Luke 17 vs 5-19

Luke Chapter 17 Verses 5 - 6
•The apostles hear the command of Jesus on forgiveness and it is shocking to say the least! And so, they automatically go to, "We need more faith!" This is my default as well...for sure! And we see this several times in the Bible, this statement, "Lord, increase my faith!" But Jesus lets us in on something wonderfully world-changing with His response!
•His response isn't 12 steps to increase your faith. In fact, He diminishes, reduces the amount of faith they, you or I would actually need to walk in this command of God. And I absolutely love this! His response is essentially, to accomplish anything, to walk in the will of God and the ways of God and to be approved by God and blessed by God...you in fact don't need more faith at all!
•It can be, your measure of faith can be, as small and as diminutive as a mustard seed...and yet it can accomplish seemingly the impossible. You see you don't need more, what you need is LIFE in your faith! That's the secret! That's the absolute key that the world, the flesh and the enemy in every way and desperately does not want you to figure out…and if you figure it out, that three-fold enemy DOES NOT want you to walk in it!
•Let me explain so that we see this together. What makes a seed different than a pebble? They are the same size. They look the same. They weigh the same. They feel the same. But there is one critical difference. There is life in the seed. If it is planted, in the right conditions, it will grow. That seed itself is as useless as a pebble. Does nothing. But if it grows, it's unstoppable.
•Have you ever seen a sidewalk or even a foundation of a building coming up through it is a root? That ultra-strong cement just split in half, overcome and devastated by the root or the springing forth of some sort of plant. What happened? The seed is showing its strength! You see, you don't need more faith at all...what you need to do is put life in your faith.
•You know, you have seen, you understand...I mean these disciples were there with Jesus and had witnessed Him raise the dead and heal the lame and defeat the Pharisees...they had heard and received His words. They knew, they had seen and they understood...what do they need? To know more, to see more, to understand more? Not at all!! What they needed was to put eyes forward and walk.
•How do I forgive a brother that has sinned against me seven times in one day when he repents? Um, that answer is actually stupidly obvious. You forgive him. You just do it. It is the same with walking in the ways of God. Eyes forward, resolve, and do what is right in the sight of God! And the bonus of it all is that as your faith lives, it breaks down strongholds of cement in your hard heart and your mind and your life that the flesh has spent years enjoying!
•Now look, yes God empowers you by the fresh filling of His Holy Spirit as often as the day is new...but honestly, do you need that? Actually no. All you need to do is to live for the Lord and there you have it. A living faith! And then when cement cracks and mountains move and planted trees in your heart and life are uprooted, God gets the glory because it was His seed... So, after all is said and done, it's still all Him, all because of Him...but the staggering truth here is that you haven't broken through not because you don't have enough faith, but because you haven't put life into your faith!!
•Peter wrote in 2 Peter 1:2, “Grace and peace be multiplied to you (how?) in the knowledge (“epignosis,” through experience, in the doing) of God and of Jesus our Lord.” How? Verses 5-9, “Giving all diligence, (YOU) add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.” I don’t need to wait for more faith. I need to plant that seed and let life come forth!
Luke Chapter 17 Verses 7 – 10
•Key to understanding what Jesus is saying here is to understand what the servant is doing. Plowing, tending sheep, preparing food …this servant isn’t moving mountains here. Jesus just spoke to them about great works possible through a living faith and these works aren’t especially great, they are rather the regular duties of the servant.
•You’re saved. The Holy Spirit, God Himself, is within you and He leads you, teaches you, shows you, empowers you, steps you forward into all truth and reveals to you and convicts of righteousness. Jesus said these things of the Holy Spirit in John 16:13-14, “When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth… He will glorify Me.”
•That is what happens within the Christian that puts life into their faith. And so, to walk towards truth, to glorify Jesus first in my own self and then in my life towards others, the thought here (contrary to what we often tell ourselves) that is not moving mountains, that’s our duty, our reasonable response…and what God intends for us is miraculously more!
