2 Corinthians 10 vs 7-18

2 Corinthians Chapter 10 Verse 7
•Last week we talked about this exceptional advantage that we have available to us as Christians in that we, through the indwelling communion of the Holy Spirit within our heart of hearts don’t have to only rely on the weakness of our natural senses to discern the best way, reaction or path…but that we can, if we so desire, we can learn the faithfulness of God by trusting the Word of God…and in that find and walk the path of victory and joy.
•What is the shortest distance between two points? You got it! A straight line! And the shortest distance equates to the most efficient…logically and logistically and advantageously, the best way to get from point A to point B is to go in a straight line. Right!? So, check this out, Isaiah 45:2, God says, “I will go before you and make the crooked places straight!” (NIV says, “Level the mountains”) Following the lead of the Lord, man…learning and trusting…this is the way to victory and joy…I just want to give you a couple more…
•Proverbs 3:5-6, (I’m going to mix the NLT and the NIV – has anyone every done this? HA!), “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and he will make your paths straight!” Straight! Logically and logistically and advantageously the best way to make your way! Look at the flip, Proverbs 11:3, “The crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them.” Isaiah 59:8, “They do not know the way of peace, and there is no justice in their tracks. (Why) They have made their paths crooked…”
•Paul is calling the Church in Corinth out on this symptom. They were full of activity but they were peaceless, loveless, homes were being wrecked and they were openly critical and cruel of Paul especially when he wasn’t there…why? Paul diagnoses the problem in verse 7…they were walking according to the flesh. And according to the flesh, they and them and you and us are way…but according to the Spirit, we are all something else entirely!
•Second century description of Paul, “Small in stature, bald head, crooked legs, skinny…with a somewhat hooked nose and eyebrows that meet.” HA! Rocking the unibrow! Nothing at all impressive according to the flesh…but according to the Spirit? Well, if your Bible is open right now to 2 Corinthians…its by the hand of Paul that we have the heart of God… And so be cautioned, walking according to the flesh…you miss so much as you stumble along your illogical, disadvantageous and inefficient path… Christian, follow the lead of the Lord instead.
•And Paul makes this wonderful statement in Verse 7, “Hey if you think yourself a Christian and you know I’m a Christian, then why are you so dag-on harsh!! That’s not Christian at all!” If you have won the heart of God, then why haven’t you won mine?
•Here’s what I think is number one priority in this post-modern, resource rich, knowledge flooded, self-focused church…we need to invite Christ back into Christianity! And let the King of kindness lead the church back onto the straight path! We are supposed to be man-kind, not man-selfish! You agree with that? Then its up to YOU!
2 Corinthians Chapter 10 Verse 8
•I like that…if God has given you authority, that word in the Greek can also mean strength, power or even liberty, remember, it is not to destroy others but rather to build them up. That’s why God has given it to you.
2 Corinthians Chapter 10 Verses 9 – 12
•In one sense it’s foolish to measure yourself by comparing yourself to others. One of the weakest defenses possible that you may hear when you’re talking to someone about some sort of sin in their life is, “Well at least…” At least what? “Well at least I’m not a murderer!” Congrats! Sheesh…that’s a foolish thought and statement because at its core, it seeks an excuse for sin rather than a turning from sin.
•It’s also foolish to measure yourself purely against others because first of all you’re limited…you’re only around who you’re around…and it could be that perhaps present company, or your family, or your co-workers don’t exactly set the bar very high. Think of it this way…it would be no compliment to be called the most spiritual person in Corinth!
•Another reason is that no one is you…Look, get goodness from the goodness of others. Mentors are so important. People you look up to…learn from…aspire to be more like…and we could do none of those things if we didn’t measure ourselves in a way against them…but remember, you’re not them and you’re not supposed to be them. You’re supposed to be you…I promise you, there is no scale in heaven that says Billy Graham or Chuck Smith or Greg Laurie that you have to stand on to see if you’re worthy enough. My true-north measuring stick is the Word of God, and really that’s it…
2 Corinthians Chapter 10 Verses 13 – 18
•Check out Jeremiah 9:23-24 which is what Paul is quoting here…In the end, after it is all said and done, all the noise is gone and everything is revealed, it won’t matter what you or I say about our own accomplishments. All that will matter is what God says about us…that’s all that will be heard…that’s all that will endure.
•So, have the authority, the power, the intellect, the resources, the job, the family, the understanding, have the things that God has given you…but don’t glory in them. Boasting in them to set yourself on high. If you do that, you won’t really enjoy any of it…but glory in the Lord…that’s the key to using what God has given you properly…that’s the key to building others up…that’s really the key to enjoying them and having them rather than them having you.
•And here’s the wonderful thing about glorying in the Lord. No matter if you have much or have little, no one is so high that they cannot glory in the Lord and no one is so low that they cannot glory in the Lord…we all can and in that we all place ourselves on equal ground…and that is so very pleasing to the Lord. Why? Because He gave His life equally for us all!

