus loved,” finds himself alone, ousted and exiled on an island called Patmos for living for Jesus. It sounds and seems backwards. Jesus loves him, he is the son of the Lord, the servant to God Himself, and here he is, in perhaps the most unwanted circumstance and the most undesirable place. But God has brought him here, brought him alone, to give him perhaps the most amazing information/blessing of all time. So too you may be in a troublesome place, wait on the Lord. It could be that the best is yet ahead…for John, just a few verses and he will see the Lord again…whom he has not seen since Jesus ascended into the clouds…

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, or as it is simply titled in the Greek, the apokalypsis, is a wondrous book! Interesting, I went to get the spelling of the Greek word apokalypsis on Blue Letter Bible and I kid you not, I typed in “Revelation 1” and the screen literally said, “Did not connect; potential security issue.” Probably just a server issue on their side but how true that is!! In the midst of the entire world telling you what they believe or theorize to be the truth, what is good, what is right, it’s this book that tells you how it all is really…and how it is all going to end. Certainly a potential security issue to those who want you to listen to them!

But here is reality! Jesus is on the throne…Jesus is in control….and Jesus is coming back. That’s all we need to know to navigate any problem…to handle any situation! Jesus is on the throne, Jesus is in control, Jesus is coming back…with that as our focus…always in the forefront of our minds… then we can handle it, and we can handle it with great strength! If you’ve placed your life, your hope, your trust in Jesus then no problem…He’s in charge! He’s coming back, He’s going to take us home, and He’s prepared a place for us after this world…and after this one life is passed. He promised, He proved. He Himself raised from the dead…Peace is on the way!

Geographically speaking, Patmos is a Greek island located off the coast of Asia Minor (modern day Turkey), situated within the Aegean Sea. It’s much different today than it was in John’s time. Today it’s a tourist attraction, a stop along a cruise ship route, with hotels and trees and such, but in John’s day…it was desolate. It is a very small island, only about 10 miles long and 6 miles wide. Throughout history, it was used as a prison because of its location and generally depressing landscape.

There is little question that the book was written by the Apostle John while he was exiled by Domitian for continually evangelizing. Tertullian, a second century historian, wrote of John’s exile to the island as well as his oil bath. Irenaeus, a second century bishop type in France, wrote about John’s exile by Domitian and his eventual return to Ephesus after Domitian’s demise where John planted several churches. Jerome also, one of the most prominent Christian historians wrote a similar account of John’s exile and authoring of this Book. There are others that we could invoke including Clement of Alexandria, but with these three notable and trustworthy sources we can positively ascribe the Book of Revelation to John the Apostle, while exiled on the Island of Patmos, between 81 and 96 AD (the reign of Domitian).

This is the same John who wrote the Gospel of John and the three Epistles of John. John was quite deliberate in always giving a specific reason for taking the time to put pen to paper. The Gospel of John, the reason is “believe.” John writes in John 20:31, “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and by believing, you might have life through His name.” The Epistles of John, the reason for those is “be confident.” 1 John 5:13 declares, “These things I have written to you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW that you are saved.” John wrote his gospel that we might believe…he wrote his epistles that we might be confident…and he wrote the Book of Revelation that you might be ready. Believe, be confident, be ready. And in the last verses of the book and Bible for that matter Rev 22:20, we hear Jesus say, “Surely I am coming quickly.”

