1 Peter 2 vs 11-17

1 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 11
•This is an interesting statement that may get glossed over very easily but really really shouldn’t! Paul said in Galatians 5:17 a statement that most are familiar with and that you may think is exactly what Peter is saying here but its not. Paul said in Galatians, “For the flesh lusts against the spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another.” Entirely true and eternally profitable to process and understand…but also entirely different than what Peter says here… and in an ultra-important way.
•Peter’s statement concerns the soul, not the Spirit. Paul was talking about the Spirit of God within you, always convicting of truth and righteousness…ok, everyday vernacular, always trying to lead you to life and out of serving the flesh! But Peter says here that walking in the flesh, serving the flesh, wars against your soul.
•Folks don’t realize this because as the process happens there’s a degradation of even awareness…but man when you reject the mind of Christ and embrace the self-serving of the flesh, it chips away at your joy, your inner peace and ultimately does work to corrupt who you are! I know this first-hand… You lost your personality, or probably better said, it mutates from perhaps funny, happy, enjoying people, things and life to dark, critical, dissatisfied…why? Peter lets us in on a secret here, because of the flesh!
•And so, he straight up BEGS! This is the man who had no problem…that day when Jesus told them to cast the net on the other side of the boat and the net filled with fish. Peter jumped in the water and swam to Jesus while the others in the boat hauled in the catch. Then they get close to the shore and Peter looks back, wades into the water, takes the net from the group of men and hauls it in himself! This is the man that had no fear or problem taking on the entire Roman army in the Garden of Gethsemane. Gladiator style! And this man lowers himself to a position of begging. This is big!
•How huge is this that he would go to these lengths? You gotta do this for you, he can’t do it and no one else can do it…for your own self, your own life, your own mind and who you are…abstain – hold back out of your own free will – from the lust of the flesh! And what does that look like?
1 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 12
•Be a bullet-proof honorable person. How? Books and volumes have been written on this… “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” “Becoming a King,” “Why Honor Matters,” thousands of books. However, super simple…the answer is verse 17. To be an honorable person, honor the Lord and all people. And that is the suit of armor against fleshly lusts…and that is the front line fortification against the enemy taking out your soul!
•Difficult ask, right? Because in truth, many are just simply without honor, not honorable…nothing worthy of honor. But the word actually also means to value…value what? Perhaps the key to honoring… Peter says in the end of verse 12, well, he gives us the value statement. “They may glorify God.” That’s the value. That is the mission statement, or should be the mission statement, of the Christian.
•Christian, you ought to be honorable. And to be a person that is described as honorable, you must be honoring. Not honoring due to the person, but honoring for the purpose of bringing glory to God.
•Same word, different idea but it shouldn’t be…there is no honor without honesty. In fact, that’s the word Peter uses in verse 12 (he uses a completely different word in verse 17). Do you think in heaven you are going to dishonor anyone? Absolutely not. Why? Not because everyone else is perfect (Satan dishonored innumerable angels and God Himself and they were all perfect), but because you are now made perfect. And so, lets be honest, you and I at times dishonor others today because you are serving the lust of the flesh. Peter begs…
1 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 13 – 15
•This is a strong and clear statement that God’s will is for you and I to obey the laws of man as long as they don’t violate the Word of God. And this doesn’t just apply to governments and their officials but Peter says here, “every ordinance of man,” that you find yourself within. Your boss at work, your family structure, your homeowner’s association… The will of God is that if you won’t or can’t be obedient, then remove yourself from the ordinance. But it is never the will of God, it is always against the heart of God, for you to cause disruption, division or strife within an ordinance of man as long as that ordinance is not asking, forcing or leading you into sin.
•Why? Peter says it here… That by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men. Nothing portrays the peace of God like the peace of God. HA! And no matter what anyone can bring or hurl in terms of insult or criticisms at whatever you’re a part of, if you are at peace then hey, your conduct is honorable, and return to the previous verse set. I could say so much more on the progress that peace proliferates in a marriage, organization, place of employment and even a heart…but that’s an entire sermon for another day… Peter continues…
1 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 16
•It’s not that you are allowing anyone or anything else to control you…you’ve got to settle that for yourself. You don’t do what’s right for your marriage because your wife demands it…you do what’s right for your marriage because YOU demand it. You are free to walk in the flesh. Do and think whatever you want…but for the sake of peace, goodness, kindness, love, joy…for the sake of having God invited to and enabled to reign over your heart, life and family, to give you the life He has purposed for you, joy He has reserved for you, to give you the future of tomorrows that you adore…YOU, YOU control you.
•Any other way and a root of bitterness will grip your heart and eventually rip open the door for sin in your life. Peter says, you are free. And you are. John 8:36, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed!” But if you don’t use that freedom to make yourself an absolute soldier and slave to righteousness then that freedom will put you in a vice! When you say, I’m free…you’re right. But when you say, “I’m free to live after the flesh,” you’re dead wrong.
