Revelation 1 vs 4-9

Revelation Chapter 1 Verses 4-5
•The “Asia” in Biblical literature is modern day Western Turkey. It's interesting here that John writes to the “seven” churches. There were far more than seven at this time but these seven represent the church as a whole and as we will see, the church through the ages. Seven is the number of completion. So, it speaks not just to a subset of churches there in Asia during John’s time but to the whole church, the complete church. And we’ll see that unfold as we dive deeper into the text.
•And recall our conversation last week about the current state of the church during John’s time. The church had come under intense persecution and it was Domitian that was in power there in the Roman Empire and just like his predecessor, Caesar Nero, he was brutal.
•History tells us that he would light his walkways and gardens with the burning bodies of Christians shrieking “you are the light of the world.” And he would have Christians stripped naked and covered in lamb skins and sheep’s wool and made a public spectacle as the Romans proclaimed “you’re the flock of Jesus!” Before feeding them to hungry beasts…lions and such. Horrific times. Times of mocking, times of murder.
•Now John is a pastor, a church planter, a spiritual father. He knows what his churches are facing. What they’re up against, what they’re going through. What he himself knows personally as even now he is in exile.
•And so, his kind exhortation, “grace and peace.” Grace “charis” was the greeting of the Greeks…peace “shalom” was the greeting of the Jews. And notice John puts them together…why? Because they are always linked. Where grace goes, peace goes. They are always linked in the Bible and they are always linked in life.
•Grace always first. Grace, the unmerited, undeserved, unearned favor, affection and love of God. You can’t merit it or earn it… you don’t deserve it…its simply the love of God applied. Now the degree that I understand grace is the degree that I will know peace and in the forsaking of grace, in the missing of grace…you also completely whiff peace (you miss it)!
•Grace always comes first. The church going through these times, you and I living in our time…they and we can have peace…if we would receive and live in God’s grace. Grace, the truth that God is there and He is going to see me through, He’s going to cover me completely…not because I am such a success, and not because I have it all together because I don’t, not because I am a righteous guy…I fail constantly…but because of His grace. And receiving that…that’s why I have peace. Because my faith is not in me…it’s in Jesus Christ and His finished work upon the cross of Calvary.
•We strive and we struggle to hold it all together and what happens is that we begin to be sin accountants, watching and weighing and numbering our sins hoping to be able to hold up a sign to God and to the world that says “I’m good enough” and man that is such a tragic habit! And look, we not only bring that upon ourselves, we impose it upon others! But grace man…God’s wonderful, complete grace says “I’m going to bless you and take care of you not because of your faithfulness but because I love you…I am good and I am faithful and I will do what I have promised.”
•And notice this grace is not from us, its not from the world, its not from “making it” ya know the American Dream and such…this grace and this peace is from the One who was and who is and who is to come. I love this description of God because God transcends time. He lives in the eternal now. He is above time. He sees and has seen it all already. He’s not wondering what will happen next and “oh my what if that happens,” …He already knows how the story goes, He already sees…and He is at perfect peace so we can be also if we again, would draw near to His grace and place our trust in His faithful promises. Get a grasp on grace and peace will flourish.
•Recognize this grace and peace also extends from the seven Spirits who are before His throne. Now this isn’t some sort of team of Holy Spirits but rather this is a sevenfold characterization of the one Holy Spirit. A revelation of the character of God. (Menorah in the temple) Look at Isaiah Chapter 11 verse 2. These seven aspects of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Lord which rests upon, the Spirit of wisdom, the Spirit of understanding, the Spirit of counsel, the Spirit of might, the Spirit of knowledge and the Spirit of the fear or awe or obedience or submission of and to the Lord. The characteristics of the Holy Spirit, and He who indwells every Christian…
•And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness. Jesus is the complete showing/unveiling of God…the utter revelation of the One who is holy and absolutely other. Just like the little girl who was drawing one day and her father walks up and says “Honey, what are you drawing there?” And she without stopping says “I’m drawing God, daddy.” And then her father says with a smile and a bit of a chuckle “Honey, no one knows what God looks like.” And so, she slams down her crayon and looks up at him and says, “Well they will in a minute!” HA! As she draws out what God looks like, what He is like…that is what Jesus did for us…The faithful witness to the very nature and character of the Father.
•And when you read your Bible from cover to cover…everything must be filtered through the Person of Jesus Christ! His works, His words…the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory full of grace! And here John, this guy that knew Jesus intimately, personally says here that He is the faithful witness and the first born from the dead.
•There’s none like Him. None above Him. None greater than Him! And no matter what Domitian is doing, no matter what our government is doing, no matter what some ruler is planning, Jesus is the ruler over the kings of the earth.
•He is in charge ultimately and even though sinful situations will cause searing pain now, all of our tears will one day be wiped by the hands that bear the scars of our redemption! But for now, He has (look) not ordained us to suffer…He has SENT us to recover! Each Christian, a light in the darkness, a beacon of home for the lost…washed from our own uncleanness, freed from the weight of sin, enabled and renewed with His mission, His statues, written on our fresh out of the box heart of flesh…embossed with His love secured for us at the cross and through His own shedding of perfect human blood.
Revelation Chapter 1 Verse 6
•How is it that you and I are kings and priests to God Himself? He knows everything about me! I’m more like a criminal and peasant…ha! True…but…grace. Jesus loved us, washed us from our weakness and has made us kings and priests…not to the mirror, not to wall street, not to the world…look! To Him! He is the reason we are right with the Father. And so, to Him be all the glory!
•We so get locked into the lie that we have to live up to what people expect. We have to please them and perform for them…thats not faith, that’s pride and man that is exactly what the enemy wants you to think, feel, live out. We need to wake up to the fact that you are serving the father of lies himself when you bow down at the alter of self image rather than at the altar of the Most High! To Him be the glory. Not to me. Not to them. Not to you.
•The odd thing is that is a hard truth. A hard truth like the sky diver who discovers his parachute isn’t going to open but he has the rest of his life to figure it out! HA! Something in me wants to earn it, wants to be good enough, but that kind of approach to God will actually drive you further from Him…
•And herein is a further revelation of Jesus Christ as John writes inspired by the Holy Spirit, “To His God and Father,” showing both the humanity and the divinity of Jesus Christ…