Revelation Chapter 1 Verse 1
•The Revelation of Jesus Christ…This book is the unveiling of Jesus Christ…the revealing of Jesus the Son of God, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. And John, the pastor, the church planter, the last remaining apostle of God writes this to the churches there in Asia Minor because much like us today, they needed Jesus to be revealed in their present situation.
•They were under intense persecution. Caesar Nero had just left the scene and now his eviler twin, not by relation but by action, Domitian was in power. He followed Nero’s pattern of boiling Christians in oil, covering them with tar and using their bodies to light the emperor’s gardens…horrible persecutions. And God knows what the people need, what John needs…to see Jesus on the throne still, to know that He is on the way, and that He has secured their future.
•The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to Him to show His servants. Notice why the Revelation…to show His servants! God gave this to Jesus because Jesus would give this to John and John would give it to his churches and so on!
•A lot of the time I hear people say, “I just don’t seem to be getting any revelation…I’m not growing, things aren’t fresh, they’re not exciting…” Let me be clear…revelation is given to be passed on. Revelation is not given to people to satisfy curiosity…or to feed the intellect. If you approach the Bible with curiosity, with intellectual desire…it’s not going to work for you. Revelation is given to you to flow through you to those around you.
•In Luke 8:18 Jesus said, “Take heed how you hear. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.” Revelation day by day comes to those who will say “I’m in this for You Lord, to be used by You.” Whether it’s in the life of my kids, my wife, my boss, my friends…I want to help others. God says “ok time to equip you!”
•The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants things which must shortly take place. This book will challenge you in many ways and one that is primary is that God is entirely greater than man. God calls Himself the “I am,” throughout the Bible…the ever present and the God of the corporate now. Above time, seeing all of it as one thing, all of time as one event…and the proof of that fact is that God readily will describe in detail the future to come.
•The word shortly there is entachon. It’s actually two words. En meaning in and tachon meaning rapidity. Think tachometer. It gives the RPMs…as the engine revs up! And like that, when you start to see these things rev up…realize the time is now…it’s going to rapidly come about. So, here’s the way to understand prophecy and this book specifically…once you begin to see these things start to happen, it will come about rapidly! And we are the generation that is seeing the tachometer of prophecy rev up! Beginning May 14, 1948…with the rebirth of Israel as a nation in a single night…and since then, the times have accelerated very quickly…
•And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John. Note the word signified. It means literally, “coded.” This book is in code. A most intriguing code. Why would God write it this way? Embedded with code? A couple reasons. First, to provide protection. At this time, if certain people got a hold of it and all was clearly stated…the emperor, the authorities of that day being written of clearly, the Christians would have been in even more danger than they already were! And so, it was coded for their protection.
•It was also written this way to provoke investigation! This book, 22 chapters contains 404 Verses, half of them are a direct reference to the Old Testament. And so, to complete the picture, to crack the code, you have to know your bible! And man, that is true of each day’s circumstances too! So why the code God? To provide protection, to provoke investigation and finally to excite emotion! As the pattern unfolds and we piece the picture together, man it’s like finding treasure!

Revelation Chapter 1 Verse 2
•John says, I not only recorded this but I put my seal of authority as a pastor, as an apostle, as the one whom Jesus loved on it…that it is true! (Quite consistent with chapter 1 of his first epistle) There’s an implied consistency here also of all that John saw when he walked with Jesus…those fireside conversations on nights after long travel days…How this revealing must have made so many things fall into place in John’s own understanding…