•Man, just have a moment of wisdom with me. What would your life look like in just 6 weeks, maybe 6 months if you made yourself an agent of LOVE and RIGHTEOUSNESS in your home? In your job? At your church? Would your life look WORSE in 6 months? Absolutely, crazily, entirely, positively NOT! If you want to find life, lose it for His sake…which means, become a bondservant of God.
•You may not know it, the enemy wants you to stay ignorant to it, but that is the happiest you could ever be. The most satisfied you could ever be. The most confident and proud of yourself you could ever be. That is the version of you you wish you could be…and it is ONLY found in taking all that freedom that you have and with it freely making your own decision to live out the next verse…
1 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 17
•THE answer. How do you preserve your own soul? Honor the Lord first and then honor all people. How do you lay a foundation for and perhaps further enhance your witness of truth in your life? Honor the Lord first and then honor all people. No matter how different or even sinful someone or some organization is, Peter says here, honor them… Isn’t that what God has done for you?
•Didn’t He show you great honor by taking the beating and brutality of the cross? Didn’t He show you great honor maybe even this week that even though you were a knucklehead, He still loved and provided for you even that moment or day? We need to get out of the vice of being a living excuse and engage in the life that God has saved us unto by being a living example of God’s grace, His love and His honor!

1 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículo 11
· ¡Esta es una declaración interesante que puede pasarse por alto muy fácilmente, pero realmente no debería! Pablo dijo en Gálatas 5:17 una declaración con la que la mayoría está familiarizada y que usted puede pensar que es exactamente lo que Pedro está diciendo aquí, pero no lo es . Pablo dijo en Gálatas: "Porque la carne lujuria contra el espíritu, y el Espíritu contra la carne; y estos son contrarios entre sí". Totalmente verdadero y eternamente rentable de procesar y entender... pero también completamente diferente de lo que Pedro dice aquí ... y de una manera ultra importante.
· La declaración de Pedro se refiere al alma, no al Espíritu. Pablo estaba hablando del Espíritu de Dios dentro de ti, siempre convencido de la verdad y la justicia... ok, ¡vernáculo todos los días, siempre tratando de llevarte a la vida y fuera de servir a la carne! Pero Pedro dice aquí que caminar en la carne, servir a la carne, lucha contra tu alma.
· La gente no se da cuenta de esto porque a medida que ocurre el proceso hay una degradación de la conciencia ... pero el hombre cuando rechazas la mente de Cristo y abrazas el egoísmo de la carne, ¡destruye tu alegría, tu paz interior y, en última instancia, trabaja para corromper quién eres! Lo conozco de primera mano... Perdiste tu personalidad, o probablemente, mejor dicho, le muta de quizás ser divertida, feliz, poder disfrutar de las personas, las cosas y la vida a oscura, crítica, insatisfecha... ¿por qué? ¡Pedro nos deja entrar en un secreto aquí, debido a la carne!
· Y así, ¡directamente NOS SUPLICA! Este es el hombre que no tuvo ningún problema ... ese día en que Jesús les dijo que echaran la red al otro lado de la barca y la red se llenó de peces. Pedro saltó al agua y nadó hacia Jesús mientras los demás en el bote arrastraban la captura. Luego se acercan a la orilla y Pedro mira hacia atrás, se mete en el agua, toma la red del grupo de hombres y la arrastra hacia el mismo. Este es el hombre que no tuvo miedo ni problemas para enfrentarse a todo el ejército romano en el Jardín de Getsemaní. ¡Estilo gladiador! Y este hombre se rebaja a una posición de mendicidad. ¡Esto es grande!
· ¿Qué tan grande es esto que él llegaría a estos extremos? Tienes que hacer esto por ti, él no puede hacerlo y nadie más puede hacerlo ... por tu propio yo, tu propia vida, tu propia mente y quién eres... Abstenerse – abstenerse de su propia voluntad – de la lujuria de la carne! ¿Y cómo se ve eso?


1 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículo 12
· Sé una persona honorable a prueba de balas. ¿Cómo? Se han escrito libros y volúmenes sobre esto... "Cómo ganar amigos e influir en la gente", "Convertirse en rey", "Por qué el honor importa", miles de libros. Sin embargo, súper simple ... la respuesta es el versículo 17. Para ser una persona honorable, honra al Señor y a todas las personas. Y ese es el traje de armadura contra las lujurias carnales ... ¡y esa es la fortificación de primera línea contra el enemigo que te saca el alma!
· Difícil preguntar, ¿verdad? Porque en verdad, muchos simplemente no tienen honor, no son honorables ... nada digno de honor. Pero la palabra en realidad también significa valorar ... ¿valorar qué? Quizás la clave para honrar... Pedro dice al final del versículo 12, bueno, él nos da la declaración de valor. " Deben glorificar a Dios". Ese es el valor. Esa es la declaración de la misión, o debería ser la declaración de la misión, del cristiano.
· Cristiano, debes ser honorable. Y para ser una persona que se describe como honorable, debes de ser honrando, honrar a Dios en todo lo que haces y dices. No honrar debido a la persona, sino honrar con el propósito de traer gloria a Dios.
