The Seed of Grace

I heard a story once about a young man that was eager to grow in his Christian life. He got a piece of paper and made a list of all the things he would do for God. He wrote down the things he would give up, the places he would stop going to and the places that he would begin to visit for ministry purposes. He was excited, energized…and that Sunday he took that list and shared it with his pastor. He thought he would feel joy but instead he somehow felt empty about it…

So, he went home and started adding to his list. He wrote down more things he would do and more things he wouldn’t do any longer. He took the longer list and shared it the next Sunday again with his pastor. He left feeling about the same. The next Sunday he asked for prayer…unsure why he wasn’t getting any traction… The pastor said to him, “Take a blank sheet of paper, sign your name at the bottom, bring that.”

Growing in the Lord is critical in the life of a Christian. If you are a Christian today, because we can’t expect growth in the Lord if you aren’t in the Lord, growth means life. It means that there is life in your faith. Not just heart-beat life but meaning, reality, purpose, even inspiration. All the things we all chase after in so many ways. And while growth is so very important, it is possible to grow improperly. In fact, the enemy would like nothing more…

What do I mean? Well, you can grow callous. You can grow cold. You can grow tired. All of those are yet growth, but improper. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:10-11, “According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Christ Jesus.”
Peter writes in 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” The courage to grow requires the courage to let go. Peter says in verse 2 of chapter 1, “Grace and peace be multiplied to you,” and then in verses 3 through 9, he charts out for us the pathway of peace, the Google Maps of grace…, “Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control,” and on… Saying that if we are on this course, if we have chosen and embarked on this direction, then we will neither be barren (ineffective) nor unfruitful (without purpose), we won’t be short-sided, we’ll have understanding, see the big picture and mature, move on from old and destructive ways, continually. Habitually and as a pattern of our lives. That is growth…

But in the middle of these two exhortations, these two teaching, Peter slips in a critical component to this entire process recipe. He says in verse 3 of 2 Peter 1, and this is the shocker, “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.” Everything you need to become all you were meant to be, you already possess.

Some of us, most Christians (I have experienced), want multiplied peace and grace in their lives. Most Christians I have ever met want to grow in maturity. And most Christians I have ever met want to live effective, inspiring and purpose-filled lives. Lives that glorify God. Most desire to be happy. And most Christians I have ever met are going about all of that looking for something you already have! Thinking you’re missing something or must do something…

Here's the power and the property and the reward of the cross for anyone that has come to and accepted Jesus Christ. Your sheet of paper has been wiped clean and all that is required of you and of me to be right with God and to receive His promises and to receive His blessings and to receive His calling…because of grace, because of and through Jesus, He has already given. Peter says He has given us everything…it has been granted by God to us…everything you need to meet all of life’s demands…all of all you should be…the problem is if you don’t know you already have it, you go looking in places to get what you already have…adding to it, working for it….and not only do you not find it, but you are distracted and rather than growing up, you and I grow defective.

When a baby is born, they are yet undeveloped…but everything they are going to be is already coded there in that DNA. You don’t have to go looking for arms, legs, eyes, etc. Everything that life is going to need to be a life is there already…to become a full-grown person, it’s all already there. The only thing that stops you from knowing everything that is there is development, which I’ll also call growth. The process of development brings out everything that was put in there in the first place.

I don’t know what you’re looking for but let me tell you, it’s already there. Peace, joy, productivity, wisdom, happiness, purpose, strength of character and strength over sin…its already there. Why can’t I find it, then? You’re not looking in the place where it was put! All that we need to address every bit of life’s issues the Bible says He has granted you through Jesus Christ!

It says here, Peter revealed to us here what he has found…and he says, “His divine power!” Everything you need to become all that you desire to be, you already have, you’re just not growing up in it, developing in it and so there are issues of your life and avenues of your heart that remain immature and even big-babyish!

Look at 2 Peter 1:4. The location of everything He has granted is located in the “divine nature.” Your nature is your core being…your OS. God is Spirit…and so you cannot attach the divine nature primarily to your body or your soul (this is what religion seeks to do and why religion has failed and powerless in its true/revealed form)… All of our body/souls are decaying by sin and circumstance – we are distorted by this world…the corruption of this world…

On your best day you are looking at life through distortion. The thing that is supposed to sort it all out is your spirit. The problem is that we are born into this world spiritually dead. Unable to make contact with God. We are born with signal blocked…and so your soul had and has nothing to look to except the world we live in…your soul starts to look like what has happened to you…and everyone has a soul that has been damaged by the corruption of this world.

