Revelation 21 vs 1-8

Romans 12 speaks of being transformed by “The renewing of your mind.” This is the business God is in…making things new. And that does not mean only by correction but also by refreshing! This is what He does! He makes things new. He fixes things, He makes all things wonderful in its time…and He does it in an ultimate way! What does God want you to do? He’ll make it new if you trust Him! Remember when your marriage was new? Your career? Remember when you first came to this church? Remember…and return! He can do that! In fact, He loves to do that!!
Revelation Chapter 21 Verses 1 - 2
•The word here in the Greek for “new” literally means recently made, fresh, unused, unworn…so literally this is a new heaven and a new earth. But something else cool here, this word for “new” in the Greek also means “unprecedented, unheard of” and I love that! I do believe that the best is yet to come for me, for you, for this church as we together trust in the Lord. And certainly as we look forward to heaven!
•What’s heaven going to be like? 1 Corinthians 2:9, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has even entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those that love Him.” What is heaven going to be like? So good. That’s all I can say. We can’t even begin to imagine the splendor, the grandeur, the relief, the exhale, the magnificence and brilliance and majesty that is to come for those that have entered into the family of God through Jesus!
•But why the new heaven? I understand the new earth. Pollution, junk, trash, thorns, poison ivy, cotton balls (I hate cotton balls!)…, but the new heaven? Well, something happened there. Job 15:14-16 says, “What is man, that he could be pure? And he who is born of a woman, that he could be righteous? If God puts no trust in His saints, and the heavens are not pure in His sight, how much less man, who is abominable and filthy, who drinks iniquity like water!”
•Interesting statement…that “the heavens are not pure in His sight.” Why? Well, we see in the Book of Job that somehow, someway, Satan is still able to present himself before God in heaven. We see it in Job 1, we see it in Job 2 and we even see it briefly in the Book of Revelation in Chapter 12, somehow Satan still shows up, somewhere, someway, in heaven…and so even heaven is defiled by sin… Satan was cast out when? Before or after he fell? After…
•So, here we are. Satan gone. Death gone. Sin gone. All that is impure gone. Everything is made new. What will it be like? So good… Whatever you think, imagine or hope…its better. And John throws in, “There was no more sea.” Why? Perhaps John hated the sea! Remember, he’s exiled, on the island of Patmos, he IS CastAway…HA And he is very excited that there is no more sea! This could also mean that there is no more division. White, black, Italian, Greek, Demobrats, Repulicants…the seas speak of nations in other parts of the Bible and so this could mean simple unity, simple peace…
Revelation Chapter 21 Verse 3
•This is a prophetic promise twice fulfilled. The nation of Israel, the people of God, were given a promise in Exodus Chapter 6 verses 6-8, “I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord.” That promise was fulfilled but it also spoke of and pointed to this day… When for all nations, all of the people of God, He would do the same thing.
•What’s the point? God’s promises fulfilled. That’s all. From the least to the greatest…from the national level, planetary level to the personal level…God will make good on every promise He has ever made. From explicit to implicit to typographical, there are tens of thousands of promises in the Bible that God has made. And He will be faithful to every one of them! Now, that’s a fact. Imagine if you knew them and trusted Him…no problem navigating any day of your life…such value in growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ!
Revelation Chapter 21 Verses 4 – 5
•Are you carrying sorrow? Struggle with sadness, depression, loss from your past? No more… There is coming a day when that will be no more. Four times in one verse, no more… So, it’s a season. Maybe where you’re at today, maybe even the life you live… It’s just a season and because of what Jesus has accomplished, done for me and for you, given us by the giving of Himself, one day, you will be ok…and not just making it…I’m talking about no more struggle!
•This is the work that God will ultimately do because He has promised but here is the wonder and hope of becoming even today a disciple of Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…now…all things have passed away, behold all things are made new.” Yes, this is what He will do one day for all of us but even today, there is healing in the Person of Jesus Christ.