•La semana pasada hablamos de esta ventaja excepcional que tenemos a nuestra disposición como cristianos en el sentido de que nosotros, a través de la comunión residente del Espíritu Santo en el corazón de nuestros corazones, no tenemos que confiar sólo en la debilidad de nuestros sentidos naturales para discernir la mejor manera, reacción o camino... sino que podemos, si así lo deseamos, aprender la fidelidad de Dios confiando en la Palabra de Dios... y en eso encontrar y caminar el camino de la victoria y la alegría.
•¿Cuál es la distancia más corta entre dos puntos? ¡Ya lo tienes! ¡Una línea recta! Y la distancia más corta equivale a la más eficiente... lógica y logísticamente y ventajosamente, la mejor manera de ir del punto A al punto B es ir en línea recta. ¿¡Correcto!? Así que, miren esto, Isaías 45:2, Dios dice, "Iré delante de ti y enderezaré los lugares torcidos" (NIV dice, "Nivela las montañas") Siguiendo la guía del Señor, el hombre... aprendiendo y confiando... este es el camino a la victoria y el gozo...
•Proverbios 3:5-6, (Voy a mezclar la NLT y la NIV - ¿alguien ha hecho esto? ¡Ha!), "Confía en el Señor con todo tu corazón y no dependas de tu propio entendimiento. Busca su voluntad en todo lo que hagas, y él hará que tus caminos sean rectos! "Recto! Lógica y logísticamente y ventajosamente la mejor manera de hacer tu camino! Mira el giro, Proverbios 11:3, "La torpeza de los traidores los destruirá". Isaías 59:8, "No conocen el camino de la paz, y no hay justicia en sus caminos. (Por qué) Han hecho sus caminos torcidos..."
•Pablo está llamando a la Iglesia de Corinto por este síntoma. Estaban llenos de actividad pero no tenían paz, ni amor, los hogares estaban siendo destruidos y eran abiertamente críticos y crueles con Pablo, especialmente cuando no estaba allí... ¿por qué? Pablo diagnostica el problema en el verso.
7... caminaban según la carne. Y según la carne, ellos y tú y nosotros somos camino... pero según el Espíritu, ¡todos somos algo completamente distinto!
•Descripción de Pablo en el siglo II, "Pequeño de estatura, calvo, piernas torcidas, flaco... con una nariz un poco aguileña y cejas que se juntan". ¡HA! ¡ Uniceja! Nada impresionante según la carne... ¿pero según el espíritu? Bueno, si su Biblia está abierta ahora mismo a 2 Corintios... es por la mano de Pablo que tenemos el corazón de Dios... Y así que tenga cuidado, caminando de acuerdo a la carne... se pierde tanto como tropieza en su ilógico, desventajoso e ineficiente camino... Cristiano, sigue la guía del Señor en su lugar.
•Y Pablo hace esta maravillosa declaración en el versículo 7, "Oye, si te crees cristiano y sabes que yo soy cristiano, entonces ¿por qué eres tan duro? ¡Eso no es para nada cristiano!" Si te has ganado el corazón de Dios, ¿por qué no te has ganado el mío?
•Esto es lo que creo que es la prioridad número uno en esta iglesia postmoderna, rica en recursos, inundada de conocimiento y enfocada en sí misma... ¡tenemos que invitar a Cristo a volver al cristianismo! ¡Y dejar que el Rey de la bondad guíe a la iglesia de vuelta al camino recto! ¡Se supone que debemos ser hombres bondadosos, no hombres egoístas! ¿Está de acuerdo con eso? ¡Entonces depende de TI!

