1 Peter 4 vs 1-11

1 Peter Chapter 4 Verses 1 – 2
•I really like the translator’s choice of English word here in the use of the word, “arm.” Speaking of Jesus’ willingness to suffer, to give of Himself and set aside the flesh, Peter says for us to follow Him in that is to arm ourselves against sin in our lives. The word literally means, “to equip with weaponry,” and it’s a word that is only used this one time in all of scripture.
•Awesome thought, awesome truth, awesome translation, awesome word…and, if we can get there in understanding, extremely awesome benefit. To deny the flesh, take up our own cross and follow Him, is to upgrade our spiritual armament in our heart of hearts such that we might have the wisdom to walk in the Spirit and not fall into sin.
•Why awesome benefit? John 6:63, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.” So many, too many, one Christian is too many, are living and yet not alive. Why? No strength of wisdom to learn what righteousness is and pursue it/Him by warring with the flesh. Romans 8:6, “To be carnally minded (given to the things of the flesh) is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
•It comes down to this, many of us are defeated in our battle against sin, many homes defeated, many marriages defeated, many ministries defeated, many living in a mindset of defeat (which looks like anger, lust, wrath, critical disposition, even sadness and depression) because we refuse to sacrifice anything in battle. We only want victory if it’s handed to us but if it means we have to learn, change, give up of ourselves, we become unwilling.
•One of the greatest tricks of the enemy…by feeding your flesh, you strengthen it…and as you strengthen in the flesh, you weaken in the Spirit such that you disarm yourself against sin and become subject to profitlessness (John 6), and patterns of destruction (Romans 8).
•Not for me, not for you…we should be profitable, profiting and profit makers in everything! Upgraders, bringing and originating the goodness and joy and light in a circumstance, place, person-group or situation! Bring life where life is struggling…why? Because we are Christians! Ambassadors of Jesus Christ and citizens of heaven. How? Being willing to suffer in our own flesh and sacrifice our own junk on the altar of wisdom and worship unto the One who did that for us…
1 Peter Chapter 4 Verses 3 – 6
•If Galatians 5 lists the fruit of the Spirit, what to watch for in order to identify if your life is bearing fruit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control), 1 Peter 4 lists the fruit of the flesh, what to watch for in order to identify if your life is marked by profitlessness and destructive cycles. And the first up is lewdness.
•Really this is the sum of them all. Lewdness is having no personal restraint towards indulgence of spiritual indecency. Totally a heart thing. In the flesh and doing nothing about it, even justifying it or celebrating it. Up next, naturally, lusts. Line crossing in terms of flesh. Drunkenness and revelries. A revelry in simple terms is being unlike Christ and parading it about in your life. Drinking parties and abominable idolatries.
•These are against the fruit of the Spirit and should be in the rearview mirror of all Christians. And actually, no problem! Pursue Jesus and arm-up in the Spirit and this stuff just stops anyway… Life stops flooding with dissipation, and that just means waste…and begins to flood with…the opposite of waste…profit!
•Now, verse 6 is used by some groups and cults as a proof text that faith and salvation are somehow possible after death however that is simply not correct. Hebrews 9:27 clearly states, “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” So, what’s going on here?
•You need to understand…before Jesus paid the price of atonement for all sin upon the cross, when a person died in faith, being saved by grace from the penalty of sin through faith in God’s (to be) provided Savior, at the point of death they were taken to a place called Abraham’s Bay or Abraham’s Bosom. This is the “Paradise” that Jesus spoke about when He turned to the thief on the cross next to Him and said, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
•Abraham’s Bay can be read of in Luke Chapter 16 as a place of mercy and comfort, but it was also a place of waiting. Waiting for the Christ to make atonement for the sin of the world. Once Jesus died on the cross, we know He didn’t go to heaven. Mary comes to Him on the third day after He had risen and He says to her, “Do not cling to Me for I have not yet ascended to My Father.” So where did He and that thief go? Well, the answer is this place of Paradise or Abraham’s Bay which according to Luke 16 was a set apart compartment of Hell that was not Hellish at all.
•So, Jesus gives up His Spirit and according to Ephesians 4:9, He “first descended into the lower parts of the earth.” For what cause? 1 Peter Chapter 4 verse 6, to “preach the gospel to those who are dead.” Why? Aren’t they already saved? Yes! The word here in the Greek is the key. The word used in verse 6 is “euangelizo,” it is essentially where we get our word “evangelize” from and it means to bring good tidings or to declare good tidings! Jesus when to bring the great news that sin has finally been dealt with and they were at that point, free to go to the Father.
