2 Corinthians 5 vs 1-21

2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 1
•I want you to see something here. This earthly form, Paul says, “Our earthly house,” is a tent, its temporary, not very strong, not very impressive, but what awaits each one of us in the Lord is permanent. A “house” not made with hands, eternal in the heavens! So much better! (You are not your body! You are so much more…) Tents don’t have things…like hot water, a fridge, internet, my bed…SPACE! How important is that right now, ha! What awaits you and I in the Lord is not yet known…but in some small way its like being used to living in a small tent your whole life and then moving into brand new, fully furnished, full amenity house… I’m going to be showing up in heaven looking like Robin Williams from the first Jumanji! HA!!
•How is it that Paul can call all that has happened to him and even what is happening to him presently, “light affliction?” Because there is a part of him that KNOWS (see that in verse 1?) what this life truly is and what truly is yet to come. Not we think, not we hope, we have to get past that…settle this matter completely in your heart of hearts…Jesus said John 14:1, “Don’t be troubled (be settled), you believe in God, then believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you…”
•Let this settle, by faith. I know that Jesus is the Truth. How? Just to name a few…the infallible ever-faithful Word of God. The historical fact of the empty tomb. The unwavering faith of the apostles who embraced their own death rather than deny Jesus is Savior and God. The multiplied millions of changed people, repaired marriages, sobered addicts…and…because He walks with me. He talks with me. He tells me I am His own… (I remember singing that song at my grandparent’s church when I was 8 years old). Blessed Assurance.
•On an ordinary day in 1873, tune composer Phoebe Palmer Knapp sat down at her piano with her friend Fanny Crosby and asked her, “What does the melody say to you?” Crosby, who had been blind from the age of six weeks, listened to the melody once and said, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!” No earthly sight, nothing temporary to dissuade her faith…the things which are not seen are eternal…and so this tent will one day give way and because Jesus promised, because He is faithful, perfect, honest…He is truth…a permanent home awaits each of us.
•Home speaks of living. What will heaven be like? More than earth… Will we be like we are now? Yes, but better. Perfect. As we were originally designed. How can I know more? Great question! Jesus said what awaits you once this tent is taken down…is (He uses the word) a mansion! (John 14:2)
•There’s only one other place this word is used in all of scripture and that is John 14:23…, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home (mansion) with him.” Walk with the Lord…He begins to make furnishing plans, wall color plans, appliance decisions (these are all earthly things but you get the point) and you learn more and more, you know more and more of the permanency and what awaits you after this dirty tent in the woods is put away.
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verses 2 – 3
•Naked speaks of not knowing what will be or what you will have or how you will be covered…you worry about it, everyone does! You have fright of the future but be assured today Christian…Paul says you will in no way be unclothed but further clothed…look at verse 4!
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 4
•What Jesus Christ secured for you and for I at the cross, in paying the high price for our sin, and what Jesus Christ secured for you and for I at the resurrection, proof of life after death for those that make their way to Him, here it is put into metaphorical perspective… It’s bigger, greater, hugely more! To the point that it is able to even swallow whole all of our mortality!
•Let me speak of that word “whole” for a moment. In reading and pondering all that Paul has said so far in this Chapter and the previous Chapter, I believe there is a contextual conclusion that we can make. That really, I know. I sense it, I live it…that somehow sin has made you and I not whole…and when we arrive in the presence of God in heaven, that is where a person is finally fully made whole. Who you are today, who I am today, you are wonderful, kind, talented, amazing…and yet the complete me, the complete you…is the one not made with hands eternal in the heavens…and that’s exciting!
•And you know what else, that is settling. I don’t have to be complete here…I don’t have to be happy every moment, entertained every second, catered to and listened to and respected and never offended…it settles me a bit…accepting the truth…that this world is not my home. It makes me ok for today…
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 5
•What a great statement for two reasons. First, the word used is “given.” Not rewarded, not salaried, not paid us for services rendered or compensated us for work completed. We have received the Holy Spirit and that has been gifted by grace through faith and that’s it! Second, look at the solidity (real word), the strength and imperishability of why we have received the Holy Spirit! As a guarantee. God has gifted us salvation and upon that salvation He has given us an eternity-time (not a life-time) and eternity-time guarantee! The word actually speaks of earnest money or a pledge!
