2 Peter 1 vs 12-18

2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 12 - 15
•Peter is displaying for us some true marks of maturity and faithfulness…, (what he just spoke about in the previous verses), …and if you’re not careful, you can miss that. First, look at these statements; “I will not be negligent.” “I think it is right.” “I will be careful to ensure.” These are statements of great strength and great purpose and great deliberation… honestly great wisdom and understanding also… Statements only those who are giving all diligence can make…
•I ask myself, are these statements that I can make? That in the things that I should be faithful, can I say with confidence that I am not negligent? Am I able to take hold of who I am and what I am about and say in truth that I think it is right? Am I careful, contemplative, even strategic to ensure those around me have what they need? A good temperature check if I am striving to live for the Lord.
•And on top of that, these are statements of intense faithfulness, personal faithfulness, between Peter and Jesus. How so? Well, it goes back to one of the last things Jesus said to Peter. Before Jesus was betrayed, that night in the upper room, Jesus’ final meal amongst His disciples, He turns to Peter (and you find this in Luke 22:31-32), “The Lord said, ‘Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.’”
•Peter at that point put up a fight, “No way I would ever betray You!” But we all know how that played out. But here he is, years later, and this word used in 2 Peter 1:12 for “established,” it’s the same word Jesus used in Luke 22… Peter establishing/strengthening his brethren just as Jesus had told him to do so many years ago. He is being faithful to what Jesus has asked of him… This is perhaps one of the most personal statements of Peter found in his letters for that reason…
•And so, Peter ministers and serves with personal passion and intense love for the Lord and private faithfulness and connection between himself and Jesus…and please hear me in this…man, that’s the only way to do it! There is such a goodness there and in that…that is totally missing from a ministry that is served out of sense of religious duty or some sort of obligation…
•And Peter comments here that he must shortly put off his tent, just as Jesus showed him. What he’s talking about there is what Peter witnessed, along with James and John, directly after Jesus shared with His disciples that He would be killed but raised again to life. And Peter objected! “Never, Lord! That could never, should never happen to You!”
•But Jesus rebuked Peter and said to him yes it will and whoever wants to be one of His disciples, they too would need to, have to, be willing to, actually do this…take up their own cross, and be willing to give their life also. And right after saying that, in Matthew 16:28, Jesus makes this odd statement, “Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom.”
•The next scene recorded for us in Matthew’s and Luke’s Gospels, Jesus takes Peter, James and John with Him up to what is described for us in the Bible as a “high mountain.” That mountain remains unnamed and we don’t know exactly where or which one they were taken to but we call this mountain, because of what happens next, the Mount of Transfiguration. And what we see next is what Jesus was talking about with His odd statement and what Peter recalls for us in his letter…
•We read in Matthew 17:2, “He was transfigured before them.” The word in the Greek is “metamorphoo,” and it literally means to transform! Was Optimus Prime a Mack Truck? No! That was his unrevealed form…was Jesus simply a man capable of miraculous works? No! He was God, the Son of the Kingdom, the Creator…! It’s been said that the real miracle was not the Transfiguration but that Jesus was able to conceal His glory all of the other times…
•And so, continuing in Matthew 17, “He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.” Listen to how the Message renders this scene, “Six days later, three of them saw that glory. Jesus took Peter and the brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes. Sunlight poured from His face. His clothes were filled with light!”
•A momentary awesome revelation of the Son of man standing in His kingdom! And Peter remembers that…calling this present form, even Jesus’ Mack Truck, a tent, knowing, because he saw it, that there awaits him just as Jesus showed him, something much much better, much less temporary, without corruption or sickness…or stiffness, or soreness or arthritisis…ha!
•And just one more short thing on this verse set… Peter speaks of his own death here in the end of verse 15 but interestingly and awesomely, he doesn’t use the common word for death which in the Greek is “thantos.” Peter uses the word “exodus.” You see, what he knew, what the Bible promises, what Jesus secured for each of us by His blood, is that one day we won’t die, we will leave. We will move. And move out of this tent and into the mystery only described as a mansion by Jesus in John 14…
•Jesus said in John 11:25-26, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” Now we understand a bit better, to our hope of joy, what Jesus was talking about that day.
2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 16 - 18
•(“Excellent Glory” was perhaps the most extra word Peter could think of to use what he experienced that day. It’s a five-syllable mountain of a word in the Greek, “megaloprepes.”) This is a conversation that can only be very quite short because if you want to remain ignorant, you will…and if you want to see and know…you will. I mean it really is that simple. No one comes to faith but by faith and the definition of faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, and so if you aren’t looking for it specifically in and with hope then the fact of the matter is you simply won’t see and this absurd thought of the gospel and power and eye witness accounts and today’s life witness accounts you will call cunningly devised fables (or sophisticated myths) as the literal translation reads.
