2 Corinthians 7 vs 1-16

2 Corinthians Chapter 7 Verse 1
•What “promises?” Well before we even go into that, why is it that God would make any promises to me in the first place? He owes me nothing! The only reason we even have promises from God to us (and we have a lot – hold for one moment), the only reason God promises us anything is because He loves us. The answer is not because God is good…He could be good all day long and make no promises to me…but He has made thousands of promises to you, to strengthen you, to prepare you, to lead you to still waters, to guide you… Biblegateway.com reports that the Bible contains 5,467 promises that God has made…and history reports that He has kept every one…
•How many promises have you made to God? How many have you kept? And yet God has made thousands to you, (owes you nothing, in need of nothing), simply because He loves and cares for you, and He has kept every one of them!
•So, what “promises?” Paul was talking about in the last chapter for Christians to not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers but to be yoked to God and the promise that God makes is that if you do that, if you will trust Him over man, over this world, trust His Word over the conveniences and comforts of the flesh…that He will walk with you, He will receive you and He will take care of you like a Father takes care of a son…or a daughter. That’s the promise Paul is referring to…and therefore, having that promise, Paul says, “Let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit.”
•We have a role here! The thousands of promises of God being afforded to each one of us by grace but received by faith. This isn’t live my life and God bless what I want and how I want to live! This is God I give you my life to come into your blessing, provision and presence! And perhaps a slap in the face to the Gnostics, Paul says we need to be cleansed both in the flesh and in the spirit! The Gnostics believed that it was the flesh that was bad…the spirit was good…so live however way you want to live because you are clean in the spirit and who cares about the flesh. We call that behavior today, “Calvinism,” or “Hyper Calvinism.” You may not call it that, but I do…it’s the same premise, the same behavior and ultimately the same result…ruined lives spiritually and practically.
•So, it’s on you, and its on me, to come to the Lord and let Him cleanse us…but Paul and I just said we have to do it? YES! YOU have to come to the Lord! Just because I drive through the car wash doesn’t mean I didn’t wash my car! I can’t do the cleaning…God does that work…it is the work of the Holy Spirit to save a soul and sanctify a soul…but it is my work to present my body a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable for every good work…and it is my work to persevere…to stay near to God so that He is my God, and He remains my God rather than my flesh assuming the throne of my heart…
•So, does God do the cleaning? Yes! But do I do the cleaning? YES! These are not mutually exclusive! So specifically, …what must I do? I’m so glad you asked! Psalm 119:9-16, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes. With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.”
•Jesus, speaking to His disciples in John 15:3-6, “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
•It is by taking in the Word of God, knowing the Word of God. considering the Word of God, remembering the Word of God and keeping the Word of God…that is specifically your role in the cleansing of your flesh and spirit…in your life, perfecting holiness in the fear of God! You say, “Well, too hard man. The Word of God…just too…whatever…constricting, restricting, too radical and difficult, not for me.” Well dear soul, if that is not for you then neither is God walking with you, receiving you and being a Father to you…
•2 Kings 5, Naaman, the great and honorable commander of the army of the King of Syria…and yet he had become a leper. He learned through a captive servant Jewish girl that there was a prophet in Israel. Elisha ends up sending Naaman instructions. “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times and you shall be clean.” Naaman was furious. The dirty Jordan…and who are you to command me?! Elisha’s response, suit yourself…leper, HA! And yet the servants said to Naaman, “My Lord…, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? Your pride is killing you, man…,” and so Naaman did it…and 2 Kings 5:14 says, “His flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.”
•This is your part. This is your responsibility. The thousands of promises of God are available to you and they speak of God’s true care for you…therefore, having these promises, beloved, cleanse yourself…you know how now, don’t let your pride stop you…I pray for servants in your life sent by God like in Naaman’s life…cleanse yourself from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit and perfect in your life the call of holiness and finally finally finally truly draw near to and know God!
2 Corinthians Chapter 7 Verses 2 – 4
•Paul now making his formal request that they would receive him. This is a man of such courage. Why would I say that? Because the risk here, the real option here, is that they say no… One of the hardest things to do is put yourself out there, open your heart to someone, even if that means they will reject you. I know people that I’m sure have never done this for anyone. Never truly loved another person, never truly sought to serve the Lord by being poured out as an offering as Paul said he was in Philippians 2:17, and so today they stay bottled up, critical, hurtful and distant, and most certainly, limited. Why? Fear. Paul is not afraid…because although there will be many that reject him, the depth of joy in truly loving like God loves greatly outweighs the pain of rejection and offense.