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verses 6 – 7
•Speaking of still yet, in this tent, being something of incomplete…
•Ok, so there is a whole sermon here in this verse but let me just say, Christians, if you are wise, if you would set your mind to trust the Lord, then you are to walk by faith…by what the Word of God tells you, not primarily by what your senses, emotions, human natural faculties tell you…whole sermon there!
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 8
•The moment you are freed from this earthly, temporary, perishable and corruptible tent, you inherit the building, the permanent, the imperishable, the incorruptible, eternal in the heavens. No soul sleep, no purgatory, no earthly reincarnation, these are all nonsense fantasies of mortal men…
•And notice Paul says, “We are confident…” Confidence is an interesting thing because in it are elements of both faith and experience…this is where my heart wants to be always…Yes, we walk by faith and not by sight…but I have seen God faithful in a perfect progression throughout my life…not faithful to what I want…not faithful to my demands…faithful to His Word…and so Paul is confident even in distress and even in death…and that confidence is one part faith…one part experience. This is why it is SO important to not only know the Word but walk the Word…so that you build in your own confidence of faith!
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verses 9 – 11
•“Therefore,” because all of this…Paul is heavenly minded and earthly indestructible! His goal? To draw nearer and nearer to the Lord! And yes, we will all appear, everyone human being made in the image of God in whom is the breath of life, will appear before the judgment seat of God and each one of us, saved and unsaved alike will be judged according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
•You may say, “Wait, I thought as a Christian that my sins are forgiven, why still will I be judged?” You will be judged for the “good” that you have done…while those without Jesus will be judged for the “bad.” Notice the word “or,” not “and.” Here’s the truth of it all…you will either be judged for one or the other, but never both.
•The Christian will receive at the judgement seat of God, eternal rewards for profit, the good, they wrought in their lives…while the unsaved will receive at the judgment seat of God the verdict of condemnation, judgment of the bad. But…all will appear, one by one, before God and stand as it is all reviewed and revealed. And so, Paul says, man for that day, that’s my aim…that’s why I keep going…
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 12
•BOOM! That’s a deep dig by Paul! Hey, if you have to commend yourself, prop yourself up, make yourself out to be better than others by putting others down, you reveal that you are small in heart. But, the other way around, that is someone truly who has confidence of character in and of themselves!
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 13
•People would call him crazy it appears…
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verses 14 – 15
•I have written in my Bible next to these verses, “Paul’s mind is focused, motivated and wrecked by what God did for Him in Jesus.” He is laser focused and on a mission…with strength of heart and the power of resolve but underlying it all is this great sense of gratitude, respect and reciprocal love towards the Father…It’s the secret sauce man…what makes one Christian so effective, so Christ-like and yet others aren’t? It’s gratitude man…one is grateful, one is not…
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verses 16 – 19
•The Christian that is alive in the Lord and near to Jesus doesn’t process the things of the world like their fellow man…Paul says, people hurt me…I seek to understand how to help them…because hurting people hurt people…folks make mistakes…I seek to restore them not cuff them in failure and make them stay there…His first nature, his fleshly nature, is locked in the trunk while the Spirit calls the shot in his life…and especially for the Christian brother or sister, all is forgiven and forgivable in the Spirit…because in Christ, you are a new creation, old things having passed away, all things have become new…
•Now look, if the old things have not passed away then one has no real proof that they are in Christ. No matter what they say. The truth isn’t what you profess, the truth is what you are. It’s like cutting the telephone line and then picking up the phone and there’s a dial tone…one of the greatest proofs of being in Christ is being like Christ…not imputing their trespasses…but you’re so hard on folks…time to give God your heart, man. You’ll be better for it.
2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verses 20 – 21
•How can we lead people to reconcile with God when we won’t allow them to reconcile to us…? This is the blunder of the fleshly Christian. As a Christian, we are the walking righteousness of God through Jesus Christ…whatever you think it is to be a Christian, if it’s not that…you’re wrong and you need to grow up. Let the Lord perhaps today, begin to build that complete you…the mansion…in your heart of hearts!