•Plowing, tending, serving…these are, for the Christian that is walking with the Lord, these things are or should be entirely natural now. Auto-pilot type activities…and the only reason we don’t do those things is because we are still falling prey to the flesh. So, when you work for the kingdom, tend to the needs of the people around you, serve those that God has given to you, before you pat yourself on the back, consider, there are mountains yet to move…
Luke Chapter 17 Verses 11 – 14
•I so love this scene! It is packed with such great messaging! These ten men were lepers and so they were outcasts, not permitted near anyone, unclean, suffering, isolated, all that…and they do the one thing needed to be made well. They call out to Jesus! Now the wild part of this scene is what Jesus says! Essentially, He says, “Get away from Me!” HA! See that?! First word from Him is GO!
•Ok, not in the sense of “Get away from Me, I don’t want you near Me and I’m not going to help…,” but in the sense of “activate, get involved, relate and work with Me!” So often the issue isn’t resolved or we aren’t healed simply because we aren’t willing to do our part! “Go change their heart!” Well, treat them differently! “God show him that I love him!” YOU show him! “God help me with this test!” You study! HA! You get the point! They come to Jesus for healing, His response, as it so often is with us, “Go!” (Notice – That’s also different than the last leper he cleansed)
•Now, telling them to go and show themselves to the priest is preposterous. They were unclean and not allowed in the city or the temple! Leviticus 14 says that the priest would have to take them outside of the city to treat them…and most likely, they had already tried that. So many reasons…that what Jesus asks them to do is not so easy…
•But notice, the one condition for their healing, the SINGLE condition upon which they would be completely healed of this tragic and terrible condition, was obedience! That’s it! Isn’t that the way it is with you too? With your relationship with him, your relationship with her, that issue you are facing today that you’ve so often asked God to deliver you from…?
•And finally, notice, if they went and did this, going through the city, into the “clean” crowds and to the priest at the Temple, notice, they would have to believe as they go. And not believe that they would be healed, but they’d have to go to the extreme, move mountains…they’d have to believe they were already healed even as they went! What do I mean…they would have to obey and trust and go not as they were but as they would be according to their faith and the word of God…or they wouldn’t make it. Huge lesson there for you and for me!
•So often I am like, “Heal me or heal this and I’ll go…I’ll do my part then…,” but that’s not what God is trying to do in me…He is doing a greater work. The healing is in the going!
Luke Chapter 17 Verses 15 – 19
•Notice, all ten willing to obey…essentially all ten willing to move mountains…but only one is grateful. This is shocking… But it’s SUCH a wake-up call! Why, because notice, ten obey, ten move mountains, but only one is grateful and therefore only one glorifies the Lord. Do you see that? This is intensely clear here and in other places in the Bible. Having an ungrateful heart is a guarantee that you are not growing in your faith (or even worse, you just are in danger of completely missing…like…everything!).
•Romans 1:18-22, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them…but, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools.” Courson said it this way, “You’re either a grateful person or you are an awful person.” WOW!
•And because of his grateful heart, something else here happens… Jesus says to Him, “Because of your grateful heart, your glorifying of God, you are made well.” Wait a minute, verse 15, he was already healed… The implication here is that this one man out of ten, in deciding to have gratitude in his heart, was not only healed outwardly but also healed inwardly.
•What good is it if a man is healed outwardly and yet not healed inwardly? The alcoholic, why does he drink? Because he is not healed inwardly. The unfaithful spouse, why do they cheat? Because he/she is not healed inwardly. The crass, the angry, the depressed, the harsh…why? All the same. We put such emphasis on behavior modification…oh if he would just stop drinking…but without healing in the heart, the bottle will just turn into the needle or something else…
•Seek first the Kingdom of God… I guarantee you, there is healing waiting for you on the other side of you giving up pride and living grateful to God and others in your life… Who are you with? The nine or the one? You’ll know by if you are putting life into your faith or not… You’ll know if mountains are moving… You’ll know if you are confident in this confession…, “My life glorifies God.”