2 Corinthians Chapter 7 Verses 5 – 7
•Look, look, look, go back for a minute! It’s great that God sends people in your life to comfort you and sometimes those people are the ones YOU should be comforting! Titus was Paul’s protégé, he was Paul’s son in the faith, and yet he is the one that was comforting Paul. But look, look at what Paul says, “God who comforts the downcast.” The word means brought low with grief, those that are grieving…God comforts them, and if that is you, then God is wanting and is fantastic at comforting! Reminding you of His promises, reminding you of His love…but know this, embedded in this word is not just that one is grieved or depressed but that one is humble in that grief, willing to take it to Him, willing to not take it out on others…but just take the grief and grief alone to the Lord.
•This is Paul and God comforts him by sending Titus…and he sees…Titus is comforted! That’s what it says here…that Titus came to Paul and Titus was comforted with a good message for Paul of their love for him and that transferred in equal amplitude to Paul. What do I mean by that? Christians, we are to SPREAD joy, to SPREAD good moods and good attitudes and smiles and love and all that good stuff and when you spread it, look, you lose none of it…in fact it grows! If Titus showed up with 10 units of comfort, by spreading it to Paul, now he has 15 units of comfort and so does Paul! It’s wonderful how that works…now that also works in the reverse, man. So, don’t be a fool and don’t be a poor witness of the hope and the joy we have in Christ but man, be a Christian and spread some joy! And by doing so your OWN joy builds and grows!!
2 Corinthians Chapter 7 Verses 8 – 12
•Look at what application of God’s Word, honest courageous contemplation of your own self and conclusion to follow the Lord gets you. Sorrowful. See that’s the side of the coin that so many only see…YES, there is sorrow, YES there is repentance but when you chose the Lord you grow and it becomes so much different and more than what we all fear…which is regret and losing something. Godly sorrow produces repentance, leading to salvation (of your soul and of your circumstance) and leads you AWAY from regret.
•I promise you that there are many Christians that are going to get to the end of their race, the end of their lives, and they are going to look back specifically on their marriages…the man that has stuck with them for these so many years…and they are going to weep because she never loved him the way God had asked. The way she could. Because she was too self-centered and closed-off and she knew it all along…but don’t give him too much because you’ll lose ground or lose leadership or lose something…and at the end there will be REGRET. Just one example. But truly going all in for what is right, following the Lord, giving Him your whole heart and trust…loving your husband like God loves you…there won’t be regret…and you’ll have years like you’ve never had before on the way to the end of the race.
•And look at what this type of person, this type of resolve, look at what the Christ follower gets…I love this…diligence, a clearing of the heart and mind and soul and strength, vehement passion and desire for life, zeal and ultimately release…vindication from the version of you that you knew you could always be but were always afraid to be! All simply because you have trusted trusted trusted the Lord…even if that means there is an element of sorrow involved!
2 Corinthians Chapter 7 Verses 13 – 14
•Look, there is the point from earlier put on display! Paul’s comforted because of their comfort and Paul has joy because of the joy of Titus!
2 Corinthians Chapter 7 Verses 15 – 16
•So it appears that perhaps in a time before, while Paul was being trashed by them, perhaps Titus trashed them back just between him and Paul but Paul defended them…maybe even a point of disagreement between Titus and Paul…but Paul said something like, “Forgive them, Titus, they don’t know what they’re doing.” And now, in the end, after some sorrow, after as he said before, “inside were fears,” choosing to trust trust trust God and love them in a way that he would have no regrets, look at this…, “Our boasting to Titus was found true.”
•That is the testimony of the end of the matter to each and every person over each and every generation in each and every situation, circumstance, marriage, problem, test, trial and storm…that has gone all-in in following Jesus and done what He would have them to do…God delivered. Led them away from regret…walked with them, dwelled within them and was a Father to them…the thousands of promises being afforded to each one of us by grace but received by faith.