•Ephesians 4:7-8, “To each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore, He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.” Ok, so then what was going on back in the previous chapter in verse 19 where we read, “By whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison?” Glad you asked…again, the key is in the word.
•Completely and totally different word used than what we have in chapter 4. In chapter 3 the word used is “kerysso,” which literally means to proclaim or make a proclamation or openly issue a statement that must be listened to and obeyed. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 2:15-16, “For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life.” And so, what we have in chapter 3 is a proclamation of Jesus is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and every knee will indeed bow, it is a message of ultimate defeat…and in chapter 4 we have a message of ultimate victory that the war is over and its time to go home. One preached in the abyss and one preached in Abraham’s Bay.
Luke Chapter 4 Verses 7 – 8
•From the time of the apostles until today, we have been in a moment of grace while life continues but truly, we live in the expectation of the imminent return of Christ. Or, we should live in the expectation of not another minute of our own individual lives is promised to us. Living with this correct perception of reality (because that is what it is in either circumstance) has a purifying affect on our minds and hearts. We don’t waste so much time with things that don’t matter like anger, hate, criticality of others and the such like…
•And Peter encourages us, God commands us, to above anything else…if you get anything right, get this right…have fervent love for one another. Because it is love that overcomes, defeats, takes the sting out of sin…heals things. This word for fervent, hard to understand, not a word we use very often...it literally means “stretched out.” Take whatever love you have and stretch it out!
•How? Take care of each other and attack grumbling in your heart of hearts. That’s the next verse…
Luke Chapter 4 Verse 9
•Do you want to be happy? Feel good about life and yourself? Do you want to find joy in your faith and not just challenge after challenge? Life is a beast and then you die…? Is that what you want your life to be? Do you want to find life is a gift and then you live!? Take care of each other. Be hospitable, Peter says… Be a hospital of care and healing for one another…and quit your self-focused, self-protective, self-centered grumbling against so many things. Attack grumbling.
•It takes 21 days to cement a habit. For the next 21 days, whenever you begin to grumble, just say SUS. “Shut up self!” And see after 21 days if you wanna have a pity party to make up for the last three weeks or if you feel a lot better about the whole thing…
Luke Chapter 4 Verses 10 – 11
•Be in prayer. Verse 7. Walk with the Lord and get into a right and close relationship with God through the grace of Jesus Christ. And then take care of the people around that have been entrusted to you. Attack grumbling. It’s just there to take your joy, and make you take for granted the gifts God has given you! Use your gifts and talents and heart’s desires to bless your family, your workplaces, your church and your neighbors.
•Speak life and build people up. Encourage and love on them with your words and check in on them with care. Talk less about yourself and more about them. Minister to one another and shore up the wounds that others have inflicted…and in that, God will be glorified who actually is glorified already.
•Which means, the real Jesus Christ will show up in your life and through your life to this dark and hurting world… You’ll be armed, equipped with weapons of righteousness, happiness, joy, peace, purpose and power…and even if living for the Lord and living as a superhero saint causes you to suffer personally, being in the will of God, you will receive the comfort and approval and close communication of God…which is my/your foundational need in the first place.

1 Pedro Capítulo 4 Versículos 1– 2
· Me gusta mucho la elección de la palabra inglesa por parte del traductor aquí en el uso de la palabra "brazo". Hablando de la disposición de Jesús a sufrir, a dar de sí mismo y a dejar de lado la carne, Pedro dice que lo sigamos en eso es armarnos contra el pecado en nuestras vidas. La palabra literalmente significa "equiparse con armamento", y es una palabra que solo se usa esta vez en todas las Escrituras.
· Pensamiento impresionante, verdad impresionante, traducción impresionante, palabra increíble ... y, si podemos llegar allí en comprensión, un beneficio extremadamente impresionante. Negar la carne, tomar nuestra propia cruz y seguirlo, es mejorar nuestro armamento espiritual en nuestro corazón de corazones para que podamos tener la sabiduría de caminar en el Espíritu y no caer en el pecado.
· ¿Por qué un beneficio increíble? Juan 6:63, "Es el Espíritu quien da vida; la carne no gana nada". Tantos, demasiados, un cristiano es demasiado, está vivo y sin embargo no está vivo. ¿Por qué? · Todo se reduce a esto, muchos de nosotros somos derrotados en nuestra batalla contra el pecado, muchos hogares derrotados, muchos matrimonios derrotados, muchos ministerios derrotados, muchos viviendo en una mentalidad de derrota (que parece enojo, lujuria, ira, disposición crítica, incluso tristeza y depresión) porque nos negamos a sacrificar nada en la batalla. Solo queremos la victoria si se nos entrega, pero si eso significa que tenemos que aprender, cambiar, renunciar a nosotros mismos, no estamos dispuestos.