2 Corintios Capítulo 10 Verso 8
•Me gusta eso... si Dios te ha dado autoridad, esa palabra en griego también puede significar fuerza, poder o incluso libertad, recuerda, no es para destruir a otros sino para construirlos. Por eso Dios te la ha dado.

2 Corintios Capítulo 10 Versículos 9 - 12
•En un sentido es tonto medirse a sí mismo comparándose con los demás. Una de las defensas más débiles que puedes oír cuando hablas con alguien sobre algún tipo de pecado en su vida es, "Bueno, al menos..." ¿Al menos qué? "¡Bueno, al menos no soy un asesino!" ¡Felicidades! Es un pensamiento y una declaración estúpida porque en el fondo, busca una excusa para el pecado en lugar de alejarse de él.
•También es tonto medirse a sí mismo puramente contra los demás porque en primer lugar estás limitado... sólo estás cerca de quien estás cerca... y podría ser que tal vez la compañía preaente, o tu familia, o tus compañeros de trabajo no ponen exactamente el listón muy alto. Piénsalo de esta manera... no sería un cumplido ser llamado la persona más espiritual de Corinto!
•Otra razón es que nadie es tú... Mira, saca la bondad de la bondad de los demás. Los mentores son muy importantes. La gente a la que admiras... aprendes de... aspiras a ser más como... y no podríamos hacer ninguna de esas cosas si no nos midiéramos de alguna manera con ellos... pero recuerda, no eres ellos y no se supone que seas ellos. Se supone que eres tú... te lo prometo, no hay ninguna escala en el cielo que diga que Billy Graham o Chuck Smith o Greg Laurie en la que tengas que pararte para ver si eres lo suficientemente digno. Mi verdadera vara medidora es la Palabra de Dios, y realmente eso es todo...

2 Corintios Capítulo 10 Versículos 13 – 18
•Mira Jeremías 9:23-24 que es lo que Pablo está citando aquí... Al final, después de que todo esté dicho y hecho, todo el ruido se ha ido y todo se revela, no importará lo que tú o yo digamos sobre nuestros propios logros. Todo lo que importará es lo que Dios diga de nosotros... eso es todo lo que se escuchará... eso es todo lo que perdurará.
•Así que, ten la autoridad, el poder, el intelecto, los recursos, el trabajo, la familia, el entendimiento, ten las cosas que Dios te ha dado... pero no te gloríes en ellas. Alardea en ellas para ponerte a ti mismo en lo alto. Si haces eso, no disfrutarás nada de ello... pero glorificarte en el Señor... esa es la clave para usar lo que Dios te ha dado apropiadamente... esa es la clave para construir a otros... esa es realmente la clave para disfrutarlos y tenerlos en vez de que ellos te tengan a ti.
•Y aquí está lo maravilloso de glorificarse en el Señor. No importa si tienes mucho o tienes poco, nadie está tan alto que no pueda glorificarse en el Señor y nadie está tan bajo que no pueda glorificarse en el Señor... todos podemos y en eso nos ponemos todos en igualdad de condiciones... y eso es muy agradable para el Señor. ¿Por qué? ¡Porque Él dio su vida por igual por todos nosotros!