2 Corintios Capitulo 7 Verso 1
•¿Cuáles promesas? Ahora bien, antes de que entremos en eso, ¿En primer lugar, Por qué Dios me haría promesas a mí? ¡Él no me debe nada! La única razón por la que tenemos promesas de Dios hacia nosotros (y tenemos muchas – esperen un momento), La única razón por la cual Dios nos promete algo es porque Él nos ama. La respuesta no es porque Dios es bueno… El puede ser bueno todo el tiempo, y no hacerme ninguna promesa, pero El te ha hecho miles de promesas a ti, para fortalecerte, para prepararte, para llevarte hacia aguas de quietud, para guiarte… La página Biblegateway.com reporta que la Biblia contiene 5, 467 promesas que Dios ha hecho… y la historia reporta que El ha cumplido todas y cada una…
•¿Cuántas promesas le has hecho a Dios? ¿Y cuantas has cumplido? Y aun así Dios te ha hecho a ti miles, (Él no te debe nada, y no tiene necesidad de nada), simplemente porque El te Ama, se preocupa por ti, y El ha cumplido todas cada una de esas promesas.
•Entonces, ¿Cuál “promesa?” Pablo esta hablando en el ultimo capitulo a los cristianos que no se unieran al yugo desigual, con inconversos pero que se unieran en el yugo de Dios y la promesa que Dios hace si tu haces eso, si tu confías en El en vez de confiar en el hombre, en vez de confiar en el mundo, confiar en Su Palabra en vez de las conveniencias, y comodidades de la carne…. El promete caminar contigo, Él te recibirá y tomará cuidado de ti como un padre toma cuidado de su hijo… o de su hija. Esa es la promesa a la que Pablo se refiere… y es por eso, que, teniendo esa promesa, Pablo dice, “Limpiémonos de toda impureza, de cuerpo y de espíritu.”
•¡Y tenemos un Rol aquí! Las promesas de Dios habiendo sido entregadas a cada uno de nosotros por la Gracia y recibidas por fe. Esto no significa vivir mi vida y que Dios bendiga lo que quiero y bendiga como yo quiero vivir. ¡Esto es Dios te entrego mi vida para entrar en tus promesas, provisión y en Tu Presencia! Y quizás una cachetada para los agnósticos, Pablo dice debemos ser limpiados en la carne y en el espíritu. Los agnósticos creen que era la carne lo que era malo… y el espíritu era bueno…de tal modo vivan como quieran vivir porque están limpios en el espíritu, y que importa la carne. A ese compartimiento hoy le llamamos “Calvinismo” or Hiper Calvinismo.” Quisa tu no lo llames así, pero yo si…es la misma premisa, el mismo comportamiento, y ultimadamente el mismo resultado… arruina vidas espiritual y prácticamente.
•Entonces, depende de ti, y depende de mí, venir al Señor y permitirle que nos limpie de toda impureza… Pero Pablo y yo acabamos de decir ¿tenemos que hacerlo? SI, TU tienes que venir al Señor. Solo porque maneje mi auto por el Lavado de Autos no significa que no lave mi auto. Yo no puedo hacer esa limpieza…Dios es el que hace ese trabajo… es el trabajo del Espíritu Santo, salvar un alma y santificar esa alma…pero es mi trabajo presentar mi cuerpo como un sacrificio vivo, santo y aceptable para toda buena obra… y es mi trabajo perseverar… mantenerme cerca de Dios, porque El es mi Dios, y El siempre será mi Dios, y así mi carne no estará en el trono de mi corazón…
Entonces, ¿es Dios quien hace esa limpieza en mí? ¡SI! Pero ¿yo hago esa limpieza? ¡SI! Esto no es algo mutualmente exclusivo… entonces específicamente,… ¿qué debo hacer? ¡Me alegra que hayas preguntado! Salmo 119:9-16 dice, ¿Con qué limpiará el joven su camino?
Con guardar tu palabra. Con todo mi corazón te he buscado;
No me dejes desviarme de tus mandamientos. En mi corazón he guardado tus dichos, Para no pecar contra ti. Bendito tú, oh, Jehová; Enséñame tus estatutos. Con mis labios he contado Todos los juicios de tu boca. Me he gozado en el camino de tus testimonios Más que de toda riqueza. En tus mandamientos meditaré; Consideraré tus caminos. Me regocijaré en tus estatutos; No me olvidaré de tus palabras.
Jesús hablando a los discípulos en Juan 15:3-6
ya están limpios por la palabra que les he comunicado. Permanezcan en mí, y yo permaneceré en ustedes. Así como ninguna rama puede dar fruto por sí misma, sino que tiene que permanecer en la vid, así tampoco ustedes pueden dar fruto si no permanecen en mí. Yo soy la vid y ustedes son las ramas. El que permanece en mí, como yo en él, dará mucho fruto; separados de mí no pueden ustedes hacer nada. 6El que no permanece en mí es desechado y se seca, como las ramas que se recogen, se arrojan al fuego y se queman.
