2 Corinthians 8 vs 1-24

2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verses 1 – 2
•What!? “Trial of affliction, deep poverty…abundance of joy!?” Someone, please tell Paul that those words don’t go together! Kinda like “yummm” and “carrot!” HA!
•This is the mystery of the glory of the grace of God. The riddle of His power upon the heart that seeks Him! Abundance of joy, the inward man surging forward in supernatural blessedness even though outwardly there is perhaps a depth of poverty! There is richness of liberality, which is simply freedom of heart, even though the physical circumstance is restrained! This is the secret of God’s provision that He wants to lavish, give entirely, to everybody…but it requires a giving of yourself. A trade with God…trade with Him…give your life over to Him…and in return your reward is life and life abundant!
•Maybe we shouldn’t be telling people to “Come to Jesus” or “Get saved,” at all! Perhaps we should just say, “Dude, GET A LIFE!” Because look at this!
•I love calling this a riddle because that is exactly what it is! The church in Macedonia was very poor (think Philippi, Berea, Thessalonica), the church in Corinth was very rich, and yet the church in Macedonia was outgiving the church in Corinth!! WHY? Because the church in Macedonia was abounding in joy and rich in freedom! And look it’s not about giving money…it’s about costing you something to follow the Lord! The more you give to the Lord, the more filled you are! It’s an incredible mysterious riddle for each of us to solve!!
•Giving to God can never be measured by the amount that you give. It can only be measured by the cost of the gift. So yes, it could be and truly it should touch your money but ultimately it is about your trust and your worship and your seeking of the Lord. And the more you do those things, the more you experience the abounding grace, the abundance of joy in the inner man…why? Because the outward circumstance grows, or should I say, diminishes to be secondary to your walk with the Lord. You become about walking with the Lord.
•Psalm 56:11, “In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Psalm 118:6, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” The puzzle of this life, my dear friends, the maze to be navigated, the labyrinth that consumes the far majority of all men and women…is defeated by discovering this truth…, “Whoever hands their life over to the Lord, will save it…” and in return Jesus shows up in your life, in your heart, in your mind, in your mood, in your home, in your day, in your dilemma and in your circumstance and just as He promised, He carries with Him life and life abundant!!
•So yea…., “Great trial in affliction,”…, “Deep poverty,”…, those words do go with, “Abundance of joy,” and, “Rich in liberality,” if your life is filled with the fruit of the Spirit…which circumstance can’t touch, man! “Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control! – Against such there is no law…” Untouchable riches, man!!
•Paul encourages and challenges the church in Corinth that was rich with money but poor in freedom…look at the Macedonian church…they don’t have a fraction of what you have in terms of worldly riches…but they far exceed you in joy and in the grace of God!
2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verses 3 – 4
•That’s an interesting philosophy of giving. Instead of asking for money from the pulpit, the church in Macedonia was asking Paul, he uses the word, “imploring,” him to receive the monetary gift!
2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verse 5
•This is what made the gift so remarkable. It wasn’t the amount. Nowhere in here does Paul divulge how much was given. What made it so strikingly wonderful was that the church had first given themselves to the Lord, and then to Paul and Titus by the will of God. We are to love others as ourselves. With grace and with patience and with affection and with kindness…well, we simply cannot do that until we first love the Lord. That’s just how it is…we cannot be commanded to love one another…it is a result of giving your heart to Jesus!
•You want to be less of a jerk? Give your heart to Jesus! You want to be more patient with your kids? Give your heart to Jesus! You want to be more compassionate with your employees? Give your heart to Jesus! You want to be more kind to your wife or more respectful to your husband? Give your heart to Jesus! David called out in Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me!” He did not cry out to himself…because self can’t do that work, man…you can’t set out to be kinder, more compassionate, more respectful, more patient…doesn’t work…or at best isn’t sustainable…but you can seek the Lord and His faithful promise is that He can do some major work in your heart, soul, mind and strength!
2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verses 6 – 7
•Here’s a fairly straight-forward statement to the church there in Corinth and to the church today. If you think you abound in faith, speech, knowledge, diligence in your faith and love for one another…and yet you do not abound in giving…well, wake up call, man! God’s heart IS a giving heart! So how can you excel in faith and diligence and knowledge and love and yet you don’t abound in giving. You don’t love giving! You haven’t even begun to solve the riddle of abundance in this life yet!? A significantly stark wake-up call, man! And a call to abound in the Lord…by abounding in your love for the Lord!
2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verses 8 – 9
•When was Jesus rich? Jesus said in Luke 9:58, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” He never owned anything, never had a bank account…so when was He rich? Before He stepped into humanity and this is a very important point. There are those that seek to deny the deity of Jesus Christ but it is plain here. Jesus did not have His beginning at human birth, if so this statement by Paul would be impossible…the truth is Jesus is indeed God, the Alpha and the Omega, the Almighty.
•And He set aside all of heaven to step into humanity to save it. He became poor that you through His poverty might become rich.
2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verses 10 – 11
•It is a Godly thing to finish what you start. If you say you’re going to do something, do it…and to do it without delay. Apparently, the church in Corinth had made some sort of commitment to give to the church in need in Jerusalem but they had not carried through on that commitment.
•Listen, there are talkers, thinkers, dreamers and then there are doers. No matter how small the task…people that do outperform and provide more value than people that dream. At some point, you have to do something or nothing every gets done. I love big ideas, visions of how the future could be and how great it could be but I AND THE LORD very much more value the person willing to actually do something. Even if that is seemingly small, insignificant compared to the exciting and profound concept, the smallest of “finishes,” the tiniest of accomplishments…is still of more value.
2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verse 12
•Paul is talking to them about giving and about being generous but this is a truth that is applicable across the board. If you are willing, what you have is good and it is enough. Irreconcilable differences don’t exist…look at the cross…the truth is that you aren’t willing to love him…or you are willing to love her…
2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verses 13 – 15
•I am not a proponent of socialism as the Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 3:10, “If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.” And 1 Timothy 5:8 says, “If anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” So, I do not believe the Bible teaches or approves of socialism but what I do believe in is giving. To whom much as been given, much is required…You know, we can put that all to bed and stop the whole conversation with the tithe…that’s why I love it.
•We are not to give by command, that would be taxation…we are to give by love…and then the problem is…am I giving enough? The tithe answers that question across the board no matter your wealth…and there is a promise in the Bible given by God…that to whom much was given and yet he does nothing with it other than serve himself (think about the parable of the talents), even that which he has will be taken away…but to the faithful servant, more will be entrusted.
2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verses 16 – 21
•I love how careful Paul is about handling the money. He essentially stays out of it because he knows that even being in it at all could bring dishonor…and honestly, he doesn’t trust himself. Very wise. It is very wise to avoid situations where you can’t trust yourself entirely…It’s also important that in ministry we bring honor to God and to man. That the church isn’t dishonest or shameful in any way…not because we are men-pleasers but because we are here to be fishers of men…
2 Corinthians Chapter 8 Verses 22 – 24
•I love that…you, brethren, brothers and sisters in the Lord…messengers of the love, grace, and redemption of God through Jesus Christ…Paul calls you here, the glory of Christ. Man, that’s the whole reason He went to the cross. The whole revelation…was to show forth His great love, to show forth His greatness…in the rescue of His children. You. And so, like a father filled with love and filled with joy by the bond he has with his son or daughter, so you are the very glory of God in His heart of hearts.
•So, don’t miss the mystery, man. Don’t fail to solve the riddle and find what God intended for His children in this life…the power to overcome darkness and to live even as He lives…in abundance of joy and richness of freedom!