Revelation Chapter 1 Verse 3
•This is the only book that comes with a particular promise of blessing. None of the 65 other books contain a stated blessing as Revelation does. Blessed are you who reads this Book, as we are doing today and as you are doing in your own time as you prepare for church. Blessed are you who hears…not just simply hearing it read but man HEAR it! Do you take it in…or are you just listening? Have you ever asked your kid or your husband or your wife or your friend, “Hey, did you hear me?” That is the thought here…not just listening but absorbing it, taking it in!
•But it’s not just reading, hearing…also keeping those things which are written. The blessing of this book is supernatural. But it’s not just in hearing and reading…but also in the keeping!
•The word keep, “tereo,” is a very powerful and particular word. It doesn’t mean to keep like you would a keep sake…it’s not keep it in the drawer, keep it in the bank, keep it in your pocket…this word means keep at it, keep in it, keep after it! It means you are saying “I gotta handle this thing constantly! It is not something I listen to passively or listen to audibly…I’m living it!”
•This is the key to revelation. Not just the book. But a life full of revelation. A life that’s rich. A life that is deep. A life full of meaning and purpose. The road to richness for every one of us…this is it. How can I be blessed? Keep on, keep in, keep at…don’t stop. A lot of Christians do not understand this…the simple key to a blessed life and a secure eternal life is not based on agreement with scripture or with a sermon…it is not in the agreeing with the scripture, it is the doing of the scripture! You keep at it, you keep on it, you keep with it!
•If I were to day that I desire to take my kids on vacation to see their grandparents in South Carolina…I really have a desire to take them there…and so I get in my car and I head due west (the opposite direction). And April says, “where you going?” And I respond, “Honey I really have a desire for the kids to see their grandparents!” And then April says, “Well, you’re going the wrong way! You’re going west…my parents live east.” “But honey I have a desire, a strong desire, to take ya’ll to see them…” But at this point it doesn’t matter because I’m not going to make it…I’m going the wrong way…
•The road to great faith and hope and purpose and revelation is not based on desire…it’s based on direction, you see. If I want to take the kids to see their grandparents, I must go East. I have a decision to make. Agreeing with the concept is not enough. A desire is not enough…
•This is the one simple yet essential point that hardly ever sinks in…that decisions must be made, hard decisions and they must be made for the Lord…you keep on it, you keep at it, you keep in it. And if you do, you’ll be blessed. If you don’t…you won’t.
•As we get further into this book, consider where you’re at first. These are serious times. Unprecedented times. The time is shortly coming…when we’ll stand before the Lord and say, I heard, I read and I kept Your Word Lord…or we won’t.
•I promise you at that moment and throughout eternity, you’re not going to regret what you gave up to make that statement. You’re not going to regret anything that you gave to the Lord. You will regret wasted time. When you knew more about Wall Street, when you knew more about football, when you knew more about cars and home improvement than you did about the Book of Revelation.
•Life is short, heaven is real…this is not a game. This is the time for you husbands to say to your wives and vice versa, honey we’re going to church. This is the time for you parents to say to your children, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” It’s time for you single people to stop spending all of your thought equity on marriage or on money…and get real about your walk.
•John the revelator would say to us “get ready.” The Revelation of Jesus Christ will change your life. Facts about Bible prophecy won’t. Agreement with the scriptural concepts won’t. If you’re here for either of those reasons, you will be very disappointed. But if you’re here saying, “Change my life Lord, use my life Lord, soften my heart Lord and open my eyes to an eternal perspective!”…you’ll find yourself blessed at the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

Juan, el discípulo de Jesucristo, el que se llamaba a sí mismo “Aquel a quien Jesús amaba”, se encuentra solo, expulsado y exiliado en una isla llamada Patmos por vivir para Jesús. Suena y parece al revés. Jesús lo ama, es el hijo del Señor, el siervo de Dios mismo, y aquí está, quizás en la circunstancia más indeseada y en el lugar más indeseable. Pero Dios lo ha traído aquí, lo ha traído solo, para darle quizás la información / bendición más asombrosa de todos los tiempos. Así también usted puede estar en un lugar problemático, espere en el Señor. Puede ser que lo mejor esté todavía por delante ... para Juan, solo unos pocos versículos y volverá a ver al Señor ... a quien no ha visto desde que Jesús ascendió a las nubes ...

¡La Revelación de Jesucristo, o como se titula simplemente en griego, apokalypsis, es un libro maravilloso! Interesante, fui a obtener la ortografía de la palabra griega apokalypsis en Blue Letter Bible y no bromeo, escribí “Apocalipsis 1” y la pantalla literalmente decía: “No conecté; posible problema de seguridad ". Probablemente solo sea un problema del servidor de su lado, ¡pero qué cierto es eso! En medio de todo el mundo diciéndote lo que creen o teorizan que es la verdad, lo que es bueno, lo que es correcto, es este libro el que te dice cómo es todo realmente ... y cómo va a terminar todo. ¡Sin duda un problema de seguridad potencial para aquellos que quieren que los escuches!