· Uno de los mayores trucos del enemigo... alimentando tu carne, la fortaleces... y a medida que te fortaleces en la carne, te debilitas en el Espíritu de tal manera que te desarmas contra el pecado y te sometes a la falta de provecho (Juan 6) y a los patrones de destrucción (Romanos 8).
· No para mí, no para ti... ¡debemos ser productivos, lucrativos y productivos en todo! Mejoradores, trayendo y originando la bondad, el gozo y la luz en una circunstancia, lugar, persona-grupo o ¡situación! Trae vida donde la vida está luchando... ¿por qué? ¡Porque somos cristianos! Embajadores de Jesucristo y ciudadanos del cielo. ¿Cómo? Estar dispuestos a sufrir en nuestra propia carne y sacrificar nuestra propia basura en el altar de la sabiduría y la adoración a Aquel que hizo eso por nosotros...

1 Pedro Capítulo 4 Versículos 3– 6
· Si Gálatas 5 enumera el fruto del Espíritu, qué debes tener en cuenta para identificar si tu vida está dando fruto (amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, amabilidad, bondad, fidelidad, mansedumbre, control propio), 1 Pedro 4 enumera el fruto de la carne, qué debes tener en cuenta para identificar si tu vida está marcada por la ganancia y los ciclos destructivos. Y la primera es la lascivia.
· Realmente esta es la suma de todos ellos. La lascivia es no tener ninguna restricción personal hacia la indulgencia de la indecencia espiritual. Totalmente una cosa de corazón. En la carne y sin hacer nada al respecto, incluso justificándolo o celebrándolo. A continuación, naturalmente, la lujuria. Cruce de líneas en términos de carne. Embriaguez y juergas. Una juerga en términos simples es ser diferente a Cristo y desfilar en tu vida. Fiestas de bebida e idolatrías abominables.
· Estos están en contra del fruto del Espíritu y deben estar en el espejo retrovisor de todos los cristianos. Y en realidad, ¡no hay problema! Persigue a Jesús y ponte de brazos en el Espíritu y estas cosas simplemente se detienen de todos modos ... · Ahora, el versículo 6 es usado por algunos grupos y cultos como un texto de prueba de que la fe y la salvación son de alguna manera posibles después de la muerte, sin embargo, eso simplemente no es correcto. Hebreos 9:27 dice claramente: "Está designado para que los hombres mueran una vez, pero después de esto el juicio". Entonces, ¿qué está pasando aquí?
· Necesitas entender... antes de que Jesús pagara el precio de la expiación por todo pecado en la cruz, cuando una persona moría en la fe, siendo salvada por gracia de la pena del pecado a través de la fe en el Salvador (que sería) provisto por Dios, en el momento de la muerte eran llevados a un lugar llamado el Regazo de Abraham o el Seno de Abraham. Este es el "Paraíso" del que Jesús habló cuando Se volvió hacia el ladrón en la cruz junto a Él y le dijo: "Hoy estarás Conmigo en el Paraíso".
· El Regazo de Abraham se puede leer en Lucas capítulo 16 como un lugar de misericordia y consuelo, pero también era un lugar de espera. · Entonces, Jesús renuncia a Su Espíritu y de acuerdo con Efesios 4:9, Él "primero descendió a las partes más bajas de la tierra". ¿Por qué causa? 1 Pedro capítulo 4 versículo 6, para "predicar el evangelio a los muertos". ¿Por qué? ¿No son ya salvos? ¡Sí! La palabra aquí en griego es la clave. La palabra usada en el versículo 6 es "euangelizo", es esencialmente de donde obtenemos nuestra palabra "evangelizar" y significa traer buenas nuevas o declarar buenas nuevas. Jesús cuando traer la gran noticia de que el pecado finalmente ha sido tratado y ellos eran en ese punto, libres de ir al Padre.
· Efesios 4:7-8, "A cada uno de nosotros se nos dio la gracia según la medida del don de Cristo. Por lo tanto, Él dice: "Cuando ascendió a lo alto, llevó cautivo al cautiverio y dio regalos a los hombres". Bien, entonces, ¿qué estaba pasando en el capítulo anterior en el versículo 19 donde leemos: "¿Por quién también fue y predicó a los espíritus en prisión?" Me alegro de que hayas preguntado... de nuevo, la clave está en la palabra.