2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Versículos 1 - 2
- ¿Qué? "Prueba de aflicción, profunda pobreza... ¿abundancia de alegría!?" ¡Alguien, por favor, dígale a Pablo que esas palabras ¡no van juntas! Como "ñame" y "zanahoria". ¡JA!
- Este es el misterio de la gloria de la gracia de Dios. ¡El enigma de su poder sobre el corazón que lo busca! Abundancia de alegría, el hombre interior surgiendo en una bendición sobrenatural, aunque externamente haya quizás una ¡profundidad de pobreza! Hay riqueza de generosidad, que es simplemente libertad de corazón, ¡aunque la circunstancia física esté restringida! Este es el secreto de la provisión de Dios que quiere prodigar, dar completamente, a todo el mundo... pero requiere una entrega de sí mismo. Un intercambio con Dios... intercambio con Él... dale tu vida a Él... y a cambio tu recompensa es ¡vida y vida abundante!
- ¡Quizás no deberíamos decirle a la gente "¡Vengan a Jesús” o “!Sálvense”, en absoluto! Tal vez deberíamos simplemente decir, "¡Amigo, ¡HAZ ALGO UTIL CON TU VIDA!" ¡Porque mira esto!
- Me encanta llamar a esto un acertijo porque es ¡exactamente lo que es! La iglesia de Macedonia era muy pobre (piensa en Filipos, Berea, Tesalónica), la iglesia de Corinto era muy rica, y aun así la iglesia de Macedonia estaba dando ¡más que la iglesia de Corinto! ¿POR QUÉ? Porque la iglesia de Macedonia ¡abundaba en alegría y era rica en generosidad! Y mira, no se trata de dar dinero... ¡se trata de que te cueste algo seguir al Señor! ¡Cuanto más le das al Señor, más lleno estás! ¡Es un increíble y misterioso acertijo para que cada uno de nosotros lo resuelva!
- Dar a Dios nunca puede ser medido por la cantidad que das. Sólo puede ser medido por el costo del regalo. Así que sí, podría ser y realmente debería tocar tu dinero, pero en última instancia se trata de tu confianza, tu adoración y tu búsqueda del Señor. Y cuanto más hagas esas cosas, más experimentas la gracia abundante, la abundancia de alegría en el hombre interior... ¿por qué? Porque la circunstancia externa crece, o debería decir, disminuye para ser secundaria en tu caminar con el Señor. Te conviertes en un caminar con el Señor.
- Salmo 56:11, "En Dios he puesto mi confianza; no temeré". ¿Qué puede hacerme el hombre?" Salmo 118:6, "El Señor está de mi lado; no temeré. ¿Qué puede hacerme el hombre?" El rompecabezas de esta vida, queridos amigos, el laberinto por el que hay que navegar, el laberinto que consume a la gran mayoría de los hombres y mujeres... es derrotado al descubrir esta verdad..., "Quien entregue su vida al Señor, la salvará..." y a cambio Jesús aparece en tu vida, en tu corazón, en tu mente, en tu estado de ánimo, en tu casa, en tu día, en tu dilema y en tu circunstancia y, tal como lo prometió, ¡El lleva consigo vida y vida en abundancia!
- Así que sí..., "Gran prueba en la aflicción",.. "Pobreza profunda",..., esas palabras van con, "Abundancia de alegría", y, "Rico en generosidad", si tu vida está llena del fruto del Espíritu... ¡que circunstancia no puede tocar, hombre! "¡Amor, alegría, paz, paciencia, amabilidad, bondad, fidelidad, gentileza y autocontrol! - Contra tales no hay ley..." ¡¡Riquezas intocables, hombre!!
- Pablo anima y desafía a la iglesia de Corinto que era rica en dinero, pero pobre en libertad... mira la iglesia de Macedonia... no tienen una fracción de lo que tú tienes en términos de riquezas del mundo... pero te superan con alegría y en la gracia de Dios!