· Misma palabra, idea diferente pero no debería ser... no hay honor sin honestidad. De hecho, esa es la palabra que Pedro usa en el versículo 12 (él usa una palabra completamente diferente en el versículo 17). ¿Crees que en el cielo vas a deshonrar a alguien? Absolutamente no. ¿Por qué? No porque todos los demás sean perfectos (Satanás deshonró a innumerables ángeles y a Dios mismo y todos eran perfectos), sino porque ahora eres hecho perfecto. Y así, seamos honestos, tú y yo a veces deshonramos a los demás hoy porque estás sirviendo a la lujuria de la carne. Pedro nos suplica...
1 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 13–15
· Esta es una declaración fuerte y clara de que la voluntad de Dios es que tú y yo obedezcamos las leyes del hombre siempre y cuando no violen la Palabra de Dios. Y esto no solo se aplica a los gobiernos y sus funcionarios, sino que Pedro dice aquí, "toda ordenanza del hombre", que te encuentres dentro. Tu jefe en el trabajo, tu estructura familiar, tu asociación de propietarios... La voluntad de Dios es que si no quieres o no puedes ser obediente, entonces retírate de la ordenanza. Pero nunca es la voluntad de Dios, siempre será en contra del corazón de Dios, que usted cause interrupción, división o lucha dentro de una ordenanza del hombre, siempre y cuando esa ordenanza no lo esté pidiendo, forzando o guiándolo al pecado.
· ¿Por qué? Pedro lo dice aquí... Que haciendo el bien podáis poner a silenciar la ignorancia de los hombres necios. Nada puede aparentar o simular la paz de Dios como la paz de Dios. ¡JA! Y no importa lo que alguien pueda traer o lanzar en términos de insultos o críticas a lo que sea que seas parte de, si estás en paz, entonces oye, tu conducta es honorable y regresa al conjunto de versículos anteriores. Podría decir mucho más sobre el progreso que la paz prolifera en un matrimonio, en la organización, lugar de empleo e incluso en un corazón ... pero eso es todo un sermón para otro día... Pedro continúa...
1 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículo 16
· No es que estés permitiendo que alguien o cualquier otra cosa te controle... tienes que resolver eso por ti mismo. No haces lo correcto para tu matrimonio porque tu esposa lo exige... haces lo que es correcto para tu matrimonio porque TÚ lo exiges. Eres libre de caminar en la carne. Haz y piensa lo que quieras... sino por el bien de la paz, la bondad, la amabilidad, el amor, la alegría... por el bien de tener a Dios invitado y capacitado para reinar sobre tu corazón, vida y familia, para darte la vida que Él ha propuesto para ti, la alegría que Él ha reservado para ti, para darte el futuro de los mañanas que adoras... TÚ, TÚ te controlas.
· Cualquier otra forma y una raíz de amargura se apoderarán de tu corazón y eventualmente abrirán la puerta al pecado en tu vida. Pedro dice, eres libre. Y lo eres. Juan 8:36, "¡Por tanto, si el Hijo os hace libres, seréis verdaderamente libres!" ¡Pero si no usas esa libertad para convertirte en un soldado absoluto y esclavo de la justicia, entonces esa libertad te pondrá en un vicio! Cuando dices, soy libre ... Tienes razón. Pero cuando dices: "Soy libre de vivir según la carne", estás totalmente equivocado.
· Hombre, solo ten un momento de sabiduría conmigo. ¿Cómo sería tu vida en solo 6 semanas, tal vez 6 meses si te convirtieras en un agente de AMOR y RECTITUD en tu hogar? ¿En tu trabajo? ¿En su iglesia? ¿Tu vida se vería PEOR en 6 meses? ¡Absolutamente, locamente, enteramente, positivamente NO! Si quieres encontrar vida, piérdela por Su causa... lo que significa, conviértete en un siervo de Dios.
· Puede que no lo sepas, el enemigo quiere que permanezcas ignorante de él, pero eso es lo más feliz que podrías ser. Lo más satisfecho que puedas estar. El más seguro y orgulloso de ti mismo que puedas ser. Esa es la versión de ti que te gustaría poder ser... y SOLO se encuentra en tomar toda esa libertad que tienes y con ella tomar libremente tu propia decisión de vivir el siguiente versículo...

1 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículo 17
· LA respuesta. ¿Cómo preservas tu propia alma? Honra al Señor primero y luego honra a todas las personas. ¿Cómo sientas las bases y como quizas mejores aún más tu testimonio de la verdad en tu vida? Honra al Señor primero y luego honra a todas las personas. No importa cuán diferente o incluso pecaminoso sea alguien o alguna organización, Pedro dice aquí, honradlos... ¿No es eso lo que Dios ha hecho por ti?
· ¿No te mostró gran honor al recibir la paliza y la brutalidad de la cruz? ¿No te mostró un gran honor tal vez incluso esta semana que a pesar de que eras un nudillo, Él todavía te amaba y proveía incluso en ese momento o día? ¡Necesitamos salir del vicio de ser una excusa viva y comprometernos en la vida para la que Dios nos ha salvado al ser un ejemplo vivo de la gracia de Dios, Su amor y Su honor!