So, God quickened your human spirit by an infusion of His Holy Spirit…by being BORN AGAIN. Receiving the Spirit of God. 2 Cor 5:17. God gave you a new Spirit…He did not give you a new soul! What happened to Jesus is an example of what happens to you. The seed of the woman, the spirit of God. Think of Jesus. You have a man that can walk on water yet gets thirsty. You have a man that can produce food for thousands but He Himself is hungry. You have a man that in Him is the creation and thought and personification of love and joy and yet He weeps over the grave of His friend. Integrated into your DNA is the DNA of deity.

If I have that much God in me, why can’t I locate Him? Why can’t I make it work? Why am I always defeated? 1 Peter 1:23. “Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.” You have been born again through an incorruptible seed! When God’s Spirit entered your spirit…you got a new nature, but in seed form. And the only way you come to discover a brand-new life that has been conceived is through development. If the seed doesn’t grow and produce life it’s not because it’s not alive, it’s because it’s not being developed and cultivated by its environment! So, the reason we are not experiencing the deity of God in our Spirit is because we are satisfied to remain in seed form. Or, we just don’t know this….

But here is how it’s supposed to go. Your spirit grows up in the things of the Lord, through an increasing knowledge of the grace of God and the fact that Jesus is and has done it all… And in that, the Spirit dictates through grace and knowledge to your soul how it should think, make decisions, react, decipher, discern…and then your soul begins to change the physical things of your life by commanding your body…your flesh. All of a sudden, grace and peace multiplied! Barrenness flees, fruitfulness abounds… That’s how it’s supposed to work! But if the Spirit remains in seed form, the soul never changes. There’s only a change in the soul when there is development in the Spirit.

Therapy, medicine, soul management…is not the solution. God wants to change your soul but the key to that is the development and growth of a man/woman in the spirit. From here on out…I want you to stop saying, “I need to change,” and start saying, “I need to grow.”

What we do not need is/are new programs or culturally relevant/cliché new ways to get the same information. What we do need is personal discipline and we need spiritual environment! All of your potential is in the seed. Think of a corn stalk. All those ears of corn come from 1 seed, and 14 cycles will cover the earth! The DNA of God will overcome and overwhelm all the things of your heart and certainly in your life…but it has to grow!

It terrifies me to be in the same position next year that I am this year. Why? Because the Bible says thanks be to God who always leads us in victory…and as we behold God’s glory in our lives (2 Corinthians 3:18) we are supposed to be constantly being transformed from glory to glory…so if I find myself in the same place year after year, month after month, then no matter what I think, however much I study, however many sermons I preach and however many counseling sessions I hold…I am not being led by God.

I hate the treadmill of truth…always learning and learning but going nowhere…never able to come to the knowledge of it…walk in it…that kind of life gets me nowhere. Here’s what I know…in the whole history of the church, there has never been one single man/woman that has been strong and NOT lived the Bible. Here’s what I know, I can’t go back and change the beginning, but I can start right where I’m at and change the ending. Here’s what I know…It’s not about how much we have lost…it’s about how much we have left. Here’s what I know. It’s not about what I do or don’t do, it’s about growing towards the understanding of what Jesus has done.

The woman at the well… Jesus was in the wrong place (Samaria). He was in a wrong state (isolated and alone). He was doing the wrong thing (talking to a single and sinful woman). And He did the wrong thing. Gave her grace, mercy and acceptance rather than justice. And yet it was exactly right in all ways. Perfect in fact. And His words to her were, (John 4:10), “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have GIVEN you living water.”

So, do you have the courage? The courage to let go? Accept the grace of God through the Person of Jesus Christ? That’s where it all starts…. Blank sheet of paper… that’s not only the record of all of your sin in Jesus Christ, but that’s also what is owed to you…AND…all that you can do to earn it for yourself… Are you willing to sign?