2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Versículos 3 - 4
- Es una filosofía interesante de dar. En lugar de pedir dinero desde el púlpito, la iglesia de Macedonia le pedía a Pablo, que usara la palabra "implorar" para recibir ¡el regalo monetario!


2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Verso 5
- Esto es lo que hizo que el regalo fuera tan notable. No fue la cantidad. En ningún lugar Paul divulga cuánto se dio. Lo que lo hizo tan asombroso fue que la iglesia se había entregado primero al Señor, y luego a Pablo y Tito por voluntad de Dios. Debemos amar a los demás como a nosotros mismos. Con gracia, paciencia, afecto y bondad... bueno, simplemente no podemos hacerlo hasta que no amemos primero al Señor. Así es como es... no se nos puede ordenar que nos amemos los unos a los otros... ¡este es el resultado de dar tu corazón a Jesús!
- ¿Quieres ser menos imbécil? ¡Dale tu corazón a Jesús! ¿Quieres ser más paciente con tus hijos? ¡Dale tu corazón a Jesús! ¿Quieres ser más compasivo con tus empleados? ¡Dale tu corazón a Jesús! ¿Quieres ser más amable con tu esposa o más respetuoso con tu esposo? ¡Dale tu corazón a Jesús! David dijo en el Salmo 51:10, "Crea en mí un corazón limpio, oh Dios, y renueva un espíritu firme dentro de mí". El no se gritó a sí mismo... porque uno mismo no puede hacer ese trabajo, hombre... no puedes pretender ser más amable, más compasivo, más respetuoso, más paciente... no funciona... o en el mejor de los casos no es sostenible... pero puedes buscar al Señor y su fiel promesa es que Él puede hacer un trabajo importante en tu corazón, alma, mente y fuerza!

2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Versículos 6 - 7
- Aquí hay una declaración bastante directa a la iglesia de Corinto y a la iglesia de hoy. Si crees que abundas en la fe, en la palabra, en el conocimiento, en la entrega de la fe y el amor al prójimo... y sin embargo no abundas en dar... bueno, ¡despierta, hombre! ¡El corazón de Dios ES un corazón dadivoso! Entonces, ¿cómo puedes sobresalir en la fe y la diligencia y el conocimiento y el amor y, sin embargo, no abundan en dar. ¡No te encanta dar! ¿¡Ni siquiera has empezado a resolver el enigma de la abundancia en esta vida todavía!? ¡Una llamada de atención significativamente dura, hombre! Y una llamada para abundar en el Señor... ¡abundando en tu amor por el Señor!