Revelation Chapter 1 Verse 7
•The world will cry out when they seen Him come…notice, not at the rapture. This is the second coming, the second advent…after the tribulation period, after the time described in 1 Thessalonians 4 when WE are called UP into the clouds…you see a different time, a separate event from Jesus coming back to earth WITH the clouds meaning with heaven in tow (Hebrews 1)…you and I returning with Him as Jude writes “the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of His holy ones.”
•The tribulation period is not for us…His wrath is not for those who are washed clean and made righteous in His blood. You see Jesus, our sin taken upon Him, has already experienced, has already satisfied the wrath of God against us and therefore we have justification and sanctification to the extent that the Lord tells us in Romans 5:9 that “we shall be saved, removed/out of, from the wrath through Him” And 1 Thes 1:10 we read that “Jesus delivers us from (or out of) the wrath to come!” Not delivers us IN but delivers us from! And not present wrath but future wrath! So, we are not delivered in wrath during the tribulation but delivered from wrath before it begins. Zephaniah 2:3 God declares “choose Me so that you may be hidden (absented) in the Day of the Lord.” Jeremiah 3:12 states, “I will not cause My anger to fall upon you.”
•And after the church age, chapters 2 and 3 of the Book of Revelation, during the judgment period where the vials of God’s wrath are being poured upon the earth, Revelation 16:7 records for us voices coming from the alter of God saying, “Holy and righteous are your judgments oh Lord!” Why? Because those that have been washed clean by the blood of the Savior are not there to absorb additional wrath. Unfounded wrath…unjust punishment…no, the judgment is holy and righteous!
•And so, this event, the second coming when Jesus returns…us with Him to rule and to reign…every eye will see Him (not possible until recent years with technology), even the Jews…all of the peoples of the earth and look they will mourn. Would the church mourn? No! We would hoot and holler! But the tribes of the earth at this time…not the church, they wail!