¡Pero aquí está la realidad! Jesús está en el trono ... Jesús tiene el control ... y Jesús regresa. Eso es todo lo que necesitamos saber para resolver cualquier problema ... ¡para manejar cualquier situación! Jesús está en el trono, Jesús tiene el control, Jesús regresa ... con eso como nuestro enfoque ... siempre en la vanguardia de nuestras mentes ... ¡entonces podemos manejarlo, y podemos manejarlo con gran fuerza! Si tu has puesto tu vida, tu esperanza, tu confianza en Jesús, entonces no hay problema ... ¡Él está a cargo! Él regresará, nos llevará a casa y nos ha preparado un lugar después de este mundo ... y después de que esta vida haya pasado. Él lo prometió, lo demostró. Él mismo resucitó de entre los muertos ... ¡La paz está en camino!

Hablando geográficamente, Patmos es una isla griega ubicada frente a la costa de Asia Menor (actual Turquía), situada dentro del Mar Egeo. Es muy diferente hoy de lo que era en la época de John. Hoy en día es una atracción turística, una parada a lo largo de la ruta de un crucero, con hoteles y árboles y demás, pero en los días de Juan ... estaba desolado. Es una isla muy pequeña, de solo 10 millas de largo y 6 millas de ancho. A lo largo de la historia, se utilizó como prisión debido a su ubicación y al paisaje en general deprimente.

No hay duda de que el libro fue escrito por el apóstol Juan cuando Domiciano lo exilió para evangelizar continuamente. Tertuliano, un historiador del siglo II, escribió sobre el exilio de Juan a la isla y sobre su baño de aceite. Ireneo, un tipo de obispo del siglo II en Francia, escribió sobre el exilio de Juan por Domiciano y su eventual regreso a Éfeso después de la desaparición de Domiciano, donde Juan plantó varias iglesias. Jerónimo también, uno de los historiadores cristianos más destacados, escribió un relato similar del exilio de Juan y de la autoría de este libro. Hay otros que podríamos invocar, incluido Clemente de Alejandría, pero con estas tres fuentes notables y confiables podemos atribuir positivamente el Libro del Apocalipsis a Juan el Apóstol, mientras estaba exiliado en la isla de Patmos, entre 81 y 96 d.C. Apocalipsis Capítulo 1 Versículo 1

· La Revelación de Jesucristo ... Este libro es la revelación de Jesucristo ... la revelación de Jesús, el Hijo de Dios, Rey de Reyes y Señor de Señores. Y Juan, el pastor, el plantador de iglesias, el último apóstol de Dios que queda, escribe esto a las iglesias allí en Asia Menor porque al igual que nosotros hoy, necesitaban que Jesús se revelara en su situación actual.

· Estaban bajo intensa persecución. César Nero acababa de abandonar la escena y ahora su gemelo más malvado, no por relación sino por acción, Domiciano estaba en el poder. Siguió el patrón de Nerón de hervir a los cristianos en aceite, cubrirlos con alquitrán y usar sus cuerpos para iluminar los jardines del emperador ... persecuciones horribles. Y Dios sabe lo que la gente necesita, lo que Juan necesita ... ver a Jesús todavía en el trono, saber que Él está en camino y que Él ha asegurado su futuro.

· La Revelación de Jesucristo, que Dios le dio para mostrar a Sus siervos. Note por qué el Apocalipsis… ¡para mostrar a Sus siervos! ¡Dios le dio esto a Jesús porque Jesús se lo daría a Juan y Juan se lo daría a sus iglesias y así sucesivamente!

· Muchas veces escucho a la gente decir: "Parece que no estoy recibiendo ninguna revelación ... no estoy creciendo, las cosas no son frescas, no son emocionantes ..." Permítanme ser claro ... la revelación es dado para ser transmitido. La revelación no se le da a las personas para satisfacer la curiosidad ... o para alimentar el intelecto. Si te acercas a la Biblia con curiosidad, con deseo intelectual ... no te va a funcionar. Se te da la revelación para que fluya a través de ti hacia quienes te rodean.