•When you became a Christian, that day, you were new. Free. The past now fuels you, it doesn’t faze you any longer. Who you were, what you’ve done, what’s been done to you, it’s left behind…washed away in the cleansing power of the Savior…and just as John says here, God and you…now dwell together.
•Tears come, He consoles you…not Dr. Phil, not your momma, God’s consolation when allowed, when He is trusted, it actually works! Your days cease to be filled with death, just breathing to death, and now life enters and life abundant! Sorrow, crying, pain over what you’ve done and even who you are…GONE! Because He has arrived…just like heaven, just like this scene. “Behold,” God says, “I make all things new!
•Now, in the Old Testament this whole scene was also given to us in detail and we are given what I believe and accept as the reason why ALL sorrow will be gone. I mean, sorrow over self, I get it…I understand why that is gone because we will grasp the grace of God in such way as to actually receive it with gratitude and we will be able to stop being so selfish in our prideful regrets…and just let it all go and be alive…when we are with Jesus.
•But what about my mom? Or your dad. Or your sibling or spouse that rejected Jesus Christ? Or your child? I cannot imagine the sorrow of looking around at the wonder of heaven and not seeing my child there… Here’s the answer to that difficulty. Isaiah 65:17, “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.” It’s a stunning truth…that those who were cast into the Lake of Fire at the White Throne Judgement, with them was cast even their memory. Horrifying in a way…but that is the degree of separation there will come in the Lord and in that, I won’t sorrow over who is not there…because I won’t know…
Revelation Chapter 21 Verse 6
•Jesus upon the cross cried out, “It is finished,” and here we read something so very similar, “It is done.” The word Jesus used literally means, “paid,” and the word God uses here literally means, “passed.” It is paid…Jesus cried out…and because of that…God responds...it is passed. This is my story. My sin is paid for by Jesus. I can’t and couldn’t have paid for it myself, but He did it for me…and because of that…all of my sin…has passed. It’s the same with you! Walk in that! How? Through repentance! Why can’t you move on from the sin of your past? I believe because it is still a part of who you are! Get aggressive! Change yourself to the point that even you convince YOU that it’s not YOU anymore…then the guilt will die. That is the power of repentance! And just let me say this, true repentance is always aggressive!
•One other thing here…and I only know this because I grew up with an English teacher as a mother (I know, doesn’t always seem that way since I make up a bunch of my own words, HA), “It is finished,” came before “It is done.” Why? Finish is the word you use for a person, done is the word you use for a thing. Before God fixes the situation, He fixes you. Let me say it this way… Before the situation will be addressed and fixed, it’s you who has to go first. This is the way God works because He is ultimately concerned about you, not so much the circumstance. So, why hasn’t it been fixed? Perhaps you need to soften up, humble yourself and allow God to change in you what needs to be changed…
Revelation Chapter 21 Verses 6 – 8
•It is the courageous that face themselves and that face the cross. The adventurist, the valiant, the gutsy…the tough and tenacious…it is the strong, because it takes true grit…to actually be honest with ourselves and see the plain truth, that we are all broken, busted…we all sin and we all need a savior…and we gotta go for it, man! And look, God Himself says here that it is the cowardly who never go there. Who see the hard path, the path of reality and the wide path, the path of fantasy and choose the easy way…
•And choosing the easy way, wimping out…right now, today, tonight, leads you somewhere. The second death? Well yes, but see it also leads you to unbelieving, to abominable living, to murder, to fornication, to substance abuse, to idolatry and lying…and yes, ultimately to the second death…
•But why go there man when the water of life is freely available to actually quench that thirst? Another drug won’t do it. Another job, another man, another car, another another another, there is no other man…Only God can satisfy what you seek. And He freely gives, I love that about Him…He doesn’t make Himself out of touch, out of reach, hard to get…not at all…
•God creates again…that’s the business He is in…You haven’t done too much, gone too far, lost yourself, lost their respect for good…none of that, God can and will and does just create again. We see it here… And with an opening of your heart and a humbling of yourself, He will do it with you too!