2 Corintios Capitulo 5 Verso 1
Quiero que vean algo aquí. Esta forma Terrenal, Pablo dice, “Nuestra casa terranal,” es una tienda, es temporal, no muy fuerte, y no muy impresionante, Pero lo que nos espera a cada uno de nosotros en el Señor es permanente. ¡Una “casa” no construida con las manos, eterna en el cielo! Mucho mejor, ( ¡tú no eres tu cuerpo físico! Eres mucho mas que eso…) ¡Tiendas no tienen cosas… como agua caliente, un refrigerador, internet, mi cama…ESPACIO! ¡Y qué importante eso en estos momentos, Ha! Lo que nos espera a mi y a ti en el Señor no es aun conocido… pero en algunas maneras pequeñas, es como acostumbrarse a vivir en una tienda pequeña tu vida entera y después mudarte a una casa nueva, completamente amueblada, y con todas las comodidades… ¡Me voy a presentar en el cielo como Robin Williams en la primer Jumanji! Ha!
•¿Cómo es posible que Pablo puede llamarle a todo eso que le ha pasado, y aun a todo eso que le pasa en el presente, “ligera aflicción”? Porque hay parte de el que SABE (vean eso en el verso 1) lo que esta vida es verdaderamente y lo que verdaderamente va a venir. No, creo que, no espero que, debemos de superar eso… solucionen y establezcan ese sentir y situación en su corazón de una vez y por completo…Jesús dijo en Juan 14:1 “Que nos turben sus corazones (resuelve eso en el), ustedes creen en Dios, entonces crean en Mi también. En la casa de Mi Padre muchas moradas hay. De otra manera, se los hubiera dicho. Voy, pues a preparar lugar para ustedes…”
• Dejemos que esto se resuelva, por Fe. Yo se que Jesús es la Verdad. ¿Cómo? Y solo mencionare algunas cosas… La infalible y siempre fiel Palabra de Dios. El hecho histórico de la tumba vacía. La fe inquebrantable de los apóstoles quienes abrazaron su propia muerte antes que negar que Jesús es Salvador y Dios. Los millones multiplicados de gente cambiada, matrimonios reparados, adictos sobrios… y… por que el camina conmigo. El habla conmigo. El me dice que yo le pertenezco… (recuerdo cantar esa canción en la iglesia de mis abuelos cuando yo tenía 8 años). Seguridad Bendita.
•En un día ordinario en 1973, Compositor de Música Phoebe Palmer Knapp se sentó a su piano con su a miga Fanny Crosby y le pregunto, “¿Qué te dice esta melodía a ti?” Crosby, quien era ciega desde que tenia seis semanas de edad, escucho la melodía una vez y dijo, “! ¡Bendita Seguridad, Jesús es mío!” No vista terrenal, nada temporal que desviara su fe… las cosas que no se ven son eternas… y así mismo esta tienda un día se va a acabar y porque Jesús prometió, porque Jesús es fiel, perfecto, honesto… El es Verdad…una casa permanente nos espera.
•Casa habla de vivir. ¿Por qué es que el cielo es Más que la tierra?... ¿Seremos cómo somos ahora? Si, pero mucho mejor. Perfectos. Como fuimos originalmente diseñados. ¿Cómo puedo saber más? ¡Buena Pregunta! ¡Jesús dijo lo que te espera una vez que esta tienda sea quitada…es (El uso esta palabra) una mansión! (Juan 14:2)
•Solo hay una sola otra vez que esta palabra es usada en otro lugar en la escritura y esa es Juan 14:23…, “Si alguno me ama, Mi Palabra guardara. Y Mi Padre lo amara, y vendremos a Él, y haremos nuestra morada (mansión) con El. Caminen con el Señor… El empezara hacer planes de amueblado, planes de colores para las paredes, decisiones de accesorios (todo esto son cosas terrenales, pero ustedes entienden lo que quiero decir) y ustedes aprenderán mas y más, y sabrán mas y mas de la permanencia y lo que les espera después que esta tienda sucia en el bosque es quitada.
2 Corintios Capitulo 5 Versos 2-3
•Desnudo habla de no saber que será, o que tendrás, o como te cubrirás… ustedes se preocupan por eso, todos lo hacemos. Tienes temor por el futuro, pero ten seguridad hoy Cristiano…Pablo dice ¡no estarás sin ropas, pero aun mas vestido…miren el verso 4!