Revelation Chapter 1 Verse 8
•I want to show you something. Who is this Alpha and Omega? The First and the Last? The Almighty! Well, the cults say “Obviously, it’s God the Father!” Ok I agree with that.
•Now, turn to Revelation 21. Look at verse 6. “And He said unto me. It is finished…I am Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.” Who is that? I agree. It’s Jesus but still they would say no. Well turn to Revelation 22 verses 12-20. Verse 12 says, “Behold I am coming quickly…” Who is that? Well look at verse 20. Irrefutably this is as it says here in verse 20, Lord Jesus! And now look back at verse 13. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
•So JWs, Mr. Mormon, you have a problem. If the Alpha and the Omega in Revelation 1 is God the Father and the Alpha and the Omega in Revelation 22 is Jesus Christ then you have two Almighties. You have two Alphas and Omegas OR you have a mystery, that Jesus…the Lord Jesus and God the Father are One! And if they are One then indeed the premise, the pillar, the position of your profession is bankrupt and you are lost. You see this is Jesus Christ speaking here. The same that was speaking in the Old Testament, the second Person of a mysterious and completely Other Triune God!

Chapter 1 Verse 9
•John says I am on Patmos for the word! I’m here so that I may hear from God without distraction! That’s why! That’s the point! Listen, as a believer, as Christians, things do not happen to us they happen FOR us! This life is difficult and many things are out of our control, but God has promised that He is not on break and that one day, whether in this life or the next, we will sit with Him and wonder no more…but only be filled with worship, understanding and even gratitude at how He sovereignly and in His grace walked us through this mortal life…


Apocalipsis Capítulo 1 Versículos 4-5

· La "Asia" en la literatura bíblica es la actual Turquía occidental. Es interesante aquí que Juan le escribe a las “siete” iglesias. Había mucho más de siete en ese momento, pero estas siete representan a la iglesia como un todo y, como veremos, a la iglesia a través de las edades. Siete es el número de finalización. Entonces, habla no solo a un subconjunto de iglesias allí en Asia durante el tiempo de Juan, sino a toda la iglesia, la iglesia completa. Y lo veremos desarrollarse a medida que profundicemos en el texto.

· Y recuerde nuestra conversación la semana pasada sobre el estado actual de la iglesia durante la época de John. La iglesia había sido objeto de una intensa persecución y Domiciano estaba en el poder allí en el Imperio Romano y, al igual que su predecesor, César Nerón, era brutal.

· La historia nos dice que él iluminaba sus senderos y jardines con los cuerpos ardiendo de cristianos gritando “ustedes son la luz del mundo”. Y desnudaban a los cristianos y los cubrian con pieles de cordero y lana de oveja e hicieran un espectáculo público mientras los romanos proclamaban "¡ustedes son el rebaño de Jesús!" Antes de darles de comer a las bestias hambrientas ... leones y demás. Tiempos horribles. Tiempos de burla, tiempos de asesinato.

· Ahora Juan es pastor, plantador de iglesias, padre espiritual. Él sabe a lo que se enfrentan sus iglesias. A qué se enfrentan, y que están pasando. Lo que él mismo conoce personalmente ya que incluso ahora está en el exilio.

· Y así, su amable exhortación, “gracia y paz”. Gracia “charis” fue el saludo de los griegos… paz “shalom” fue el saludo de los judíos. Y note que Juan los junta… ¿por qué? Porque siempre están vinculados. Donde va la gracia, va la paz. Siempre están vinculados en la Biblia y siempre están vinculados en la vida.

· Gracia siempre primero. Gracia, el favor inmerecido, sin merecerlo, sin habértelo ganado, el afecto y el amor de Dios. No puedes merecerlo o ganártelo ... no te lo mereces ... es simplemente el amor de Dios aplicado. Ahora el grado en que entiendo la gracia es el grado en que conoceré la paz y en el abandono de la gracia, en la falta de la gracia ... tú también hueles completamente la paz (la extrañas).