Romanos 12 habla de ser transformados por “La renovación de vuestra mente”. Este es el negocio en el que Dios está... haciendo cosas nuevas. ¡Y eso no significa solo corregir, sino también refrescar! ¡Esto es lo que él hace! Él hace las cosas nuevas. Él arregla las cosas, Él hace que todas las cosas sean maravillosas en su tiempo... ¡y lo hace de una manera definitiva! ¿Qué quiere Dios que hagas? ¡Él lo hará nuevo si confías en Él! ¿Recuerdas cuando tu matrimonio era nuevo? ¿Tu carrera? ¿Recuerdas cuando viniste por primera vez a esta iglesia? ¡Recuerda… y vuelve! ¡Él puede hacer eso! De hecho, ¡le encanta hacer eso!
Apocalipsis Capítulo 21 Versículos 1 - 2
· La palabra aquí en griego para “nuevo” literalmente significa recién hecho, fresco, sin usar, sin usar…así que literalmente esto es un cielo y una tierra nuevos. Pero hay algo más genial aquí, esta palabra para "nuevo" en griego también significa "sin precedentes, inaudito" ¡y eso me encanta! Creo que lo mejor está por venir para mí, para ti, para esta iglesia mientras juntos confiamos en el Señor. ¡Y ciertamente mientras esperamos el cielo!
· ¿Cómo será el cielo? 1 Corintios 2:9, “Cosas que ojo no vio, ni oído oyó, ni aun han subido en corazón de hombre, son las que Dios ha preparado para los que le aman”. ¿Cómo será el cielo? Tan bueno. Esto es todo lo que puedo decir. ¡Ni siquiera podemos comenzar a imaginar el esplendor, la grandeza, el alivio, la exhalación, la magnificencia, el brillo y la majestuosidad que está por venir para aquellos que han entrado en la familia de Dios a través de Jesús!
· Pero ¿por qué el cielo nuevo? Entiendo la nueva tierra. Contaminación, chatarra, basura, espinas, hiedra venenosa, bolas de algodón (¡odio las bolas de algodón!)…, pero ¿el cielo nuevo? Bueno, algo pasó allí. Job 15:14-16 dice: “¿Qué es el hombre para que pueda ser puro? ¿Y el que nace de mujer, para ser justo? Si Dios no confía en sus santos, y los cielos no son puros delante de él, ¡cuánto menos el hombre, que es abominable e inmundo, que bebe la iniquidad como agua!”
· Declaración interesante... que "los cielos no son puros delante de Él". ¿Por qué? Bueno, vemos en el Libro de Job que de alguna manera, Satanás todavía puede presentarse ante Dios en el cielo. Lo vemos en Job 1, lo vemos en Job 2 e incluso lo vemos brevemente en el Libro de Apocalipsis en el Capítulo 12, de alguna
manera Satanás todavía aparece, en algún lugar, de alguna manera, en el cielo... y así hasta el cielo está contaminado por el pecado... Satanás fue echado fuera ¿cuándo? ¿Antes o después de que se cayera? Después…
· Aquí estamos. Satanás ya no esta, desapareció. No hay muerte, se fue, desapareció. Ya no hay pecado, se ha ido. Todo lo que es impuro se ha ido. Todo está hecho a nuevo. ¿Cómo será? Tan bueno... Lo que sea que pienses, imagines o esperes... es mejor. Y Juan añade: “Ya no había mar”. ¿Por qué? ¡Quizás Juan odiaba el mar! Recuerda, está exiliado, en la isla de Patmos, ES náufrago… JA ¡Y está muy emocionado porque ya no hay mar! Esto también podría significar que no hay más división. Blancos, negros, italianos, griegos, Partido Demóncratas, partito Repub-lsivos… los mares hablan de naciones en otras partes de la Biblia y entonces esto podría significar simple unidad, simple paz…
Apocalipsis Capítulo 21 Versículo 3
· Esta es una promesa profética cumplida dos veces. A la nación de Israel, el pueblo de Dios, se le dio una promesa en Éxodo Capítulo 6 versículos 6-8: “Os sacaré de debajo de las cargas de Egipto, os libraré de su servidumbre y os redimiré con brazo extendido y con grandes juicios. Os tomaré por pueblo mío, y seré vuestro Dios. Entonces sabréis que yo soy el Señor vuestro Dios que os saco de debajo de las cargas de los egipcios. Y os introduciré en la tierra que juré dar a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob; y os la daré en herencia: Yo soy el Señor.” Esa promesa se cumplió pero también hablaba y apuntaba a este día… Cuando por todas las naciones, todo el pueblo de Dios, Él haría lo mismo.