Una vez escuché una historia sobre un joven que estaba ansioso por crecer en su vida cristiana. Consiguió un pedazo de papel e hizo una lista de todas las cosas que haría por Dios. Escribió las cosas a las que renunciaría, los lugares a los que dejaría de ir y los lugares que comenzaría a visitar con fines ministeriales. Estaba emocionado, lleno de energía ... y ese domingo tomó esa lista y la compartió con su pastor. Pensó que sentiría alegría, pero en cambio de alguna manera se sintió vacío al respecto ...
Entonces, se fue a casa y comenzó a agregar a su lista. Escribió más cosas que haría y más cosas que ya no haría. Tomó la lista más larga y la compartió el domingo siguiente nuevamente con su pastor. Se fue sintiendo más o menos lo mismo. El domingo siguiente pidió oración... no estaba seguro de por qué no estaba obteniendo ninguna tracción ... El pastor le dijo: "Toma una hoja de papel en blanco, firma tu nombre en la parte inferior, trae eso".
Crecer en el Señor es fundamental en la vida de un cristiano. Si eres cristiano hoy, porque no podemos esperar crecimiento en el Señor si no estás en el Señor, el crecimiento significa vida. Significa que hay vida en tu fe. No solo la vida palpitante del corazón, sino el significado, la realidad, el propósito, incluso la inspiración. Todas las cosas que todos perseguimos de muchas maneras. Y aunque el crecimiento es muy importante, es posible crecer incorrectamente. De hecho, al enemigo no le gustaría nada más ...
¿A qué me refiero? Bueno, puedes volverte insensible. Puedes enfriarte. Puedes cansarte. Todos esos son todavía crecimiento, pero impropios. Pablo dijo en 1 Corintios 3:10-11: "Según la gracia de Dios que me fue dada, como constructor sabio he puesto los cimientos, y otro edifica sobre ella. Pero que cada uno preste atención a cómo construye sobre él. Porque ningún otro fundamento puede poner nadie que el que ya está puesto, que es Cristo Jesús".
Pedro escribe en 2 Pedro 3:18: "Pero creced en la gracia y el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo". El coraje para crecer requiere el coraje para dejarlo ir. Pedro dice en el versículo 2 del capítulo 1: "La gracia y la paz se multipliquen para ti", y luego en los versículos 3 al 9, traza para nosotros el camino de la paz, el Google Maps de la gracia ..., "Dando toda diligencia, agregue a su fe virtud, al conocimiento de la virtud, al autocontrol del conocimiento", y así sucesivamente ... Decir que si estamos en este curso, si hemos elegido y emprendido esta dirección, entonces no seremos estériles (ineficaces) ni infructuosos (sin propósito), no seremos cortos, tendremos comprensión, veremos el panorama general y maduraremos, pasaremos de las viejas y destructivas formas, continuamente. Habitualmente y como patrón de nuestras vidas. Eso es crecimiento...
Pero en medio de estas dos exhortaciones, estas dos enseñanzas, Pedro desliza un componente crítico de toda esta receta de proceso. Él dice en el versículo 3 de 2 Pedro 1, y esto es lo sorprendente: "Su poder divino nos ha dado todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y la piedad". Todo lo que necesitas para convertirte en todo lo que estabas destinado a ser, ya lo posees.
Algunos de nosotros, la mayoría de los cristianos (yo lo he experimentado), queremos paz y gracia multiplicadas en sus vidas. La mayoría de los cristianos que he conocido quieren crecer en madurez. Y la mayoría de los cristianos que he conocido quieren vivir vidas efectivas, inspiradoras y llenas de propósito. Vidas que glorifican a Dios. La mayoría desea ser feliz. ¡Y la mayoría de los cristianos que he conocido están haciendo todo eso buscando algo que ya tienes! Pensando que te falta algo o que debes hacer algo...
