2 Peter 1 vs 2-9

2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 2 – 3
•“Multiplied” The work of God in your life, in my life, how He has designed and purposed it to work in any life…is not addition… It’s not a “bolt on” of truth or goodness or happiness or righteousness…just going about our lives and we bolt on religion or we bolt on God and do our best… The work of God isn’t bolted on grace and peace…it is multiplied. Infiltrated into everything. Infested into everything about you and about me is the grace of God and the peace of God!
•Both of these things precede knowledge. Do you see that? They go hand in hand in terms of timing, but in terms of priority and importance, number one, that leads to peace, that leads to true knowledge, number one is grace. I’m entirely wired and completely keen to jump always to knowledge. It’s easier. It’s natural. But if knowledge is my primary ingredient to my personal growth in the things of God, I won’t grow as I ought to grow.
•Grace must be firmly and authoritatively the BOSS… The administrator of my peace AND my knowledge. The chaperon, the manager, the superintendent, the shot caller! If grace is not the agent through which comes my peace and knowledge of God, life and godliness, then the knowledge I gain is weak and the peace I have is false.
•Peter will write at the end of this short letter, in 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (Notice again, grace before knowledge) And he ends that same verse and this entire letter with, “To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.” When grace is the point, we grow up in the Lord.
•You know, babies make life hard. They need others to do everything, so much, for them while in return they basically puke and poop on folks. They need bibs, burp cloths, baths, blankets, bottles, about a million wipes a day and they absolutely destroy your rest! Here’s the crazy part, the whole time they’re doing all those things and needing all those things that baby has no idea what they’re doing. They’re clueless and they don’t care! They’re making lives around them horrible or at least horribly HARD while all the while demanding the lives around them make their own more comfortable.
•Herein lies the danger of a Christian that isn’t grown or growing up in the Lord in the correct order and priority of grace preceding and governing knowledge. And eventually, I’ve seen it time and time again, growing up into knowledge and not grace, not real relationship with the Lord, produces those that look like adults but puke and poop all over folks just like babies…extremely annoying, complete know-it-alls and most sadly, folks that know everything about the Bible and churchianity and Jesus but have no freedom. No grace and peace ruling in their heart of hearts and everything will one day have to be undone and rebuilt or that person will never be free…it’s a mess.
•So, here’s what grace is… Literally, the literal definition of the word is favor. Favor means you’ve got something; you’ve received something that not 1% of you warrants. Grace is everything that God is free to do for us independent of who and what we are…The enemy knows your name and yet calls you by your sins while God knows your sins and yet calls you by name. Grace is the call of Christ by the cross.
•You didn’t earn it, you can’t add to it, and in the end, it’s not about you, it’s about Jesus. It’s not your goodness, it’s His. My salvation and understanding is not a badge of honor but gifts from the Father…all through and because of and by grace…now I can add knowledge…in it’s right place and context.
•Peter says here grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has GIVEN to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…look…through the knowledge of Him… Knowledge without grace is monstrous and makes babies out of grown-ups…but knowledge through grace is everything…everything you need to walk out this life with the Lord grown and growing!
2 Peter Chapter 1 Verse 4
•The word of God is/are the promises of God. And all things contained in this book, God will bring to pass. All things He has promised…and people get so upset with God about what He does and doesn’t do but everything He does and doesn’t do has been meticulously given to us through and in His Word! Why are we so confused, so distraught and at times so frustrated…? We know the word, we’ve read it, we’ve been taught it and its all right here? Because the governor, the filter, the language perhaps that we’ve read in and learned through hasn’t been the simple grace of God.
•But it is through the precious promises of God that we have been given by His grace and that we understand and employ through the lens of grace, it is through these promises that we access all things that pertain to life and godliness…i.e. the divine nature of God.
•You and I were born with a nature and it looks awfully like a baby. Feed me, take care of me, fix me, clean me, do for me….get mine…that’s my nature, and no matter how old I get or how successful I am in this life, without a work of the Spirit of God in my heart of hearts, my nature remains fallen, self-centered and ultimately dark.
•But in order to be a Christian, to be saved, having peace with God and forgiveness of sin, Jesus said in John Chapter 3 verses 3 - 5, Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
•A Christian literally has a second nature being born again by the Spirit of God at the moment and point of salvation. Peter calls it here, “divine nature.” And the instruction manual, the guide to walking in this second nature is indeed the promises of God, the Word of God. And Peter continues…through that, we walk out on corruption. We break up with it…and by grace, we walk with God.