2 Corintios Capitulo 5 Verso 4
•Lo que Jesus aseguro por ti y por mi en la cruz, pagando el precio mas alto por nuestros pecados, y lo que Cristo Jesus aseguro por ti y por mi en la resurrección, prueba de vida después de la muerte para aquellos que llegan a Él, y aquí se los pongo en una perspectiva metafórica… ¡Es mas grande, mucho mejor, y aun más grandiosa! ¡Al punto que puede hasta tragarse enteramente toda nuestra mortalidad!
•Permítanme hablarles de esa palabra “enteramente” por un momento. Habiendo leído y meditando en todo lo que Pablo ha dicho hasta este momento en este capitulo y el capitulo anterior, yo creo que hay una conclusión textual que podemos hacer. Que yo realmente se. Lo presiento, lo vivo…que de alguna manera el pecado me hace a mi y a ti No Completos… y cuando lleguemos a la Presencia de Dios en el cielo, ahí es donde esa persona es finalmente hecha completa y total. Quien eres Tu hoy, y quien soy yo hoy, tu eres maravilloso, bondadoso, talentoso, grandioso…y a pesar de eso el completo y total yo, el completo y total Tu… no es el que esta hecho con manos eternas en los cielos… y eso es muy emocionante!
•Y saben que eso hace también, eso se resuelve en el corazón. No tengo que ser o estar hecho completo aquí en la tierra… no tengo que ser feliz cada momento de mi vida, ser entretenido cada segundo, no tengo que estar atendido ni ser escuchado, respetado y nunca ser ofendido… y eso me calma un poco…aceptar la verdad…que este mundo no es mi casa. Eso me hace estar bien por ahora.
2 Corintios 5 Verso 5
•Que gran afirmación es esa por dos razones. Primero, la palabra dada aquí es “dado” (en la frase nos a dado del verso 5). No recompensado, no salariado, no pagados por servicios rendidos a nosotros, o compensados por trabajo completado para nosotros. ¡Hemos recibido el Espíritu Santo y eso nos ha sido regalado por gracia a través de fe y eso es todo! Segundo, miren a la solidificación (palabra real), la fuerza, y la emperecibilidad del Porque hemos recibido El Espíritu Santo! ¡Como garantía ¡Dios nos ha regalado Salvación y sobre esa Salvación nos ha dado una Vida Eterna (no un tiempo de vida) pero tiempo de vida Eterno garantizado!
2 Corintios Capitulo 5 Versos 6-7
•Hablando todavía de esta tienda, siendo algo de Incompleto...
•Ahora bien, hay un sermón completo aquí en este verso, pero permítanme decirles, Cristianos, si ustedes son sabios, si enfocan sus mentes a confiar en Dios, entonces ustedes deben caminar en fe…de acuerdo lo que dice la Palabra, no primeramente por sus sentidos, emociones, o lo que sus facultades humanas les dicen… ¡sermón completo aquí!
2 Corintios Capitulo 5 Verso 8
•Desde el momento que eres libre de esta tienda terrenal, temporal, perecible y corrupta, y hemos heredado el edificio, el permanente, el emperecible, el incorruptible, eterno en los cielos. No alma dormida, no purgatorio, no reencarnación terrenal, todo esto son fantasías del hombre mortal…
•Y tomen nota de lo dice Pablo, “ Tenemos la Confianza, y estamos Seguros” … Confianza es algo interesante por que en ella hay dos elementos fe y experiencia… y es ahí donde mi corazón quiere estar siempre… Si nosotros caminamos por Fe, y no por vista… pero he visto a Dios ser fiel, en una progresión perfecta a través de mi vida… no fiel a las cosas que quiero…no fiel a mis demandas…pero fiel a Su Palabra…y Pablo tiene seguridad y confianza aun en su dolor y en su muerte…y esa confianza que el tiene es parte fe… y parte experiencia. ¡Y es por eso que es TAN importante no que solo conozcas la palabra de Dios, pero también que camines la Palabra de Dios…y así construirás mas tu confianza en Dios de Fe!
2 Corintios Capitulo 5 Versos 9-11
•“De tal Manera,” que es por eso que… ¡Pablo en su mente esta enfocado en las cosas celestiales, y terrenalmente es indestructible!