•Which, first of all, I have an issue with. Marvel Studios Avengers End Game is a sophisticated myth. A man with no home, no money, no earthly position and power, gets crucified and three days later rises from the grave proclaiming in Him is eternal life and God, rather than just buttoning this whole thing up and fixing everything in a Thanos snap chose to show that He loves us to death by lowering Himself to just that…, I’m sorry…sophisticated? Arguable…
•On top of that, if the account of Jesus, His life, death and resurrection were only a fable then by now, some 2,000 years later, by now some disastrous flaw would have been discovered to cause this whole thing to be discarded and yet there’s not a stone in this story that hasn’t been excavated, examined and scrutinized and yet the gospel, the church, the worldwide faith remains. And oh by the way, the gospel is still changing lives, saving lives, turning lives from waste to exceedingly great purpose and freedom of mind, soul, body and spirit!
•Not to mention the faithfulness of the apostles unto death, even Judas…. So yea, very very very quick discussion…
•And notice, Peter says here something striking. He says, “For He received from God the Father honor and glory,” which scripturally is either a problem or a revelation. Why? Isaiah 42:8, “I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another.” And so, we either have a disastrous problem and biblical contradiction or we have a revelation. That somehow God the Father and God the Son are One.
2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 19
•That’s where the gospel makes a difference. That’s where the Word of God makes a difference. That’s really the only place where anything is going to make a difference in anyone…. Not in the world. Not in the church. Not in your home. If it’s not rising and shining in your heart, it will make no difference in your life, family, ministry, job or situation.
•Pudding proof… Did the statement of God the Father from His Excellent Glory save or change or christianize Peter, James and John? Nope… I mean, what other sign could be stronger! What did change them? When they personally received the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit!
2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 20 – 21
•I like this to the point of loving it. Every word of every line in every verse in every chapter is discoverable and understandable by each of us because no one in here is going to get it privately. All truth is evident and can be confirmed by others.
•God has intended for His promises to be known, for truth to be understood and for each of us, that want to know, that each of us will know! How? Why? Because the Word of God is not the Word of man…given not by expertise or experience or learned knowledge, but by the Creator who coded it in the language of faith… And men of God spoke, received the understanding, got the message, eyes were opened, as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
•Moved is a nautical term… It means a sail powered and driven by the strength of the wind… Perhaps its time for you to raise yours…

2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 12 - 15
· Pedro nos está mostrando algunas verdaderas marcas de madurez y fidelidad..., (de lo que acaba de hablar en los versículos anteriores), ... y si no tienes cuidado, puedes perderte eso. Primero, mire estas declaraciones; "No seré negligente". "Creo que es correcto". "Tendré cuidado de asegurarme". Estas son declaraciones de gran fuerza y gran propósito y gran deliberación... honestamente gran sabiduría y comprensión también... Declaraciones que sólo aquellos que están dando toda la diligencia pueden hacer...
· Me pregunto, ¿son estas declaraciones las que puedo hacer? Que en las cosas que debo ser fiel, ¿puedo decir con confianza que no soy negligente? ¿Soy capaz de apoderarme de quién soy y de qué se trata y decir en verdad que creo que es correcto? ¿Soy cuidadoso, contemplativo, incluso estratégico para asegurarme de que los que me rodean tengan lo que necesitan? Un buen control de temperatura si me estoy esforzando por vivir para el Señor.
· Y además de eso, estas son declaraciones de fidelidad intensa, fidelidad personal, entre Pedro y Jesús. ¿Cómo? Bueno, se remonta a una de las últimas cosas que Jesús le dijo a Pedro. Antes de que Jesús fuera traicionado, esa noche en el aposento alto, la última comida de Jesús entre sus discípulos, se vuelve a Pedro (y esto se encuentra en Lucas 22:31-32), "El Señor dijo: '¡Simón, Simón! De hecho, Satanás ha pedido por ti, para que pueda tamizarte como trigo. Pero he orado por vosotros, para que vuestra fe no falle; y cuando hayas regresado a Mí, fortalece a tus hermanos'".