Aquí está el poder, la propiedad y la recompensa de la cruz para cualquiera que haya venido y aceptado a Jesucristo. Tu hoja de papel ha sido limpiada y todo lo que se requiere de ti y de mí para estar bien con Dios y recibir Sus promesas y recibir Sus bendiciones y recibir Su llamamiento... por gracia, y a través y por medio de Jesús, Él ya ha dado. Pedro dice que nos lo ha dado todo... nos ha sido concedida por Dios... todo lo que necesitas para satisfacer todas las demandas de la vida... todo lo que deberías ser... el problema es que si no sabes que ya lo tienes, vas buscando en lugares para conseguir lo que ya tienes... añadiéndole, trabajando para ello... y no solo no lo encuentras, sino que estás distraído y en lugar de crecer, tú y yo nos volvemos defectuosos.
Cuando nace un bebé, aún no está desarrollado... pero todo lo que van a ser ya está codificado allí en ese ADN. No tienes que ir a buscar brazos, piernas, ojos, etc. Todo lo que la vida va a necesitar para ser una vida ya está ahí... para convertirse en una persona adulta, todo ya está allí. Lo único que te impide saber todo lo que hay es el desarrollo, que también llamaré crecimiento. El proceso de desarrollo saca a relucir todo lo que se puso allí en primer lugar.
No sé lo que estás buscando, pero déjame decirte que ya está allí. Paz, alegría, productividad, sabiduría, felicidad, propósito, fortaleza de carácter y fortaleza sobre el pecado... ya está allí. ¿Por qué no puedo encontrarlo, entonces? ¡No estás buscando en el lugar donde se puso! ¡Todo lo que necesitamos para abordar cada parte de los problemas de la vida que la Biblia dice que Él te ha concedido a través de Jesucristo!
Dice aquí, Pedro nos reveló aquí lo que ha encontrado... y dice: "¡Su poder divino!" Todo lo que necesitas para convertirte en todo lo que deseas ser, ya lo tienes, simplemente no estás creciendo en él, desarrollándote en él, por lo que hay problemas de tu vida y avenidas de tu corazón que permanecen inmaduros e incluso de bebé grande.
Mira 2 Pedro 1:4. La ubicación de todo lo que Él ha concedido se encuentra en la "naturaleza divina". Tu naturaleza es tu ser central... Dios es Espíritu... y así no puedes unir la naturaleza divina principalmente a tu cuerpo o tu alma (esto es lo que la religión busca hacer y por qué la religión ha fallado e impotente en su forma verdadera / revelada) ... Todo nuestro cuerpo/almas se está descomponiendo por el pecado y las circunstancias – estamos distorsionados por este mundo... la corrupción de este mundo...
En tu mejor día estás mirando la vida a través de la distorsión. Lo que se supone que debe resolverlo todo es tu espíritu. El problema es que nacemos en este mundo espiritualmente muertos. Incapaz de hacer contacto con Dios. Nacemos con la señal bloqueada... y así tu alma no tenía y no tiene nada a lo que mirar excepto el mundo en el que vivimos... tu alma comienza a parecerse a lo que te ha sucedido... y todos tienen un alma que ha sido dañada por la corrupción de este mundo.
Entonces, Dios vivifica tu espíritu humano por una infusión de Su Espíritu Santo…al NACER DE NUEVO. Recibiendo el Espiritu de Dios. 2 Corintios 5:17. Dios te dio un nuevo Espíritu... ¡Él no te dio una nueva alma! Lo que le sucedió a Jesús es un ejemplo de lo que le sucede a usted. La simiente de la mujer, el espíritu de Dios. Piensa en Jesús. Tienes un hombre que puede caminar sobre el agua pero tiene sed. Tienes un hombre que puede producir alimentos para miles de personas, pero Él mismo tiene hambre. Tienes un hombre que en Él es la creación, el pensamiento y la personificación del amor y el gozo y, sin embargo, Él llora sobre la tumba de Su amigo. Integrado en tu ADN está el ADN de la deidad.
Si tengo tanto de Dios en mí, ¿por qué no puedo localizarlo? ¿Por qué no puedo hacer que funcione? ¿Por qué siempre estoy derrotado? 1 Pedro 1:23. "Habiendo nacido de nuevo, no de semilla corruptible sino incorruptible, por medio de la palabra de Dios que vive y permanece para siempre". ¡Has nacido de nuevo a través de una semilla incorruptible! Cuando el Espíritu de Dios entró en tu espíritu... tienes una nueva naturaleza, pero en forma de semilla. Y la única forma de descubrir una nueva vida que ha sido concebida es a través del desarrollo. Si la semilla no crece y produce vida no es porque no esté viva, ¡es porque no está siendo desarrollada y cultivada por su entorno! Entonces, la razón por la que no estamos experimentando la deidad de Dios en nuestro Espíritu es porque estamos satisfechos de permanecer en forma de semilla. O simplemente no lo sabemos...