Lucas Capítulo 17 Versículos 5 - 6
• ¡Los apóstoles escuchan el mandato de Jesús sobre el perdón y es impactante por decir lo menos! Y así, automáticamente van a "¡Necesitamos más fe!" Este es mi valor predeterminado también... ¡seguro! Y vemos esto varias veces en la Biblia, esta declaración: "¡Señor, auméntame la fe!" ¡Pero Jesús nos deja entrar en algo maravillosamente que cambiará el mundo con Su respuesta!
• Su respuesta no son 12 pasos para aumentar tu fe. De hecho, Él disminuye, reduce la cantidad de fe que ellos, usted o yo necesitamos para caminar en este mandato de Dios. ¡Y me encanta esto! Su respuesta es esencialmente, lograr cualquier cosa, caminar en la voluntad de Dios y los caminos de Dios y ser aprobado por Dios y bendecido por Dios... ¡de hecho, no necesitas más fe en absoluto!
• Puede ser, tu medida de fe puede ser, tan pequeña y diminuta como una semilla de mostaza... y sin embargo puede lograr lo aparentemente imposible. ¡Ya ves que no necesitas más, lo que necesitas es VIDA en tu fe! ¡Ese es el secreto! Esa es la clave absoluta que el mundo, la carne y el enemigo en todos los sentidos y desesperadamente no quiere que descubras... y si lo descubres, ¡ese triple enemigo NO quiere que camines en él!
• Déjame explicarte para que veamos esto juntos. ¿Qué diferencia a una semilla de una piedrita de rio? Son del mismo tamaño. Se ven iguales. Pesan lo mismo. Sienten lo mismo. Pero hay una diferencia crítica. Hay vida en la semilla. Si se planta, en las condiciones adecuadas, crecerá. Esa semilla en sí misma es tan inútil como una piedrita de rio. No hace nada. Pero si crece, es imparable.
• ¿Alguna vez has visto una acera o incluso los cimientos de un edificio que se eleva a través de ella como una raíz? Ese cemento ultra fuerte acaba de partirse por la mitad, vencido y arrasado por la raíz o el brotar de alguna especie de planta. ¿Qué sucedió? ¡La semilla está mostrando su fuerza!
Ves, no necesitas más fe en absoluto... lo que necesitas hacer es poner vida en tu fe.
• Sabes, has visto, entiendes... Quiero decir que estos discípulos estaban allí con Jesús y lo habían visto resucitar a los muertos y sanar a los cojos y derrotar a los fariseos... habían oído y recibido Sus palabras. Sabían, habían visto y
comprendido... ¿qué necesitan? ¿Saber más, ver más, comprender más? ¡¡Para nada!! Lo que necesitaban era poner los ojos al frente y caminar.
• ¿Cómo perdono a un hermano que ha pecado contra mí siete veces en un día cuando se arrepiente? Um, esa respuesta es en realidad estúpidamente obvia. Lo perdonas. Solo hazlo. Es lo mismo con andar en los caminos de Dios. ¡Mira hacia adelante, resuelve y haz lo correcto a los ojos de Dios! ¡Y la ventaja de todo esto es que mientras tu fe vive, derriba las fortalezas de cemento en tu corazón duro y tu mente y tu vida que la carne ha pasado años disfrutando!
• Ahora mire, sí, Dios lo empodera con la llenura fresca de Su Espíritu Santo tan a menudo como el día es nuevo... pero honestamente, ¿necesita eso? En realidad, no. Todo lo que necesitas hacer es vivir para el Señor y ahí lo tienes. ¡Una fe viva! Y luego, cuando el cemento se agrieta y las montañas se mueven y plantan árboles en tu corazón y la vida es arrancada, Dios recibe la gloria porque era Su semilla... Así que, después de todo lo dicho y hecho, sigue siendo todo Él, todo gracias a Él. ..pero la asombrosa verdad aquí es que no has logrado abrirte paso no porque no tengas suficiente fe, sino porque no has puesto vida en tu fe!!
