1 Peter 2 vs 18-25

1 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 18a
•The exhortation of Peter for servants to be submissive to their masters is a continuation of the previous statements. Previously in this chapter, Peter begs us, his readers, Christians to be honorable people! Submitting ourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake….
•And you MUST consider, as we covered last time we studied this text, it’s not that you are allowing anyone or anything else to control you…you’ve got to settle that for yourself. That’s not what we do or who we are. We are not remote-controlled passive agreeable door mat robots. No one can be commanded to live out verse 17. “Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the King.” Anyone doing any of things because they’ve been told to aren’t really doing those things…
•You don’t do what’s right for your marriage, loving your wife as Christ loved the church, because your wife demands it… That doesn’t even work. Not even possible! You do what’s right for your marriage because YOU demand it.
•You are free to walk in the flesh. Do and think whatever you want…but for the sake of peace, goodness, kindness, love, joy…for the sake of thanking God for eternal life and giving His own life…and for the sake of believing God right into the life He has purposed for you, joy He has reserved for you, the future of tomorrows that you adore…YOU, YOU control you.
•Any other way and a root of bitterness will grip your heart and eventually rip open the door for sin in your life. Peter says, you are free. And you are. John 8:36, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed!” But if you don’t use that freedom to make yourself an absolute soldier and slave to righteousness then that freedom will put you in a vice! When you say, I’m free…you’re right. But when you say, “I’m free to live after the flesh,” you’re dead wrong. Precisely why “Hyper Calvinism” has shipwrecked so many in the faith.
•Man, just have a moment of wisdom with me. What would your life look like in just 6 weeks, maybe 6 months if you made yourself an agent of HONOR in your home? In your job? At your church? Would your life look WORSE in 6 months? Absolutely, crazily, entirely, positively NOT! If you want to find life, lose it for His sake…which means, become a bondservant of God.
•You may not know it, the enemy wants you to stay ignorant to it, but that is the happiest you could ever be. The most satisfied you could ever be. The most confident and proud of yourself you could ever be. That is the version of you you wish you could be…and it is ONLY found in taking all that freedom that you have and with it freely making your own decision to live an honorable life…
•And that includes being a servant, being honorably supportive (sounds better than submissive), and that includes having masters. This is just part of the Christian life and virtues that are to be found in a Christian. Why? Because everyone is better than you and you are a weakling follower. Hmmmm. Let’s review.
•Jesus stood up from the throne of thrones. The Creator of all things and the Lord of all. And He stepped into His own creation to seek out and to save the lost. Philippians 2:8 says, “Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” The One who is rightly served by all others, by His own will, became a Servant.
•Obedient to His own creation. Submissive to His parents, His accusers, His betrayers, His earthly masters. Was everyone better than Jesus, the weakling follower? Incredibly not. But to honor the Father and to achieve the work of love and eternal life for you and for me, He did the hero’s job. Honorable among all. He laid down His life for me and for you.
•You see, Peter knows this, some of you know this, the enemy does not want you to figure this out…the most honorable version of you possible is the version of you that honors Jesus. Therefore, follow Him…, “Servants be submission to your masters.” That word “servant” is not slave, doulos, bondservant, employee, or waiter…it means household-worker.
•Who is my master? Anyone God has given me in my universe of responsibility. From my wife, to my children, to my professional colleagues, to my church. Each and everyone of them, good or bad, nice or mean, harsh or gentle, are members of my life household. And as a Christian, walking in the fellowship of the Spirit of God, the Lord commands me to trust and follow Him and submit to them.
•No groveling, no pledging allegiance, no belittling my own importance…has nothing to do with that…I am to be honorably supportive to them all. Defaulting to wanting to do what is right and good for them. SUPER SUPER EASY when they are wonderful to me…but here comes the difference between the Christian and the world… Here comes the only reason why serving those around you brings honor to God…
1 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 18b – 21
•What makes us any different than the world? To suffer consequence or be punished for our wrongs is common. But Jesus introduced difference. The world, overtaken in self-service and sin was disrupted by God’s heart of grace and power…and the defining proof of a life that has received God’s grace is that grace flows. Why? For conscience’s sake towards God. What does that even mean!?