· En Lucas 8:18 Jesús dijo: “Mirad cómo oís. Porque al que tiene, se le dará más; y al que no tiene, hasta lo que parece tener le será quitado ". La revelación llega día a día a aquellos que dirán: "Estoy en esto para ti, Señor, para que me utilices". Ya sea en la vida de mis hijos, mi esposa, mi jefe, mis amigos ... quiero ayudar a los demás. Dios dice: "¡Es el momento de equiparte!"

· La Revelación de Jesucristo, que Dios le dio para mostrar a sus siervos las cosas que deben suceder en breve. Este libro lo desafiará de muchas maneras y una de las principales es que Dios es enteramente más grande que el hombre. Dios se llama a sí mismo el "yo soy", a lo largo de la Biblia ... el siempre presente y el Dios de la corporación ahora. Sobre el tiempo, viendo todo como una sola cosa, todo el tiempo como un evento ... y la prueba de ese hecho es que Dios rápidamente describirá en detalle el futuro por venir.

· La palabra en breve hay entachon. En realidad son dos palabras. En significa en y tachon que significa rapidez. Piense en el tacómetro. Da las revoluciones por minuto ... ¡mientras el motor acelera! Y así, cuando comiences a ver que estas cosas se aceleran ... date cuenta de que es el momento ... va a suceder rápidamente. Entonces, aquí está la manera de entender la profecía y este libro específicamente ... una vez que comience a ver que estas cosas comienzan a suceder, ¡sucederán rápidamente! ¡Y somos la generación que está viendo que el tacómetro de la profecía se acelera! A partir del 14 de mayo de 1948 ... con el renacimiento de Israel como nación en una sola noche ... y desde entonces, los tiempos se han acelerado muy rápidamente ...

· Y lo envió y lo manifestó por medio de su ángel a su siervo Juan. Note la palabra manifestó. Significa literalmente, "codificado". Este libro está en código. Un código de lo más intrigante. ¿Por qué Dios lo escribiría de esta manera? ¿Incrustado con código? Un par de razones. Primero, para brindar protección. En este momento, si ciertas personas se apoderaran de él y todo estuviera claramente establecido ... el emperador, las autoridades de ese día se escribieron claramente, ¡los cristianos habrían estado en mayor peligro de lo que ya estaban! Y así, fue codificado para su protección.

· ¡También fue escrito de esta manera para provocar una investigación! Este libro, de 22 capítulos, contiene 404 versos, la mitad de ellos son una referencia directa al Antiguo Testamento. Entonces, para completar la imagen, para descifrar el código, ¡tienes que conocer tu Biblia! ¡Y hombre, eso también es cierto en las circunstancias de cada día! Entonces, ¿por qué el código de Dios? ¡Para brindar protección, para provocar investigación y finalmente para excitar la emoción! A medida que se desarrolla el patrón y juntamos la imagen, ¡es como encontrar un tesoro!

Apocalipsis Capítulo 1 Versículo 2

· Juan dice, no solo registré esto, sino que puse mi sello de autoridad como pastor, como apóstol, como aquel a quien Jesús amaba… ¡eso es verdad! (Muy consistente con el capítulo 1 de su primera epístola) Hay una consistencia implícita aquí también de todo lo que Juan vio cuando caminaba con Jesús ... esas conversaciones junto al fuego en las noches después de largos días de viaje ... Cómo esta revelación debe haber hecho que tantas cosas encajaran en el propio entendimiento de John ...


Apocalipsis Capítulo 1 Versículo 3

· Este es el único libro que viene con una promesa particular de bendición. Ninguno de los otros 65 libros contiene una bendición declarada como Apocalipsis. Bendito eres tú que lees este Libro, como lo hacemos nosotros hoy y como lo estás haciendo en tu propio tiempo mientras te preparas para la iglesia. Bendito el que oye ... no sólo escucharlo leerlo, ¡hombre, OÍRLO! ¿Lo asimila ... o solo está escuchando? ¿Alguna vez le ha preguntado a su hijo, a su esposo, a su esposa o a su amigo, "Oye, me escuchaste?" Ese es el pensamiento aquí ... no solo escuchar, ¡sino absorberlo, asimilarlo!