• Pedro escribió en 2 Pedro 1:2: “Gracia y paz os sean multiplicadas (¿cómo?) en el conocimiento (“epignosis”, por experiencia, en el hacer) de Dios y de Jesús nuestro Señor”. ¿Cómo? Versículos 5-9, “Poniendo toda diligencia, (USTED) añada a su fe virtud, a la virtud conocimiento, al conocimiento dominio propio, al dominio propio perseverancia, a la perseverancia piedad, a la piedad afecto fraternal, y al afecto fraternal amor. Porque si estas cosas son vuestras y abundan, no seréis estériles ni sin fruto en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Porque el que carece de estas cosas es corto de vista, hasta la ceguera, y ha olvidado que fue limpio de sus antiguos pecados.” No necesito esperar por más fe. ¡Necesito plantar esa semilla y dejar que la vida brote!
Lucas Capítulo 17 Versículos 7 – 10
· La clave para entender lo que Jesús está diciendo aquí es entender lo que está haciendo el siervo. Arar, cuidar ovejas, preparar la comida… este sirviente no está moviendo montañas aquí. Jesús acaba de hablarles de las grandes obras posibles a través de una fe viva y estas obras no son especialmente grandes, son más bien los deberes regulares del siervo.
· Eres salvo. El Espíritu Santo, Dios mismo, está dentro de ti y te guía, te enseña, te muestra, te empodera, te da un paso adelante hacia toda la verdad y te revela y convence de justicia. Jesús dijo estas cosas del Espíritu Santo en Juan 16:13-14: “Cuando venga el Espíritu de verdad, él os guiará a toda la verdad… Él me glorificará”.
· Eso es lo que sucede dentro del cristiano que pone vida en su fe. Y así, caminar hacia la verdad, glorificar a Jesús primero en mí mismo y luego en mi vida hacia los demás, el pensamiento aquí (al contrario de lo que a menudo nos decimos) que no es mover montañas, ese es nuestro deber, nuestra respuesta razonable... ¡y lo que Dios quiere para nosotros es milagrosamente más!
· Arar, cuidar, servir… son, para el cristiano que está caminando con el Señor, estas cosas son o deberían ser totalmente naturales ahora. Actividades de tipo piloto automático... y la única razón por la que no hacemos esas cosas es porque todavía estamos siendo presa de la carne. Así que, cuando trabajes por el reino, atiende las necesidades de las personas que te rodean, sirve a los que Dios te ha dado, antes de darte palmaditas en la espalda, considera, todavía hay montañas por mover…
Lucas Capítulo 17 Versículos 11 – 14
· ¡Me encanta esta escena! ¡Está repleto de mensajes geniales! Estos diez hombres eran leprosos y, por lo tanto, eran marginados, no se les permitía acercarse a nadie, eran inmundos, sufrían, estaban aislados, todo eso... y hacían lo único que necesitaban para estar bien. ¡Llaman a Jesús! ¡Ahora la parte salvaje de esta escena es lo que dice Jesús! Esencialmente, Él dice: “¡Aléjate de mí!” ¡JA! ¡¿Miras eso?! La primera palabra de Él es ¡VAYAN!
· Bueno, no en el sentido de “Aléjate de Mí, no te quiero cerca de Mí y no te voy a ayudar…”, sino en el sentido de “¡actívate, involúcrate, relaciónate y trabaja Conmigo! ” ¡Muy a menudo el problema no se resuelve o no somos sanados simplemente porque no estamos dispuestos a hacer nuestra parte! "¡Ve a cambiar su corazón!" Bueno, ¡trátalos de manera diferente! “¡Dios, muéstrale que lo amo!” ¡Tú le muestras! “¡Dios ayúdame con esta prueba!” ¡Estudia! ¡JA! ¡Tú entiendes! Vienen a Jesús en busca de sanidad, Su respuesta, como tan a menudo es con nosotros, "¡Ve!" (Nota: eso también es diferente al último leproso que limpió)
· Ahora, decirles que vayan y se presenten al sacerdote es absurdo. ¡Estaban impuros y no se les permitía entrar en la ciudad ni en el templo! Levítico 14 dice que el sacerdote tendría que llevarlos fuera de la ciudad para tratarlos… y lo más probable es que ya lo habían intentado. Tantas razones… que lo que Jesús les pide que hagan no es tan fácil…
· Pero fíjate, la única condición para su sanidad, la ÚNICA condición sobre la cual serían completamente sanados de esta trágica y terrible condición, ¡era la obediencia! ¡Eso es! ¿No es así contigo también? ¿Con tu relación con él, tu relación con ella, ese problema que enfrentas hoy y del que tantas veces le has pedido a Dios que te libere…?