Pero así es como se supone que debe ir. Tu espíritu crece en las cosas del Señor, a través de un conocimiento creciente de la gracia de Dios y el hecho de que Jesús es y lo ha hecho todo... Y en eso, el Espíritu dicta a través de la gracia y el conocimiento a tu alma cómo debe pensar, tomar decisiones, reaccionar, descifrar, discernir... y entonces tu alma comienza a cambiar las cosas físicas de tu vida al ordenar tu cuerpo... tu carne. ¡De repente, la gracia y la paz se multiplicaron! La esterilidad huye, la fecundidad abunda... ¡Así es como se supone que debe funcionar! Pero si el Espíritu permanece en forma de semilla, el alma nunca cambia. Sólo hay un cambio en el alma cuando hay desarrollo en el Espíritu.
Terapia, medicina, manejo del alma... no es la solución. Dios quiere cambiar tu alma, pero la clave para eso es el desarrollo y crecimiento de un hombre/mujer en el espíritu. De aquí en adelante... Quiero que dejes de decir: "Necesito cambiar" y comiences a decir: "Necesito crecer".
Lo que no necesitamos son nuevos programas o nuevas formas culturalmente relevantes / cliché de obtener la misma información. ¡Lo que sí necesitamos es disciplina personal y necesitamos un ambiente espiritual! Todo tu potencial está en la semilla. Piensa en un tallo de maíz. ¡Todas esas mazorcas de maíz provienen de 1 semilla, y 14 ciclos cubrirán la tierra! El ADN de Dios vencerá y abrumar todas las cosas de tu corazón y ciertamente en tu vida... ¡pero tiene que crecer!
Me aterra estar en la misma posición el próximo año que este año. ¿Por qué? Porque la Biblia dice gracias a Dios que siempre nos guía en la victoria... y al contemplar la gloria de Dios en nuestras vidas (2 Corintios 3:18) se supone que debemos estar siendo constantemente transformados de gloria en gloria... así que si me encuentro en el mismo lugar año tras año, mes tras mes, entonces no importa lo que piense, por mucho que estudie, por muchos sermones que predique y por muchas sesiones de consejería que tenga.... No estoy siendo guiado por Dios
Odio la corredora de la verdad… siempre aprendiendo y aprendiendo, pero sin ir a ninguna parte... nunca capaz de llegar a tener conocimiento de ello... caminar en ello ... ese tipo de vida no me lleva a ninguna parte. Esto es lo que sé... en toda la historia de la iglesia, nunca ha habido un solo hombre/mujer que haya sido fuerte y NO haya vivido la Biblia. Esto es lo que sé, no puedo volver atrás y cambiar el principio, pero puedo comenzar justo donde estoy y cambiar el final. Esto es lo que sé... No se trata de cuánto hemos perdido... se trata de cuánto nos queda. Esto es lo que sé. No se trata de lo que hago o dejo de hacer, se trata de crecer hacia la comprensión de lo que Jesús ha hecho.
La mujer en el pozo... Jesús estaba en el lugar equivocado (Samaria). Estaba en un estado equivocado (aislado y solo). Él estaba haciendo lo incorrecto (hablar con una mujer soltera y pecadora). E hizo lo incorrecto. Le dio gracia, misericordia y aceptación en lugar de justicia. Y, sin embargo, era exactamente correcto en todos los sentidos. Perfecto de hecho. Y Sus palabras a ella fueron: (Juan 4:10), "Si conocieras el don de Dios, y quién es quien te dice: 'Dame de beber, le habrías pedido, y Él te habría DADO agua viva".
Entonces, ¿tienes el valor? ¿El valor de dejarlo ir? ¿Aceptar la gracia de Dios a través de la Persona de Jesucristo? Ahí es donde todo comienza.... Hoja de papel en blanco... ese no es solo el registro de todo tu pecado en Jesucristo, sino que eso es también lo que se te debe a ti... Y... todo lo que puedes hacer para ganártelo... ¿Estás dispuesto a firmar?