•That I am conscious of Him! What He did for me! His power and promise to defend. His power and promise to reward. His power to work and do the things and correct the things that I really have no control over…all I can do is lose patience. And so, grief comes and its my fault and I repent and flow grace. And grief comes and its not my fault and I trust the Lord and flow grace. And Peter writes, “To this you were called.”
•What am I called to do? I have gotten that question countless times from countless people. Here’s the answer. When you do what is good and yet you suffer, but in strength of faithfulness and bond with God, through His grace, you take it patiently, well, then God is seeing Himself in His child. Isn’t that something you love so much with your kiddos?
•Peter says that is commendable before God…not by God…because what can He commend? But the angels, the saints, the church and even the unholy host trying to rip you off…commendable by them! Bringing glory to God!
•What we just read, is MOST contrary to our nature…and therefore it is proof that God is in control of your heart, mind, soul and strength which is something that He cannot take…but only we can give to Him. This is why it pleases Him so…
•And check this out, being contrary to our flesh, walking in this grace is the most effective means, not Bible study, not service towards others, not prayer, not ministry, this work in your heart of hearts is the most effective means by which a person is conformed into the glorious image of Jesus Christ…
1 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 22 – 23
•I don’t judge righteously. In what context? In what situation? In what circumstance? Where? At work? At church? At home? YES. I don’t have perfect knowledge at any moment of any situation or place in my life and so my judgement will always be flawed. That doesn’t mean I should never judge, but that does mean my first action should be to seek the heart of God on the matter. He is trustworthy. He loves me perfectly. He has all perfect knowledge and has never once failed…
1 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 24 – 25
•If you’re healed, live for righteousness! Seek after it like a prize. It is the life that you have been set free unto! Sheep are always astray without a shepherd. Always. And one thing to consider and remember through the powerful example of Jesus is that your suffering for righteousness sake will accomplish MUCH! Look at what it accomplished for Jesus!?
•I love that He is the “Overseer” of my soul. He wants the chance to be held responsible for me. But only you can give God that for you and only I can give that for me. But that’s the role He is willing to take and His desire is to show Himself faithful in your life.

· La exhortación de Pedro para que los siervos sean sumisos a sus amos es una continuación de las declaraciones anteriores. ¡Anteriormente en este capítulo, Pedro nos ruega a nosotros, sus lectores, ¡cristianos que seamos personas honorables! Sometiéndonos a toda ordenanza del hombre por causa del Señor...
· Y DEBES considerar, como cubrimos la última vez que estudiamos este texto, no es que estés permitiendo que alguien o cualquier otra cosa te controle ... tienes que resolver eso por ti mismo. Eso no es lo que hacemos ni lo que somos. No somos robots de alfombrilla pasivos agradables a control remoto. A nadie se le puede ordenar que viva el versículo 17. "Honra a todas las personas. Ama a la hermandad. Temed a Dios. Honra al Rey". Cualquiera que haga alguna de las cosas porque se le han dicho realmente No está haciendo esas cosas ...
· No haces lo correcto para tu matrimonio, amando a tu esposa como Cristo amó a la iglesia, porque tu esposa lo exige... Eso ni siquiera funciona. ¡Ni siquiera es posible! Haces lo que es correcto para tu matrimonio porque TÚ lo exiges.
· Eres libre de caminar en la carne. Haz y piensa lo que quieras... sino por el bien de la paz, la bondad, la bondad, el amor, la alegría... por el bien de agradecer a Dios por la vida eterna y dar Su propia vida... y por el bien de creer a Dios justo en la vida que Él ha propuesto para ti, el gozo que Él ha reservado para ti, el futuro de los mañanas que adoras... TÚ, TÚ te controlas.