· Pero no se trata solo de leer, escuchar ... también conservar las cosas que están escritas. La bendición de este libro es sobrenatural. Pero no se trata solo de escuchar y leer ... ¡sino también de mantenerlo!

· La palabra mantener, “tereo”, es una palabra muy poderosa y particular. No significa guardarlo como si fuera un recuerdo ... no es guardarlo en el cajón, guardarlo en el banco, guardarlo en el bolsillo ... ¡esta palabra significa mantenerlo, sigue en medio de eso, sigue con ganas! Significa que estás diciendo “¡Tengo que manejar esto constantemente! No es algo que escucho pasivamente o de forma audible ... ¡lo estoy viviendo! "

· Esta es la clave de la revelación. No solo el libro. Pero una vida llena de revelaciones. Una vida rica. Una vida profunda. Una vida llena de significado y propósito. El camino a la riqueza para cada uno de nosotros ... este es. ¿Cómo puedo ser bendecido? Sigue, sigue, sigue en ... y no te detengas. Muchos cristianos no entienden esto ... la clave simple para una vida bendecida y una vida eterna segura no se basa en estar de acuerdo con las Escrituras o con un sermón ... no está en estar de acuerdo con las Escrituras, es la ejecución de las Escrituras. ¡Sigue en eso, sigue así, sigue con eso!

· Si hoy quisiera llevar a mis hijos de vacaciones a ver a sus abuelos en Carolina del Sur ... tengo muchas ganas de llevarlos allí ... así que me subo a mi coche y me dirijo hacia el oeste (la dirección opuesta) . Y April dice, "¿a dónde vas?" Y yo respondo: "Cariño, ¡realmente deseo que los niños vean a sus abuelos!" Y luego April dice: "Bueno, ¡vas por el camino equivocado! Vas al oeste ... mis padres viven al este ". "Pero cariño tengo un deseo, un fuerte deseo, llevarte a verlos ... "Pero en este punto no importa porque no voy a lograrlo ... voy por el camino equivocado ...


· El camino hacia una gran fe, esperanza, propósito y revelación no se basa en el deseo ... se basa en la dirección. Si quiero llevar a los niños a ver a sus abuelos, debo ir al Este. Tengo que tomar una decisión. No basta con estar de acuerdo con el concepto. Un deseo no es suficiente ...

· Este es el único punto simple pero esencial en el que casi nunca se asimila ... que deben tomarse decisiones, decisiones difíciles y deben tomarse para el Señor ... usted se mantiene arriba de eso, se mantiene con eso, se mantiene en eso. Y si lo hace, será bendecido. Si no lo hace ... no lo hará.

· A medida que avanzamos en este libro, considere dónde se encuentra al principio. Estos son tiempos serios. Tiempos sin precedentes. Se acerca el tiempo ... cuando estaremos ante el Señor y diremos, escuché, leí y hicé Tu Palabra Señor ... o no lo haremos.

· Te prometo que en ese momento y por toda la eternidad, no te arrepentirás de lo que renunciaste para hacer esa declaración. No te vas a arrepentir de nada de lo que le diste al Señor. Te arrepentirás del tiempo perdido. Cuando sabía más sobre Wall Street, cuando sabía más sobre fútbol, cuando sabía más sobre automóviles y mejoras para el hogar que sobre el Libro del Apocalipsis.

· La vida es corta, el cielo es real… esto no es un juego. Este es el momento para que ustedes, esposos, les digan a sus esposas y viceversa, cariño, vamos a la iglesia. Este es el momento para que ustedes, padres, les digan a sus hijos: "En cuanto a mí y mi casa, serviremos al Señor". Es hora de que ustedes, solteros, dejen de gastar toda su equidad de pensamiento en el matrimonio o en el dinero ... y se vuelvan realistas sobre su caminar.

· Juan el revelador nos decía "prepárense". La Revelación de Jesucristo cambiará tu vida. Los hechos sobre la profecía bíblica no lo harán. El acuerdo con los conceptos bíblicos no lo hará. Si está aquí por cualquiera de esas razones, se sentirá muy decepcionado.