•Esta en el tomar la Palabra de Dios, conocer la Palabra de Dios, considerar la palabra de Dios, recordar la palabra de Dios y permanecer en la Palabra de Dios… ese es específicamente tu rol en el limpiar tu carne y espíritu…en tu vida, ¡perfeccionando la santidad en el temor de Dios! Quizás digas, “Bueno, eso es muy difícil” La Palabra de Dios…es simplemente esto o lo otro…tiene muchas restricciones, muy radical y difícil, no es para mí” Bien, querida alma, si eso no es para ti, entones Dios tampoco es para ti.
• 2 de Reyes 5, Naaman, el gran y honorable comandante de la Armada de el Rey de Siria…y aun así el fue leproso. Y el aprendió a través de una niña judía que había un profeta en Israel. Elías, termina enviando a Naaman unas instrucciones. “Ve y lávate en el rio Jordán siete veces y serás limpio.” Naaman estaba furioso. En el sucio rio Jordán, y ¿quién eres tú para darme ordenes? La respuesta de Elías, has como tu gustes…leproso, ¡Ha! Y los sirvientes le dijeron a Naaman, “Mi Señor… Si el profeta le hubiera pedido que hiciera algo grande, ¿acaso no lo hubieras hecho? el orgullo te esta matando… de modo que el lo hizo… y en 2 de Reyes 5:14 dice, “y su piel fue restaurada como la piel de un niño, y fue limpio”
•Esa es tu parte. Esta es tu responsabilidad. Las miles de promesas de Dios disponibles para ti, y estas hablan del la verdad de la preocupación de Dios hacia ti… así que teniendo estas promesas, amado hermano, límpiense ustedes mismos…ustedes ahora saben como hacerlo, y no permitan que su orgullo los detenga… yo oro para que Dios les envíe a ustedes siervos de Dios como los siervos de Naaman, a sus vidas… ¡sean limpiados de toda impureza de la carne y del espíritu, y que sea perfeccionada en tu vida ese llamado de santidad, y finalmente, finalmente, finalmente acércate y conoce a Dios verdaderamente!.
2 Corintios Capitulo 7 Versos 2-4
•Pablo ahora haciendo su petición formal de lo reciban. Este es un hombre con grandes agallas. Y ¿Por qué digo eso? Porque el gran riesgo aquí es que ellos digan No… una de las cosas mas difíciles de hacer es que te abras a alguien, que abras tu corazón hacia alguien, y a pesar de que eso significa de te van a rechazar. Yo conozco gente que estoy seguro de que nunca han hecho esto por alguien. Nunca han verdaderamente amado a otra persona, o que nunca han verdaderamente buscado servir a Dios, entregándose como ofrenda, como Pablo lo dijo en Filipenses 2:17, y ahora ellos se mantienen encerrados, llenos de critica, hiriendo y distantes, y lo mas seguro, limitdos. ¿Por qué? Temor, Pablo no tiene Temor…porque, aunque va a ver muchos que lo rechazaran, lo profundo de su gozo, en amar verdaderamente como Dios ama, gana el peso del dolor del rechazo y la ofensa.
2 Corintios Capitulo 7 Versos 5-7
•Miren, miren, miren, regresen por un minuto. Es grandioso que Dios envia gente a tu vida para consolarte, y a veces esas personas son a las que TU debes de consolar. Tito fue el que Pablo protegia, era el hijo de Pablo en la fe, y sin embargo el era quien consolaba a Pablo.
Pero miren, miren lo que Pablo dice, “Dios quien consuela a los abatidos.” La palabra abatido significa Abatido por el Dolor, aquellos que están pasando por dolor…Dios los consuela, y si ese eres tú, pues Dios quiere hacerlo y él es Fantástico al Consolar. recordándote de sus promesas, recordándote de Su Amor…pero debes saber esto, dentro de esta palabra, no significa únicamente que uno está en dolor, sufrimiento, y depresión, sino que uno esta lleno de humildad en el dolor, siendo dispuesto a llevárselo a Él, y siendo dispuesto a no desquitar tu dolor en otros…pero solamente lleva tu dolor, únicamente tu sufrimiento a Dios.