· Cualquier otra forma y una raíz de amargura se apoderarán de tu corazón y eventualmente abrirán la puerta al pecado en tu vida. Pedro dice, eres libre. Y tú eres. Juan 8:36, "¡Por tanto, si el Hijo os hace libres, seréis verdaderamente libres!" ¡Pero si no usas esa libertad para convertirte en un soldado absoluto y esclavo de la justicia, entonces esa libertad te pondrá en un vicio! Cuando dices, soy libre ... Tienes razón. Pero cuando dices: "Soy libre de vivir según la carne", estás completamente equivocado. Precisamente por qué el "hipercalvinismo" ha naufragado a tantos en la fe.
· Hombre, solo ten un momento de sabiduría conmigo. ¿Cómo sería tu vida en solo 6 semanas, tal vez 6 meses si te convirtieras en un agente de HONOR en tu hogar? ¿En tu trabajo? ¿En su iglesia? ¿Tu vida se vería PEOR en 6 meses? ¡Absolutamente, locamente, enteramente, positivamente NO! Si quieres encontrar vida, piérdela por Su causa... lo que significa, conviértete en un siervo de Dios.
· Puede que no lo sepas, el enemigo quiere que permanezcas ignorante de ello, pero eso es lo más feliz que podrías ser. El más satisfecho que puedas estar. El más seguro y orgulloso de ti mismo que puedas ser. Esa es la versión de ti que te gustaría poder ser... y SOLO se encuentra en tomar toda esa libertad que tienes y con ella tomar libremente tu propia decisión de vivir una vida honorable ...
· Y eso incluye ser un sirviente, ser honorablemente solidario (suena mejor que sumiso), y eso incluye tener amos. Esto es sólo una parte de la vida cristiana y las virtudes que se encuentran en un cristiano. ¿Por qué? Porque todos son mejores que tú y eres un seguidor débil. Hmmmm. Repasemos.
· Jesús se levantó del trono de tronos. El Creador de todas las cosas y el Señor de todas. Y Él entró en Su propia creación para buscar y salvar a los perdidos. Filipenses 2:8 dice: "Al ser encontrado en apariencia como hombre, se humilló a sí mismo y se hizo obediente hasta el punto de la muerte, incluso la muerte de la cruz". Aquel que es servido correctamente por todos los demás, por Su propia voluntad, se convirtió en un Siervo.
· Obediente a Su propia creación. Sumiso a Sus padres, a Sus acusadores, a Sus traidores, a Sus amos terrenales. ¿Era todo el mundo mejor que Jesús, el seguidor débil? Increíblemente no. Pero para honrar al Padre y lograr la obra de amor y vida eterna para ti y para mí, Él hizo el trabajo del héroe. Honorable entre todos. Él dio su vida por mí y por ti.
· Verás, Pedro sabe esto, algunos de ustedes lo saben, el enemigo no quiere que se den cuenta de esto ... la versión más honorable de ti posible es la versión de ti que honra a Jesús. Por lo tanto, síguelo..., "Siervos sean sumisión a tus amos". Esa palabra "sirviente" no es esclavo, doulos, siervo, empleado o camarero... significa empleado/a doméstico/a.
· ¿Quién es mi maestro? Cualquiera que Dios me haya dado en mi universo de responsabilidad. Desde mi esposa, a mis hijos, a mis colegas profesionales, a mi iglesia. Todos y cada uno de ellos, buenos o malos, agradables o malos, duros o gentiles, son miembros de mi hogar de vida. Y como cristiano, caminando en la comunión del Espíritu de Dios, el Señor me ordena confiar y seguirlo y someterme a ellos.
· Sin soberbias, sin prometer lealtad, sin menospreciar mi propia importancia... no tiene nada que ver con eso... Debo ser honorablemente cooperativo y apoyar. Queriendo hacer automáticamente lo que es correcto y bueno para ellos. SUPER SUPER FÁCIL cuando son maravillosos para mí... pero aquí viene la diferencia entre el cristiano y el mundo... Aquí viene la única razón por la que servir a los que te rodean trae honor a Dios ...