•But that’s not where things end…that’s where things begin. Christianity doesn’t end, it’s not all wrapped up and signed, sealed, delivered when you get saved…that’s where the journey begins with the Lord…and Peter walks us through that in the next verses!
2 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 5 – 9
•What Peter is describing here can be characterized in one word and that word is growth. Big statement here, grace is free, growth is earned. Precisely why Peter says, “Giving all diligence, add to your faith…” We are so entirely comparative. We look at others and we think, “Why am I not more like that,” and in that you are degrading yourself and truly stifling your own growth. We should look at others and say, “I really like that about them, I want to be more like that in that way.”
•What I’m getting at is that we have the best material around us all the time, especially in the church, to make amazing self-improvements and grow up in the Lord… The problem is, we immediately tend to be ashamed that we aren’t already there…and that’s a mistake. We also make the mistake in thinking that just because we aren’t yet at that thing we like in someone else, that the way we are, well, there’s just nothing good about me, I guess. Those are huge mistakes. They are self-centered. And they will keep you a baby wondering why you’re still a baby and blaming God and others for you feeling like a baby.
•Much better to humble yourself. Accept and recognize the things that are great and accept and recognize the things that are lacking. And then…advance. Develop. In the Last Days Newsletter, Leonard Ravenhill tells about a group of tourists visiting a picturesque village who walked by an old man sitting beside a fence. In a patronizing way, one tourist asked, “Were any great men born in this village?” The old man heard the tourist and replied, “Nope, only babies.” There are no instant heroes…no instant GREAT men…whether in this world or in the Kingdom of God. Growth takes time and growth must be earned. Grace is free, growth is earned.
•So how do we get started in this multiplication growth! You ever heard of the Beverly Hillbillies? “Come and listen to my story about a man named Jed, a poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed, and then one day he was shootin’ at some food, and up through the ground came a bubblin crude. Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea. Well the first thing you know ol Jed’s a millionaire….” Let me ask you, when did Jed become a millionaire? When he bought the land or when he found the oil? You see, he was a millionaire the minute he moved onto that land…he just didn’t know it yet. He hadn’t discovered it yet…
•We have been given the grace of God through the Person and payment of Jesus Christ. We have been given exceedingly great and precious promises by Him who cannot lie. All things that pertain to life and godliness… Time to become diligent, personally, for ourselves, in growing up in Him. So, inventory time…what is good about you? If you said nothing then you are walking in pride, you’re in the flesh and God cannot work with you and you will not grow. What’s good about you? Recognize and accept that. Now, what’s lacking. Recognize and accept that as well and start seeking the Lord in all of those things…on one hand, in gratitude and in the other in being teachable…both indeed are humility. And you will grow… More on that next week!

2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 2 – 3
· "Multiplicado" La obra de Dios en tu vida, en mi vida, cómo Él la ha diseñado y se ha propuesto para que funcione en cualquier vida... no es adición... No es un "tornillo" de verdad o bondad o felicidad o rectitud... simplemente siguiendo con nuestras vidas y nos atornillamos a la religión o nos atornillamos a Dios y hacemos nuestro mejor esfuerzo ... La obra de Dios no está atornillada a la gracia y la paz... se multiplica. Infiltrado en todo. ¡Infestada en todo sobre ti y sobre mí está la gracia de Dios y la paz de Dios!
· Ambas cosas preceden al conocimiento. ¿Ves eso? Van de la mano en términos de tiempo, pero en términos de prioridad e importancia, número uno, que conduce a la paz, que conduce al verdadero conocimiento, el número uno es la gracia. Estoy completamente conectado y completamente ansioso por saltar siempre al conocimiento. Es más fácil. Es natural. Pero si el conocimiento es mi ingrediente principal para mi crecimiento personal en las cosas de Dios, no creceré como debería crecer.
· La gracia debe ser firme y autoritariamente el JEFE... El administrador de mi paz Y mi conocimiento. ¡El acompañante, el gerente, el superintendente, el llamador de disparos! Si la gracia no es el agente a través del cual viene mi paz y conocimiento de Dios, vida y piedad, entonces el conocimiento que obtengo es débil y la paz que tengo es falsa.