•Este es Pablo y Dios lo consuela enviando a Tito…y el ve que… Tito es consolado. Eso es lo que dice aquí… que Tito vino a Pablo y Tito fue consolado con un buen mensaje de Pablo de su amor por él, y eso se transfirió en una amplitud equivalente hacia Pablo. ¿Qué es lo que quiero decir con esto? Hermanos Cristianos debemos ESPARCIR GOZO, ESPARCIR buenos temperamentos, y buenas actitudes, y sonrisas, y amor y todo lo bueno, y cuando lo esparcimos, mira, no pierdes nada de todo eso… de hecho ¡eso crece! Si, Tito llego o se presento con 10 unidades de consuelo, esparciéndolo hacia Pablo, ahora el tiene 15 unidades de consuelo, y Pablo También. Es realmente maravilloso como eso funciona…ahora está también trabaja si lo hacemos al revés. Así es que no seas ignorante, y no des un testimonio pobre de la esperanza, y el gozo que tenemos en Cristo, se un cristiano y esparce el gozo. Y al hacerlo, veras que Tu PROPIO gozo se multiplica y crece.
2 Corintios Capitulo 7 versos 8-12
•Mira a donde te lleva la aplicación de la Palabra de Dios tu vida con agallas, y honestidad de la contemplación de ti mismo y llegar a la conclusión de seguir al Señor. Sufrimiento/ Dolor. Ese es la cara de la moneda que muchos ven únicamente. Si hay Sufrimientos, Si hay arrepentimiento, pero cuando eliges a Dios tu creces y viene esto a ser mucho mas diferente y mucho mas de lo que todos tememos…lo cual es el lamento, y perder algo. El sufrimiento en Dios o de Dios produce arrepentimiento, y te lleva a la Salvación (de tu alma y a la salvación de tu circunstancia) y te aleja de todo lamento.
•Les prometo que va a ver muchos Cristianos que van a llegar al final de la carrera, al final de sus vidas, y van a mirar hacia tras específicamente en sus matrimonios…y el ser/hombre que estuvo estancado dentro de ellos por tantos años…van a llorar, y se van a lamentar, porque ella nunca lo amo en la manera que Dios se lo pidió.
•En la forma que ella hubiera podido hacerlo. Por qué ella estaba solo enfocado en si misma, cerreda, y ella lo sabia todo este tiempo…pero no le des tanto a el, por que puedes perder terreno, o puedes perder control o liderazgo o algo… y al final… habrá LAMENTO. Ese es solo un ejemplo. Pero en realidad entrando completamente a lo que es correcto, siguiendo a Dios, entregándole a El completamente tu corazón y confianza…amar a tu esposo como Dios te Ama a ti…no habrá lamentos y tendrás anos como los que nunca has tenido en el camino hacia la meta final.
•Y mira, lo que esta tipo de persona, este tipo de resolución, mira lo que el Seguidor de Cristo obtiene… amo esto…diligencia, aclaramiento en el corazón, mente y alma, fuerza, una pasión vehemente, y deseo por la vida, celo de Dios y ultimadamente libertad, es soltado… ¡la vindicación de la versión de ti, de lo que sabias que siempre ibas a ser pero que siempre tuviste miedo de ser! Y todo esto simplemente porque confiaste, confiaste, confiaste en el Señor… a pesar de que eso signifique que hay un elemento de sufrimiento envuelto.
2 Cor. Capitulo 7 Versos 13-14
•Miren, hay un punto aquí de antes, pónganlo en exposición! Pablo es consolado por el consuelo de ellos, y Pablo tiene gozo por el gozo de Tito.
2 Corintios Capitulo 7 Versos 15-16
•Pareciera quizás anteriormente, que mientras Pablo fue acusado por ellos, quizás Tito también los acuso a ellos solo entre Pablo y Tito pero Pablo los defendio…y talvez hasta un punto de desacuerdo entre Pablo y Tito… pero Pablo dijo algo así…” Perdonalos Tito ellos no saben lo que hacen”. Y ahora al final, después de un poco de sufrimiento, después así como lo dijo el antes, “dentro había temores,” pero eligiendo confiar confiar confiar en Dios, y amándolos de tal manera en la que no habrá lamentos, y arrepentimientos después, miren esto…lo que le presumíamos a Tito fue verdad.”
•Ese es testimonio al final del problema de cada uno, y cada persona, en toda y cada generación y en todas y cada situación, circunstancias, matrimonios, problemas, pruebas, tribulaciones, y tormentas…que hallas decidido entrar completamente en seguir a Jesús y hacer lo que El nos pide hacer… Dios Libertado. Guiados por Dios sin lamentos y arrepentimientos…caminando con ellos, permanecer en ellos y siendo un Padre para ellos… las miles de promesas que han sido dadas a nosotros por su gracia, pero recibidas por fe.