· Pedro en ese momento puso una pelea, "¡De ninguna manera te traicionaría!" Pero todos sabemos cómo se desarrolló eso. Pero aquí está, años más tarde, y esta palabra usada en 2 Pedro 1:12 para "establecido", es la misma palabra que Jesús usó en Lucas 22... Pedro estableciendo/fortaleciendo a sus hermanos tal como Jesús le había dicho que lo hiciera hace muchos años. Está siendo fiel a lo que Jesús le ha pedido... Esta es quizás una de las declaraciones más personales de Pedro que se encuentran en sus cartas por esa razón...
· Y así, Pedro ministra y sirve con pasión personal e intenso amor por el Señor y fidelidad privada y conexión entre él y Jesús... y por favor escúchame en esto... hombre, ¡esa es la única manera de hacerlo! Hay tal bondad allí y en eso ... eso está totalmente ausente de un ministerio que se sirve por sentido del deber religioso o algún tipo de obligación ...
· Y Pedro comenta aquí que pronto debe guardar su tienda, tal como Jesús le mostró. De lo que está hablando es de lo que Pedro presenció, junto con Santiago y Juan, directamente después de que Jesús compartió con Sus discípulos que Él sería asesinado pero resucitado a la vida. ¡Y Pedro se opuso! "¡Nunca, Señor! ¡Eso nunca, nunca debería sucederte a Ti!"
· Pero Jesús reprendió a Pedro y le dijo que sí, que lo haría y que quien quiera ser uno de sus discípulos, ellos también necesitarían hacerlo, tendrían que hacerlo, estarían dispuestos a hacerlo... tomen su propia cruz, y estén dispuestos a dar su vida también. Y justo después de decir eso en Mateo 16:28, Jesús hace esta extraña declaración: "Ciertamente, te digo, hay algunos parados aquí que no probarán la muerte hasta que vean venir al Hijo del Hombre en Su Reino".
· La siguiente escena grabada para nosotros en los Evangelios de Mateo y Lucas, Jesús lleva a Pedro, Santiago y Juan con Él hasta lo que se describe para nosotros en la Biblia como una "alta montaña". Esa montaña permanece sin nombre y no sabemos exactamente a dónde o a cuál fueron llevados, pero llamamos a esta montaña, debido a lo que sucede a continuación, el Monte de la Transfiguración. Y lo que vemos a continuación es de lo que Jesús estaba hablando con su extraña declaración y lo que Pedro recuerda para nosotros en su carta ...
· Leemos en Mateo 17:2, "Él fue transfigurado delante de ellos". La palabra en griego es "metamorfosis", ¡y literalmente significa transformar! ¿Era Optimus Prime un camión Mack? ¡No! Esa era su forma no revelada... ¿Era Jesús simplemente un hombre capaz de obras milagrosas? ¡No! ¡Él era Dios, el Hijo del Reino, el Creador...! Se ha dicho que el verdadero milagro no fue la Transfiguración, sino que Jesús fue capaz de ocultar Su gloria todas las otras veces...
· Y así, continuando en Mateo 17, "Él fue transfigurado delante de ellos. Su rostro brillaba como el sol, y sus ropas se volvieron tan blancas como la luz". Escuche cómo el Mensaje representa esta escena: "Seis días después, tres de ellos vieron esa gloria. Jesús tomó a Pedro y a los hermanos, Santiago y Juan, y los llevó a una montaña alta. Su apariencia cambió de adentro hacia afuera, justo ante sus ojos. La luz del sol brotaba de Su rostro. ¡Su ropa estaba llena de luz!"
· ¡Una revelación momentánea impresionante del Hijo del hombre de pie en Su reino! Y Pedro recuerda que... llamando a esta forma presente, incluso al Camión Mack de Jesús, una tienda de campaña, sabiendo, porque él lo vio, que allí le espera tal como Jesús le mostró, algo mucho mejor, mucho menos temporal, sin corrupción ni enfermedad... o rigidez, o dolor o artritis... ¡ja!
· Y solo una cosa corta más en este conjunto de versículos ... Pedro habla de su propia muerte aquí al final del versículo 15, pero de manera interesante y sorprendente, no usa la palabra común para muerte que en griego es "thantos". Pedro usa la palabra "éxodo". Verás, lo que él sabía, lo que la Biblia promete, lo que Jesús aseguró para cada uno de nosotros por Su sangre, es que un día no moriremos, nos iremos. Nos moveremos. Y sal de esta tienda y entra en el misterio que jesús solo describe como una mansión en Juan 14...
· Jesús dijo en Juan 11:25-26: "Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en Mí, aunque muera, vivirá. Y el que vive y cree en Mí, nunca morirá." Ahora entendemos un poco mejor, para nuestra esperanza de gozo, de lo que Jesús estaba hablando ese día.