2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Versículos 8 - 9
- ¿Cuándo fue rico Jesús? Jesús dijo en Lucas 9:58, "Las zorras tienen guaridas y las aves de los cielos nidos, pero el Hijo del Hombre no tiene donde recostar su cabeza". Nunca tuvo nada, nunca tuvo una cuenta bancaria... ¿cuándo fue rico? Antes de El entrar en la humanidad y este es un punto muy importante. Hay quienes buscan negar la deidad de Jesucristo, pero está claro aquí. Jesús no tuvo su comienzo en el nacimiento humano, si es así esta declaración de Pablo sería imposible... la verdad es que Jesús es de hecho Dios, el Alfa y la Omega, el Todopoderoso.
- Y dejó de lado todo el cielo para entrar en la humanidad y salvarla. Se hizo pobre para que tú, a través de su pobreza, te hicieras rico.
2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Versículos 10 - 11
- Es una cosa divina terminar lo que se empieza. Si dices que vas a hacer algo, hazlo... y hazlo sin demora. Aparentemente, la iglesia de Corinto había hecho algún tipo de compromiso para dar a la iglesia necesitada de Jerusalén, pero no habían cumplido con ese compromiso.
- Escucha, hay habladores, pensadores, soñadores y luego hay hacedores. No importa cuán pequeña sea la tarea... las personas que hacen superan y dan mayor valor que las personas que sueñan. En algún momento, tienes que hacer algo o nunca nada se hace. Me encantan las grandes ideas, las visiones de cómo podría ser el futuro y lo grande que podría ser, pero yo Y EL SEÑOR valoramos mucho más la persona dispuesta a hacer algo. Incluso si eso es aparentemente pequeño, insignificante comparado con el emocionante y profundo concepto, el más pequeño de los "acabados", el más diminuto de los logros... sigue siendo de más valor.

2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Verso 12
- Paul les habla de dar y ser generoso, pero esta es una verdad que se aplica en todos los ámbitos. Si estás dispuesto, lo que tienes es bueno y es suficiente. Las diferencias irreconciliables no existen... mira la cruz... la verdad es que no estás dispuesto a amarlo a él... o estás dispuesto a amarla a ella...

2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Versículos 13 - 15
- No soy partidario del socialismo como lo dice la Biblia en 2 Tesalonicenses 3:10, "Si alguno no quiere trabajar, tampoco coma". Y 1 Timoteo 5:8 dice: "Si alguno no provee para los suyos, y especialmente para los de su casa, ha negado la fe y es peor que un incrédulo". Así que no creo que la Biblia enseñe o apruebe el socialismo, pero lo que sí creo es en el dar. A quien se le ha dado mucho, se le requiere mucho... Ya sabes, podemos terminar con esto, hacerlo a un lado y detener toda la conversación sobre el diezmo... por eso me encanta.
- No debemos dar por mandato, eso sería un impuesto... debemos dar por amor... y entonces el problema es... ¿estoy dando lo suficiente? El diezmo responde a esa pregunta de manera general sin importar su riqueza... y hay una promesa en la Biblia dada por Dios... que a quien mucho le fue dado y sin embargo no hace nada con ello más que servirse a sí mismo (piense en la parábola de los talentos), incluso lo que tiene se les será quitado... pero al siervo fiel, más le será confiado.


2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Versículos 16 - 21
- Me encanta lo cuidadoso que es Paul con el manejo del dinero. Esencialmente se mantiene al margen porque sabe que incluso el estar ahí le podría traer deshonra... y honestamente, el no confía en sí mismo. Muy sabio. Es muy sabio evitar situaciones en las que no se puede confiar completamente en uno mismo... También es importante que en el ministerio traigamos honor a Dios y al hombre. Que la iglesia no sea deshonesta o vergonzosa de ninguna manera... no porque seamos hombres complacientes, sino porque estamos aquí para ser pescadores de hombres...

2 Corintios Capítulo 8 Versículos 22 - 24
- Me encanta que... ustedes, compañeros, hermanos y hermanas en el Señor... mensajeros del amor, la gracia y la redención de Dios a través de Jesucristo... Pablo los llama aquí, la gloria de Cristo. Hombre, esa es la razón por la que fue a la cruz. Toda la revelación... fue para mostrar SU gran amor, para mostrar SU grandeza... en el rescate de SUS hijos. Tú... Y así, como un padre lleno de amor y lleno de alegría por el vínculo que tiene con su hijo o hija, así tú eres la misma gloria de Dios en su corazón de corazones.
- Así que no te pierdas el misterio, hombre. No dejes de resolver el enigma y encuentra lo que Dios quiso para sus hijos en esta vida... ¡el poder de vencer a la oscuridad y vivir incluso como Él vive... en la abundancia de la alegría y la riqueza de la libertad!