· ¿Cuál es el punto de? Las promesas de Dios cumplidas. Eso es todo. De lo más pequeño a lo más grande…desde el nivel nacional, nivel planetario hasta el nivel personal... Dios cumplirá cada promesa que ha hecho. Desde explícitas hasta implícitas y tipográficas, hay decenas de miles de promesas en la Biblia que Dios ha hecho. ¡Y Él será fiel a cada uno de ellos! Ahora, eso es un hecho. Imagínese si los conociera y confiara en Él... no hay problema para navegar cualquier día de su vida... ¡qué valor en crecer en la gracia y el conocimiento de Jesucristo!
Apocalipsis Capítulo 21 Versículos 4 – 5
· ¿Llevas pena? ¿Luchas con la tristeza, la depresión, la pérdida de tu pasado? No más... Viene un día en que eso ya no será más. Cuatro veces en un verso, no más… Entonces, es una temporada. Tal vez donde estás hoy, tal vez incluso la vida que vives... Es solo una temporada y debido a lo que Jesús ha logrado, hecho por mí y por ti, dado por el don de Sí mismo, un día, estarás bien... y no solo lograrlo... ¡Estoy hablando de no más lucha!
· Esta es la obra que Dios finalmente hará porque lo ha prometido, pero aquí está la maravilla y la esperanza de convertirnos incluso hoy en un discípulo de Cristo. 2 Corintios 5:17 dice: “Si alguno está en Cristo, nueva criatura es… ahora… todas las cosas pasaron, he aquí todas son hechas nuevas”. Sí, esto es lo que Él hará un día por todos nosotros, pero aún hoy, hay sanidad en la Persona de Jesucristo.
· Cuando te convertiste en cristiano, ese día, eras nuevo. Libre. El pasado ahora te da fuerzas, ya no te desconcierta más. Quién eras, qué has hecho, qué te han hecho, se quedó atrás... se lavó en el poder limpiador del Salvador... y tal como Juan dice aquí, Dios y tú... ahora habitan juntos.
· Las lágrimas brotan, Él te consuela... NO el Dr. Phil, no tu mamá, el consuelo de Dios cuando se permite, cuando se confía en Él, ¡realmente funciona! Tus días dejan de estar llenos de muerte, solo respiras hasta la muerte, y ahora entra vida y vida abundante! Tristeza, llanto, dolor por lo que has hecho y incluso quién eres... ¡SE HA IDO! Porque EL ha llegado... como el cielo, como esta escena. “He aquí”, dice Dios, “¡Yo hago nuevas todas las cosas!
· Ahora, en el Antiguo Testamento toda esta escena también nos fue dada en detalle y se nos da lo que yo creo y acepto como la razón por la cual TODO dolor desaparecerá. Quiero decir, tristeza por uno mismo, lo entiendo... Entiendo por qué eso se ha ido porque nos aferraremos a la gracia de Dios de tal manera que realmente la recibiremos con gratitud y podremos dejar de ser tan egoístas en nuestros lamentos orgullosos... y dejar que todo se vaya y estar vivo... cuando estemos con Jesús.
· Pero, ¿y mi mamá? O tu papá. ¿O su hermano o cónyuge que rechazó a Jesucristo? ¿O tu hijo? No puedo imaginar el dolor de mirar a mi alrededor la maravilla del cielo y no ver a mi hijo allí... Aquí está la respuesta a esa dificultad. Isaías 65:17, “Porque he aquí, yo creo nuevos cielos y una nueva tierra; y lo primero no será recordado ni vendrá a la mente.” Es una verdad sorprendente... que aquellos que fueron arrojados al Lago de Fuego en el Juicio del Trono Blanco, incluso su memoria fue arrojada con ellos. Horrible en cierto modo... pero ese es el grado de separación que vendrá en el Señor y en eso, no me afligiré por quién no está allí... porque no sabré...