1 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 18b – 21
· ¿Qué nos hace diferentes al mundo? Sufrir consecuencias o ser castigados por nuestros errores es común. Pero Jesús introdujo la diferencia. El mundo, superado en el autoservicio y el pecado fue interrumpido por el corazón de gracia y poder de Dios... y la prueba definitoria de una vida que ha recibido la gracia de Dios es que la gracia fluye. ¿Por qué? Por el bien de la conciencia hacia Dios. ¿¡Qué significa eso!?
· ¡Que soy consciente de Él! ¡Lo que Él hizo por mí! Su poder y promesa de defender. Su poder y promesa de recompensa. Su poder para trabajar y hacer las cosas y corregir las cosas sobre las que realmente no tengo control ... todo lo que puedo hacer es perder la paciencia. Y así, el dolor viene y es mi culpa y me arrepiento y fluyo la gracia. Y el dolor viene y no es mi culpa y confío en el Señor y fluyo la gracia. Y Pedro escribe: "A esto fuiste llamado".
· ¿Qué estoy llamado a hacer? He recibido esa pregunta innumerables veces de innumerables personas. Aquí está la respuesta. Cuando haces lo que es bueno y, sin embargo, sufres, pero en fuerza de fidelidad y vínculo con Dios, a través de Su gracia, lo tomas con paciencia, bueno, entonces Dios se está viendo a Sí mismo en Su hijo. ¿No es eso algo que amas tanto con tus hijos?
· Pedro dice que eso es algo que se debe comendar ante Dios... no por Dios... porque ¿qué puede El comendar? Pero a los ángeles, los santos, la iglesia e incluso la hueste profana tratando de estafarte... ¡Encomendado por ellos! ¡Trayendo gloria a Dios!
· Lo que acabamos de leer, es MÁS contrario a nuestra naturaleza... y por lo tanto es la prueba de que Dios está en control de tu corazón, mente, alma y fuerza, que es algo que Él no puede tomar... pero sólo nosotros podemos darle a Él. Por eso a Él le agrada tanto...
· Y revisa esto, siendo contrario a nuestra carne, caminar en esta gracia es el medio más efectivo, no el estudio de la Biblia, no el servicio a los demás, no la oración, no el ministerio, esta obra en tu corazón de corazones es el medio más efectivo por el cual una persona se conforma a la imagen gloriosa de Jesucristo ...
1 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 22– 23
· No juzgo con rectitud. ¿En qué contexto? ¿En qué situación? ¿En qué circunstancia? ¿Dónde? ¿En el trabajo? ¿En la iglesia? ¿En casa? SÍ. No tengo un conocimiento perfecto en ningún momento de ninguna situación o lugar en mi vida, por lo que mi juicio siempre será defectuoso. Eso no significa que nunca deba juzgar, pero sí significa que mi primera acción debe ser buscar el corazón de Dios sobre el
asunto. Él es digno de confianza. Me ama perfectamente. Él tiene todo el conocimiento perfecto y nunca ha fallado una vez ...
1 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 24– 25
· Si eres sanado, ¡vive para la justicia! Búscalo como un premio. ¡Es la vida para la que has sido liberado! Las ovejas siempre están descarriadas sin un pastor. Siempre. ¡Y una cosa a considerar y recordar a través del poderoso ejemplo de Jesús es que tu sufrimiento por justicia logrará MUCHO! ¡Mira lo que logró para Jesús!
· Me encanta que Él es el "Supervisor" de mi alma. Él quiere la oportunidad de ser considerado responsable de mí. Pero solo tú puedes darle a Dios eso por ti y solo yo puedo dar eso por mí. Pero ese es el papel que Él está dispuesto a tomar y Su deseo es mostrarse fiel en tu vida.