· La gracia siempre es lo primero. La iglesia atravesando estos tiempos, tú y yo viviendo en nuestro tiempo ... ellos y nosotros podemos tener paz ... si recibiéramos y viviéramos en la gracia de Dios. Gracia, la verdad de que Dios está ahí y Él va a ayudarme, Él me cubrirá por completo ... no porque tenga yo exito , y no porque lo tenga todo me salga bien o todo tenga bien porque no lo tengo, ni tampoco lo soy un hombre justo… fallo constantemente… pero por Su gracia. Y recibir eso ... es por eso que tengo paz. Porque mi fe no está en mí ... está en Jesucristo y Su obra terminada en la cruz del Calvario.

· Nos esforzamos y luchamos por mantenerlo todo bien unido y junto, y lo que sucede es que comenzamos a ser contadores de pecados, observando, sopesando y contando nuestros pecados con la esperanza de poder levantar una señal a Dios y al mundo que dice "Yo" soy suficientemente bueno ”y hombre, ¡ese es un hábito tan trágico! Y miren, no solo nos lo traemos a nosotros mismos, ¡lo imponemos a los demás! Pero, hombre de la gracia ... la maravillosa y completa gracia de Dios dice: “Voy a bendecirte y cuidar de ti no por tu fidelidad sino porque te amo ... Soy bueno y soy fiel y haré lo que he prometido. "

· Y noten que esta gracia no es de nosotros, no es del mundo, no es de “hacerlo”, ustedes ya saben, el Sueño Americano y todo eso… esta gracia y esta paz son de Aquel que Fue y qué Es y que Vendrá . Amo esta descripción de Dios porque Dios trasciende el tiempo. Vive en lo eterno ahora. Está por encima del tiempo. Lo ve y ya lo ha visto todo. No se pregunta qué pasará después y "oh, ¿qué pasaría si eso pasa?" ... Él ya sabe cómo va la historia, Él ya ve ... y Él está en perfecta paz, así que también podemos estarlo si nuevamente nos acercáramos a Su gracia y depositar nuestra confianza en sus fieles promesas. Aprende la gracia y la paz florecerá.

· Reconoce que esta gracia y paz también se extiende desde los siete Espíritus que están ante Su trono. Ahora bien, esto no es una especie de equipo de Espíritus Santos, sino que es una caracterización séptuple del único Espíritu Santo. Una revelación del carácter de Dios. (Menorah en el templo) Mire Isaías Capítulo 11 versículo 2. Estos siete aspectos del Espíritu Santo, el Espíritu del Señor sobre el cual descansa, el Espíritu de sabiduría, el Espíritu de entendimiento, el Espíritu de consejo, el Espíritu de poder, el Espíritu de conocimiento y el Espíritu de temor o sobrecogimiento u obediencia o sumisión de y al Señor. Las características del Espíritu Santo y Aquel que habita en cada cristiano ...

· Y de Jesucristo, El testigo fiel. Jesús es la manifestación / revelación completa de Dios ... la revelación total de Aquel que es santo y absolutamente otro. Al igual que la niña que estaba dibujando un día y su padre se acerca y dice "Cariño, ¿qué estás dibujando allí?" Y ella sin parar dice "Estoy dibujando a Dios, papi". Y luego su padre dice con una sonrisa y un poco de risa: "Cariño, nadie sabe cómo es Dios". Y entonces, ella baja su crayón y lo mira y dice: "¡Bueno, lo sabrán en un minuto!" A medida que ella muestra cómo es Dios, cómo es ... eso es lo que Jesús hizo por nosotros ... El testimonio fiel de la naturaleza y el carácter del Padre.