Apocalipsis Capítulo 21 Versículo 6
· Jesús en la cruz clamó: "Consumado es", y aquí leemos algo muy similar: "Hecho Esta". La palabra que Jesús usó significa literalmente “pagó”, y la palabra que Dios usa aquí significa literalmente “pasó”. Pagado…Jesús clamó…y por eso…Dios responde…pasó. Esta es mi historia. Mi pecado lo paga Jesús. No puedo ni podría haberlo pagado yo mismo, pero Él lo hizo por mí... y por eso... todo mi pecado... ha pasado. ¡Es lo mismo contigo! ¡Camina en eso! ¿Cómo? ¡A través del arrepentimiento! ¿Por qué no puedes dejar atrás el pecado de tu pasado? ¡Creo porque todavía es parte de lo que eres! ¡Ponte agresivo! Cámbiate hasta el punto de que incluso TE convenzas de que no eres TÚ. más... entonces la culpa morirá. ¡Ese es el poder del arrepentimiento! Y déjame decirte esto, ¡el verdadero arrepentimiento siempre es agresivo!
· Otra cosa aquí... y solo sé esto porque crecí con una profesora de inglés como madre (lo sé, no siempre parece así ya que invento un montón de mis propias palabras, JA), "Consumado es”, vino antes de “Hecho está”. ¿Por qué? Terminar es la palabra que usas para una persona, hecho es la palabra que usas para una cosa. Antes de que Dios arregle la situación, te arregla a ti. Déjame decirlo de esta manera... Antes de que la situación se aborde y se arregle, eres tú quien tiene que ir primero. Esta es la forma en que Dios obra porque, en última instancia, Él está preocupado por ti, no tanto por las circunstancias. Entonces, ¿por qué no se ha arreglado? Tal vez necesites ablandarte, humillarte y permitir que Dios cambie en ti lo que necesita ser cambiado…
Apocalipsis Capítulo 21 Versículos 6 – 8
· Son los valientes los que se enfrentan a sí mismos y los que se enfrentan a la cruz. El aventurero, el valiente, el audaz... el duro y tenaz... es el fuerte, porque se necesita valor... para ser realmente honestos con nosotros mismos y ver la pura verdad, que todos estamos rotos, reventados... todos pecamos y todos necesitan un salvador... ¡y tenemos que ir por él, hombre! Y mira, Dios mismo dice aquí que son los cobardes los que nunca van allí. Que ven el camino duro, el camino de la realidad y el camino ancho, el camino de la fantasía y eligen el camino fácil…

· Y elegir el camino fácil, desfallecer... ahora mismo, hoy, esta noche, te lleva a alguna parte. ¿La segunda muerte? Pues sí, pero mira, también te lleva a la incredulidad, a una vida abominable, al asesinato, a la fornicación, a la drogadicción, a la idolatría y a la mentira... y sí, en última instancia, a la muerte segunda...
· Pero, ¿por qué ir allí, hombre, cuando el agua de vida está disponible gratuitamente para realmente saciar esa sed? Otro droga no lo hará. Otro trabajo, otro hombre, otro coche, otro otro otro, no hay otro hombre… Sólo Dios puede satisfacer lo que buscas. Y Él da libremente, amo eso de Él... Él no se hace fuera de contacto, fuera de alcance, difícil de conseguir... en absoluto...
· Dios crea de nuevo... ese es el negocio en el que Él está... No has hecho demasiado, no has ido demasiado lejos, no te has perdido a ti mismo, no has perdido el respeto por el bien... Nada de eso, Dios puede, quiere y simplemente crea de nuevo. Lo vemos aquí… Y con una apertura de tu corazón y una humillación de ti mismo, ¡Él también lo hará contigo!