2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 16 - 18
· ("Excelente gloria" fue quizás la palabra más extra que Pedro pudo pensar para usar lo que experimentó ese día. Es una montaña de cinco sílabas de una palabra en griego, "megaloprepes"). Esta es una conversación que solo puede ser muy corta porque si quieres permanecer ignorante, lo harás ... y si quieres ver y conocer... lo harás. Quiero decir que realmente es así de simple. Nadie llega a la fe, pero por fe y la definición de fe es la sustancia de las cosas que se esperan, la evidencia de cosas que no se ven, y por lo tanto, si no lo estás buscando específicamente en y con esperanza, entonces el hecho del asunto es que simplemente no verás y este pensamiento absurdo del evangelio y el poder y los relatos de testigos oculares y los relatos de testigos de la vida de hoy los llamarás fábulas astutamente ideadas (o mitos sofisticados) como dice la traducción literal.
· Con lo cual, en primer lugar, tengo un problema. Marvel Studios Avengers End Game es un mito sofisticado. Un hombre sin hogar, sin dinero, sin posición terrenal y poder, es crucificado y tres días después se levanta de la tumba proclamando en Él que esta la vida eterna y es Dios, en lugar de simplemente abotonar todo esto y arreglar todo en un chasquido de Thanos eligió mostrar que Él nos ama hasta la muerte rebajándose a eso ..., Lo siento... ¿sofisticado? Discutible...
· Además de eso, si el relato de Jesús, Su vida, muerte y resurrección fuera solo una fábula, entonces a estas alturas, unos 2,000 años después, a estas alturas se habría descubierto algún defecto desastroso para hacer que todo esto fuera descartado y, sin embargo, no hay una piedra en esta historia que no haya sido excavada, examinada y escrutada y, sin embargo, el evangelio, la iglesia, la fe mundial permanece. ¡Y oh, por cierto, el evangelio todavía está cambiando vidas, salvando vidas, convirtiendo vidas de desperdicio a un propósito extremadamente grande y libertad de mente, alma, cuerpo y espíritu!
· Y sin mencionar la fidelidad de los apóstoles hasta la muerte, incluso de Judas... Así que sí, discusión muy muy muy rápida...
· Y fíjate, Pedro dice aquí algo llamativo. Él dice: "Porque él recibió de Dios el Padre honor y gloria", lo cual bíblicamente es un problema o una revelación. ¿Por qué? Isaías 42:8, "Yo soy el Señor, ese es mi nombre; Y Mi gloria no la daré a otro." Y así, o tenemos un problema desastroso y una contradicción bíblica o tenemos una revelación. Que de alguna manera Dios el Padre y Dios el Hijo son Uno.
2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículo 19
· Ahí es donde el evangelio hace una diferencia. Ahí es donde la Palabra de Dios hace la diferencia. Ese es realmente el único lugar donde algo va a hacer una diferencia en cualquiera.... No en el mundo. No en la iglesia. No en tu casa. Si no se eleva y brilla en su corazón, no hará ninguna diferencia en su vida, familia, ministerio, trabajo o situación.
· A prueba de pudín... ¿La declaración de Dios el Padre de Su Excelente Gloria salvó o cambió o cristianizó a Pedro, Santiago y Juan? No... Quiero decir, ¡qué otro signo podría ser más fuerte! ¿Qué los cambió? ¡Cuando recibieron personalmente la presencia que mora en el Espíritu Santo!
2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 20–21
· Me gusta esto hasta el punto de amarlo. Cada palabra de cada línea en cada versículo de cada capítulo es detectable y comprensible por cada uno de nosotros porque nadie aquí lo va a obtener en privado. Toda verdad es evidente y puede ser confirmada por otros.
· ¡Dios ha querido que sus promesas sean conocidas, que la verdad sea entendida y para cada uno de nosotros, que queremos saber, que cada uno de nosotros lo sepa! ¿Cómo? ¿Por qué? Porque la Palabra de Dios no es la Palabra del hombre... dada no por la pericia o la experiencia o el conocimiento aprendido, sino por el Creador que lo codificó en el lenguaje de la fe... Y los hombres de Dios hablaron, recibieron el entendimiento, recibieron el mensaje, los ojos se abrieron, ya que fueron movidos por el Espíritu Santo.
· Movido es un término náutico... Significa una vela impulsada e impulsada por la fuerza del viento... Tal vez sea hora de que levantes el tuyo ...