· Y cuando lees tu Biblia de cabo a rabo… ¡todo debe ser filtrado a través de la Persona de Jesucristo! Sus obras, sus palabras ... ¡el Verbo se hizo carne y habitó entre nosotros y vimos su gloria llena de gracia! Y aquí Juan, este hombre que conoció a Jesús íntimamente, dice personalmente aquí que Él es el testigo fiel y el primogénito de entre los muertos.

· No hay nadie como El. Ninguno por encima de El. ¡Nadie más grande que Él! Y no importa lo que esté haciendo Domiciano, no importa lo que esté haciendo nuestro gobierno, no importa lo que esté planeando algún gobernante, Jesús es el gobernante de los reyes de la tierra.

· Él está a cargo en última instancia y aunque las situaciones pecaminosas causarán un dolor punzante ahora, ¡todas nuestras lágrimas algún día serán limpiadas por las manos que llevan las cicatrices de nuestra redención! Pero por ahora, Él (mira) no nos ha ordenado sufrir… ¡Nos ha ENVIADO a recuperarnos! Cada cristiano, una luz en la oscuridad, un faro de hogar para los perdidos ... lavados de nuestra propia inmundicia, liberados del peso del pecado, capacitados y renovados con Su misión, Sus mandamientos escritos en nuestro corazón, estamos recién salidos de la caja de nuestra carne… grabados en el corazón con Su amor asegurado para nosotros en la cruz y mediante Su propio derramamiento de sangre humana perfecta.

Apocalipsis Capítulo 1 Versículo 6

· ¿Cómo es que tú y yo somos reyes y sacerdotes para Dios mismo? ¡Él sabe todo sobre mí! Soy solo un criminal y un campesino ... ¡ja! Cierto ... pero ...Su gracia. Jesús nos amó, nos lavó de nuestra debilidad y nos ha hecho reyes y sacerdotes… no al espejo, no para murales, no al mundo… ¡Mira! ¡Para Él y por El! Él es la razón por la que estamos bien con el Padre. ¡Y así, a Él sea toda la gloria!

· Estamos tan atrapados en la mentira que tenemos que estar a la altura de lo que la gente espera. Tenemos que complacerlos y actuar para ellos ... eso no es fe, eso es orgullo y hombre, eso es exactamente lo que el enemigo quiere que pienses, sientas y vivas. ¡Necesitamos despertar al hecho de que estás sirviendo al padre de la mentira cuando te inclinas ante el altar de la imagen de ti mismo en lugar de ante el altar del Altísimo! A él sea la gloria. No para mí. No a ellos. A ti no.

· Lo curioso es que es una dura verdad. Una dura verdad como la del paracaidista que descubre que su paracaídas no se abre, ¡pero tiene el resto de su vida para resolverlo! Algo en mí quiere tener que ganarlo, quiere ser lo suficientemente bueno, pero ese tipo de acercamiento a Dios en realidad te alejará más de Él ...

· Y aquí hay una revelación adicional de Jesucristo como Juan escribe inspirado por el Espíritu Santo, "A su Dios y Padre", mostrando tanto la humanidad como la divinidad de Jesucristo ...

Apocalipsis Capítulo 1 Versículo 7

· El mundo clamará cuando lo vean venir… fíjense, no en el rapto. Esta es la segunda venida, la segunda venida ... después del período de la tribulación, después del tiempo descrito en 1 Tesalonicenses 4 cuando NOSOTROS somos llamados a las nubes ... ves un tiempo diferente, un evento separado del regreso de Jesús a la tierra CON las nubes es decir, con el cielo a cuestas (Hebreos 1) ... tú y yo regresamos con Él como Judas escribe: "El Señor viene con miles y miles de Sus santos".