· Palabra completa y totalmente diferente a la que tenemos en el capítulo 4. En el capítulo 3 la palabra utilizada es "kerysso", que literalmente significa proclamar o hacer una proclamación o emitir abiertamente una declaración que debe ser escuchada y obedecida. Pablo escribió en 2 Corintios 2:15-16, "Porque somos para Dios la fragancia de Cristo entre los que están siendo salvos y entre los que están pereciendo. Al que somos el aroma de la muerte que conduce a la muerte, y al otro el aroma de la vida que conduce a la vida". Y así, lo que tenemos en el capítulo 3 es una proclamación de jesús es el Rey de Reyes y el Señor de Señores y cada rodilla se doblará, es un mensaje de derrota final ... y en el capítulo 4 tenemos un mensaje de victoria final de que la guerra ha terminado y es hora de volver a casa. Uno predicó en el abismo y otro predicó en el Regazo de Abraham.
Lucas Capítulo 4 Versículos 7 – 8
· Desde el tiempo de los apóstoles hasta hoy, hemos estado en un momento de gracia mientras la vida continúa, pero en verdad, vivimos en la expectativa del inminente regreso de Cristo. O bien, debemos vivir en la expectativa de que no se nos prometa ni un minuto más de nuestras propias vidas individuales. Vivir con esta percepción correcta de la realidad (porque eso es lo que es en cualquier circunstancia) tiene un efecto purificador en nuestras mentes y corazones. No perdemos tanto tiempo con cosas que no importan como la ira, el odio, la criticidad de los demás y cosas por el estilo...
· Y Pedro nos anima, Dios nos manda, a superar cualquier otra cosa... si haces algo bien, comprende esto bien... tengan un amor ferviente el uno por el otro. Porque es el amor el que vence, derrota, quita el aguijón del pecado... cura las cosas.
Esta palabra para ferviente, difícil de entender, no es una palabra que usamos muy a menudo ... literalmente significa "estirado". ¡Toma cualquier amor que tengas y estíralo!
· ¿Cómo? Cuídense unos a otros y ataquen el quejarse en su corazón de corazones. Ese es el siguiente versículo...
Lucas Capítulo 4 Versículo 9
· ¿Quieres ser feliz? ¿Te sientes bien con la vida y contigo mismo? ¿Quieres encontrar gozo en tu fe y no solo desafío tras desafío? ¿La vida es una bestia y luego mueres...? ¿Es eso lo que quieres que sea tu vida? ¿Quieres encontrar que la vida es un regalo y luego vivir!? Cuídense unos a otros. Sé hospitalario, dice Pedro... Sean un hospital de cuidado y curación para los demás... y deja de refunfuñar contra tantas cosas, egoprotector y egocéntrica. Ataca el deseo de estarte quejando.
· Se necesitan 21 días para cimentar un hábito. Durante los próximos 21 días, cada vez que comiences a quejarte, solo di SUS. (Shut up self)"¡Cállate!" Y mira después de 21 días si quieres tener una fiesta de lástima para compensar las últimas tres semanas o si te sientes mucho mejor con todo el asunto ...
Lucas Capítulo 4 Versículos 10– 11
· Estén en oración. Versículo 7. Camina con el Señor y entra en una relación correcta y cercana con Dios a través de la gracia de Jesucristo. Y luego cuida de las personas a tu alrededor que te han sido confiadas. Ataca el estarte quejando. ¡Está ahí para tomar tu alegría y hacerte dar por sentado los dones que Dios te ha dado! Use sus dones, talentos y los deseos del corazón para bendecir a su familia, sus lugares de trabajo, su iglesia y sus vecinos.
· Habla de la vida y edifica a la gente. Anímelos y ámalos con tus palabras y muéstrate ante ellos con amabilidad y con cuidado. Habla menos de ti y más de ellos. Ministrarse unos a otros y has las heridas que otros han infligido menos dolorosas... y en eso, Dios será glorificado que en realidad ya es glorificado.
· Lo que significa que el verdadero Jesucristo aparecerá en tu vida y a través de tu vida a este mundo oscuro y herido... Estarás armado, equipado con armas de justicia, felicidad, alegría, paz, propósito y poder... e incluso si vivir para el Señor y vivir como un santo superhéroe te hace sufrir personalmente, estando en la voluntad de Dios, recibirás el consuelo y la aprobación y la estrecha comunicación de Dios ... que es mi /tu necesidad fundamental en primer lugar.