· Y finalmente, fíjense, si fueran e hicieran esto, pasando por la ciudad, hacia las multitudes “limpias” y al sacerdote en el Templo, fíjense, tendrían que creer a medida que avanzan. Y no creer que serían sanados, pero tendrían que ir al extremo, mover montañas… ¡tendrían que creer que ya estaban sanados mientras avanzaban! Qué quiero decir… tendrían que obedecer y confiar e ir no como eran sino como serían de acuerdo a su fe y la palabra de Dios… o no lo lograrían. ¡Enorme lección para ti y para mí!
· Muy a menudo estoy como, "Sáname o sana esto y me iré... entonces haré mi parte...", pero eso no es lo que Dios está tratando de hacer en mí... Él está haciendo una obra mayor. ¡La curación está en marcha!
Lucas Capítulo 17 Versículos 15 – 19
· Note, los diez dispuestos a obedecer...esencialmente los diez dispuestos a mover montañas...pero solo uno está agradecido. Esto es impactante... ¡Pero es una GRAN llamada de atención! Pues, porque fíjate, diez obedecen, diez mueven montañas, pero solo uno agradece y por lo tanto solo uno glorifica al Señor. ¿Ves eso? Esto es intensamente claro aquí y en otros lugares de la Biblia. Tener un corazón desagradecido es garantía de que no estás creciendo en tu fe (o peor aún, estás en peligro de perderte por completo… todo!).
· Romanos 1:18-22, “Porque la ira de Dios se revela desde el cielo contra toda impiedad e injusticia de los hombres que detienen con injusticia la verdad; porque lo que de Dios se conoce les es manifiesto, pues Dios se lo ha manifestado. a ellos… pero, habiendo conocido a Dios, no le glorificaron como Dios, ni le dieron gracias, sino que se envanecieron en sus pensamientos, y su necio corazón fue entenebrecido. Profesando ser sabios, se hicieron necios”. Courson lo dijo de esta manera: "O eres una persona agradecida o eres una persona horrible". ¡WAU!
· Y por su corazón agradecido, aquí sucede otra cosa… Jesús le dice: “Por tu corazón agradecido, por tu glorificación de Dios, has sido sanado”. Un momento, versículo 15, él ya fue sanado… La implicación aquí es que este hombre de cada diez, en decidiendo tener gratitud en su corazón, no sólo fue sanado exteriormente sino también sanado interiormente.
· ¿De qué sirve si un hombre es sanado por fuera y sin embargo no está sanado por dentro? El alcohólico, ¿por qué bebe? Porque no está curado interiormente. El cónyuge infiel, ¿por qué engaña? Porque no está curado interiormente. El grosero, el enojado, el deprimido, el duro... ¿por qué? Todos iguales. Ponemos tanto énfasis en la modificación del comportamiento... oh, si él simplemente dejara de beber... pero sin la curación en el corazón, la botella simplemente se convertirá en una aguja o algo más...
· Busca primero el Reino de Dios… Te garantizo que hay sanidad esperándote al otro lado de ti, renunciando al orgullo y viviendo agradecido con Dios y los demás en tu vida… ¿Con quién estás? ¿Con los nueve o el uno que regreso a dar gloria a Dios? Sabrás si estás poniendo vida en tu fe o no… Sabrás si las montañas se mueven… Sabrás si tienes confianza en esta confesión… “Mi vida glorifica a Dios”! …?