¿Cuál es su Meta? ¡Acercarse mas y más al Señor! Y Si, todos vamos a aparecer para ser juzgados, todo ser humano creado a la Imagen de Dios en quien esta el aliento de vida, apareceremos en la Silla de Juicio de Dios y cada uno de nosotros, salvos y no salvos, seremos juzgados de acuerdo con lo que hemos hecho, ya sea bueno o malo.
•Quizás ustedes digan, “ Espera, Pensé que como Cristiano que mis pecados estaban perdonados, ¿porque entonces aun voy a ser juzgado? “Tu serás Juzgado por lo “bueno” que has hecho…mientras los que no tienen a Jesús serán Juzgados por lo malo.” Noten la palabra “O” no “y.” Aquí esta la verdad de todo, serás juzgado por alguna de esas dos cosas, pero nunca por las dos.
•Los Cristianos recibiremos La Silla de Juicio de Dios, premios eternos de ganancia, lo bueno que hicieron en su vida…mientras que los que no son salvos recibirán en la Silla de Juicio de Dios el veredicto de condenación, juicio de lo malo. Pero, …todos aparecerán uno por uno, ante Dios y parados conforme todo es revisado y revelado. De modo que Pablo dice, por ese día, es mi mira, mi meta…y es por eso por lo que continuo…
2 Corintios Capitulo 5 Verso 12
•BAM! ¡Eso ahí es profundo de parte de Pablo! Oye, si tu tienes que comendarte a ti mismo, levántate a ti mismo, y has que tu seas mejor que otros, humillando a otros, y eso revela que en el ¡corazón eres muy pequeño.! Pero la otra manera, es alguien que verdaderamente tiene confianza en Dios y seguridad en EL, confianza y seguridad de carácter.
2 Corintios Capitulo 5 Verso 13
•Parecía que la gente lo llamaba loco…
2 Corintios 5 Versos 14-15
•He escrito en mi Biblia a lado de estos versos, “ Pablo esta mentalmente enfocado, motivado y conmovido por lo que Dios hizo en el a través de Jesús. El esta con una luz laser enfocado y en una misión… con fuerza de corazón, y el poder de haber resuelto en su corazón, pero bajo todo esto hay una capa de gran sentir de gratitud, respeto y amor reciproco hacia el Padre…es la Salsa Secreta… lo que hace a un Cristiano tan efectivo, entonces ser como Cristo, ¿y otros no? Es gratitud, unos son tienen agradecimientos y otros no…
2 Corintios Capitulo 5 versos 16-19
•El Cristiano que esta vivo en el Señor y esta cerca de Jesus no procesa las cosas del mundo como su compañero… Pablo dice, la gente me hiere …busco entender como ayudarles…porque la gente herida, hiere a otros…la gente comete errores… y busco restaurar los no esposarlos en fracaso y dejarlos ahí… Su primer naturaleza, su naturaleza carnal, esta bajo llave en la cajuela mientras el Espíritu lo llama a su propósito de vida…y especialmente para el hermano o hermana Cristiana, todo es perdonado y perdonable en el Espíritu… porque en Cristo, eres un nueva creación, las cosas viejas han pasado, y es ahora todo nuevo…
•Ahora miren, si las cosas viejas no han pasado, entonces uno no tiene prueba verdadera que en Cristo. No importa lo que digan. La verdad no es lo que profesas, o lo que dices, la verdad es lo que eres. Una de las pruebas mas grandes de Ser Cristiano es ser como Cristo…no acusándolos y juzgándolos por sus pecados… pero somos tan duros con ellos… es hora que le entregues tu corazón a Cristo. Esteras mejor por haberlo hecho.
2 Corintios Capitulo 5 Versos 20-21
•¿Como podemos guiar a la gente que se reconcilie con Dios cuando nosotros no les permitimos que se reconcilien con nosotros…? Ese es el detalle del Cristiano carnal… Como Cristiano, somos nosotros La Justicia caminando de Dios a través de Cristo Jesus… y lo que sea que tu pienses que es ser un cristiano, si no es eso… estas equivocado, y necesitas crecer. Quizás deberías hoy dejar que el Señor, construya ese completo Tu… la mansión…en lo mas profundo de tu corazón.