· El período de tribulación no es para nosotros… Su ira no es para aquellos que son lavados y hechos justos en Su sangre. Ves a Jesús, nuestro pecado cargado sobre Él, ya ha experimentado, ya satisfazio la ira de Dios contra nosotros y por lo tanto tenemos justificación y
santificación en la medida en que el Señor nos dice en Romanos 5: 9 que “seremos salvos, removidos / fuera de la ira por Él”. Y en 1 Ts 1:10 leemos que “Jesús nos libra de (o de ) ¡la ira venidera! " ¡No nos entrega “A”, sino que nos libera de! ¡Y no la ira presente, sino la ira futura! Entonces, no somos liberados de la ira durante la tribulación, sino liberados de la ira antes de que comience. Sofonías 2: 3 Dios declara "escogeme a Mi para que estés escondido (ausente) en el Día del Señor". Jeremías 3:12 dice: "No haré que Mi ira caiga sobre ustedes".

· Y después de la era de la iglesia, los capítulos 2 y 3 del Libro de Apocalipsis, durante el período del juicio donde las copas de la ira de Dios están siendo derramadas sobre la tierra, Apocalipsis
16: 7 nos registra voces provenientes del altar de Dios que dicen: "¡Santos y justos son tus juicios, oh Señor!" ¿Por qué? Porque aquellos que han sido lavados por la sangre del Salvador no están allí para absorber ira adicional. Ira infundada ... castigo injusto ... no, ¡el juicio es santo y justo!

· Y así, este evento, la segunda venida cuando Jesús regrese ... nosotros con Él para gobernar y reinar ... todos los ojos lo verán (lo cual no era posible hasta estos últimos años con la tecnología), incluso los judíos ... todos los pueblos de la tierra y mira ellos llorarán. ¿Lloraría la iglesia? ¡No! ¡Gritamos y gritamos! Pero las tribus de la tierra en este momento… ¡no la iglesia, la Iglesia se lamenta!

Apocalipsis Capítulo 1 Versículo 8

· Quiero mostrarte algo. ¿Quién es este Alfa y Omega? ¿El primero y el último? ¡El Todopoderoso! Bueno, los cultos dicen "¡Obviamente, es Dios el Padre!" Ok, estoy de acuerdo con eso.

· Ahora, vaya a Apocalipsis 21. Observe el versículo 6. “Y me dijo. Consumado es… Soy Alfa y Omega el principio y el fin. Daré de la fuente del agua de la vida gratuitamente al que tenga sed ”. ¿Quién es ese? Estoy de acuerdo. Es Jesús, pero aún así dirían que no. Ahora bien, vaya a Apocalipsis 22 versículos 12-20. El versículo 12 dice: “He aquí, vengo pronto…” ¿Quién es ese? Pues bien, miren el versículo 20. Irrefutablemente, esto es lo que dice aquí en el versículo 20: ¡Señor Jesús! Y ahora miren regresando al versículo 13.
"Yo soy el Alfa y la Omega, el Principio y el Fin, el Primero y el Último".

· Entonces, Testigos de Jehová, Sr. Mormón, tienen un problema. Si el Alfa y la Omega en Apocalipsis 1 es Dios el Padre y el Alfa y la Omega en Apocalipsis 22 es Jesucristo, entonces tienes dos todopoderosos. Tienes dos Alfas y Omegas O tienes un misterio, que Jesús… ¡El Señor Jesús y Dios el Padre son Uno! Y si son Uno, entonces la premisa, el pilar, la posición de tu profesión está en bancarrota y estás perdido. Ves, este es Jesucristo hablando aquí. ¡Lo mismo que estaba hablando en el Antiguo Testamento, la segunda Persona de un Dios trino misterioso y completamente Otro!

Capítulo 1 Versículo 9

· ¡John dice estoy en Patmos por la palabra! ¡Estoy aquí para escuchar a Dios sin distracciones! ¡Es por eso! ¡Ese es el punto! Escuche, como creyente, como cristianos, ¡las cosas no solo nos pasan, pasan por nosotros, a favor de nosotros. Esta vida es difícil y muchas cosas están fuera de nuestro control, pero Dios ha prometido que Él no está en receso y que un día, ya sea en esta vida o en la siguiente, nos sentaremos con Él y no nos preguntaremos más ... pero solo seremos llenos de El, En adoración, comprensión e incluso gratitud por cómo Él soberanamente y en Su gracia nos acompañó a través de esta vida terrenal ...
