Isaiah 42 vs 10-25
Isaiah Chapter 42 Verses 10 – 13
There is no doubt that the first nine verses of this chapter speak of the coming Messiah and specifically about Jesus Christ. And now, after that nine-sentence introduction of Jesus, Isaiah seemingly bursts forth in a sort of praise and like several other places in the Bible we see the words, “Sing a new song…”
Does it impress you that all human beings have unique fingerprints? Even identical twins will have different fingerprints. The complex patterns of ridges and furrows formed by the cartilage of your outer ears are remarkably unique in every human being. The textures in the iris of the eye in each person is unique to them. The bumps and ridges on the tongue are unique to each person. And of course, your DNA is intricately specific to only you. What’s the point?
There are about 8 billion people on the planet today and each person not only has one unique characteristic, but several. Not impressed yet? 8 billion is a much larger number than you think it is. If you started now and took no breaks or naps, you would count to 1 billion in 31 years and 8 months! Ok impressive, what’s the point!?
My song unto the Lord of lords, my conversation with and praise unto Jesus, is a new song! That’s the point and I want you to see that. Why does God love to talk with you? Why does it matter so much that you and I uniquely and individually praise the Lord? Because it is new to all of creation! And when one soul encounters Jesus for real for real…, gives their life to God and finds forgiveness of sin and everlasting life, in all of heaven and earth, a NEW SONG is heard and God is glorified!!!!!!!!!!
And most likely what Isaiah is speaking about is the coming physical earthly reign of Jesus Christ during that 1,000-year Millennial Reign spoken of in Revelation 20:1-3, “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished.”
How do we know that or why do I think that…, because those that give praise are the coastlands and look, all lands are coastlands. We’ve divided the planet up into continents…, did God do that? Where is North America in the Bible? All the land of the earth is coastland and so when the Bible speaks of the coastlands it is speaking of all peoples! When Jesus reigns during that thousand-year Satanless period, all people, the whole world will give praise to the Servant of God!
Isaiah Chapter 42 Verse 14
There’s a very interesting statement here in that God says “I have been still and restrained Myself.” It’s just a fact that I do want to point out. That for righteousness reasons, in your life and in mine, at times, God does restrain Himself.
Whether it be a time of correction and consequence that we are facing, calling out to God and He remains silent, or perhaps in a time of worry and waiting…, in order to mature us in the faith, there is a possibility at least that God is indeed purposefully remaining still…
Isiah Chapter 42 Verses 15 – 20
Most agree and certainly so do I that Isaiah is speaking about the nation of Israel. He will speak specifically of Jacob and Israel in verse 24 and this blindness and deafness, this is the spiritual state of Israel today and as it will be when the Lord returns. But they will remain spiritually blind and deaf no more when Jesus comes on the scene.
Zechariah 12:10 says, “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.” And at that time, Paul writes about it in Romans 11:26-27, “For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so, all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob.””
Our play here is to not fall into the same spiritually dark trap as Israel in our own lives. “Seeing many things, but you do not observe, opening the ears (of others), but he (you yourself) does not hear.” Let that not be said of us by any host of heaven but that we should be humble in the hands of a God fully empowered and welcomed to mold us and shape us according to His Word and will!
Isaiah Chapter 42 Verses 21 – 25
Are you aware of your own spiritual state tonight? It’s partly about you wanting to grow and be closer to the Lord, yes. But its also partly about what has happened to Israel. That today and throughout history really, hardship hasn’t only come upon that nation because they are to be an example of the power of God, the deliverance of God but also because they walk in their own ways…
And in many lives, I hope not completely yours but I also know that none of us have arrived and therefore there is an element of this in every life, everyone of us needing to work on this, that walking in our own ways of rebellion and pride and distrust of God is burning down parts and pieces of the beautiful mansion of a heart and life and marriage and ministry and career that God has purposed for you and for me and the deceitfulness of sin makes us not even know it…
But, if we take it to heart, and walk by faith, God can bring even beauty from the ashes of what has already burned! Spiritual sight, crystal clear hearing and understanding where there once was deafness…
The point is that no one needs to wait until the Lord physically returns or until the entire purposed mansion is nothing but a heap of ashes. What is it going to take to get your attention? As a child of God, God will get your attention. Hebrews 12:6 says, “For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” Why? Because proportionate to the amount that God has your trust, you have your freedom. And God is in the very business of setting His children free!