· Pedro escribirá al final de esta breve carta, en 2 Pedro 3:18, "Pero creced en la gracia y el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo". (Fíjate de nuevo, la gracia antes que el conocimiento) Y termina ese mismo versículo y toda esta carta con: "A Él sea la gloria tanto ahora como para siempre. Amén". Cuando la gracia es el punto, crecemos en el Señor.
· Ya sabes, los bebés hacen la vida difícil. Necesitan que otros hagan todo, tanto, por ellos, mientras que a cambio básicamente vomitan y hacen caca en la gente. Necesitan baberos, paños para eructar, baños, mantas, botellas, alrededor de un
¡millones de toallitas al día y destruyen absolutamente tu descanso! Aquí está la parte loca, todo el tiempo que están haciendo todas esas cosas y necesitan todas esas cosas que el bebé no tiene idea de lo que están haciendo. ¡No tienen ni idea y no les importa! Están haciendo que las vidas a su alrededor sean horribles o al menos horriblemente DIFÍCILES, mientras que al mismo tiempo exigen que las vidas a su alrededor hagan que las suyas sean más cómodas.
· Aquí radica el peligro de un cristiano que no ha crecido o crecido en el Señor en el orden correcto y la prioridad de la gracia que precede y gobierna el conocimiento. Y eventualmente, lo he visto una y otra vez, creciendo en el conocimiento y no en la gracia, no en una relación real con el Señor, produce aquellos que parecen adultos, pero vomitan y hacen caca en todas las personas como bebés ... extremadamente molestos, completos sabelotodo y, lo que es más triste, personas que saben todo sobre la Biblia y la iglesia y Jesús, pero no tienen libertad. Ninguna gracia y paz gobiernan en su corazón de corazones y todo algún día tendrá que ser deshecho y reconstruido o esa persona nunca será libre ... es un desastre.
· Entonces, esto es lo que es la gracia ... Literalmente, la definición literal de la palabra es favor. Favor significa que tienes algo; has recibido algo que ni el 1% de ti garantiza. La gracia es todo lo que Dios es libre de hacer por nosotros independientemente de quiénes y qué somos... El enemigo conoce tu nombre y, sin embargo, te llama por tus pecados, mientras que Dios conoce tus pecados y, sin embargo, te llama por tu nombre. La gracia es el llamado de Cristo por la cruz.
· No te lo ganaste, no puedes agregarle, y al final, no se trata de ti, se trata de Jesús. No es tu bondad, es la suya. Mi salvación y entendimiento no es una insignia de honor, sino de dones del Padre... todo a través de y por gracia... ahora puedo añadir conocimiento... en su lugar y contexto correctos.
· Pedro dice aquí que la gracia y la paz se multipliquen para ustedes en el conocimiento de Dios y de Jesús nuestro Señor, ya que Su poder divino nos ha DADO todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y la piedad ... mirar... a través del conocimiento de Él... El conocimiento sin gracia es monstruoso y hace bebés de adultos... pero el conocimiento a través de la gracia lo es todo... ¡todo lo que necesitas para salir de esta vida con el Señor crecido y creciendo!
2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículo 4
· La palabra de Dios es/son las promesas de Dios. Y todas las cosas contenidas en este libro, Dios las llevará a cabo. Todas las cosas que Él ha prometido... y la gente se enoja tanto con Dios por lo que Él hace y lo que no hace, ¡pero todo lo que Él hace y no hace nos ha sido meticulosamente dado a través y en Su Palabra! ¿Por qué estamos tan confundidos, tan angustiados y a veces tan frustrados...? Conocemos la palabra, la hemos leído, nos la han enseñado y ¿está todo bien aquí? Porque el gobernador, el filtro, el lenguaje que tal vez hemos leído y aprendido no ha sido la simple gracia de Dios.
· Pero es a través de las preciosas promesas de Dios que nos han sido dadas por Su gracia y que entendemos y empleamos a través de la lente de la gracia, es a través de estas promesas que accedemos a todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y la piedad ... es decir, la naturaleza divina de Dios.
· Tú y yo nacimos con una naturaleza y se parece terriblemente a un bebé. Alimentarme, cuidarme, arreglarme, limpiarme, hacer por mí... conseguir el mío... esa es mi naturaleza, y no importa cuán viejo tenga o cuán exitoso sea en esta vida, sin una obra del Espíritu de Dios en mi corazón de corazones, mi naturaleza permanece caída, egocéntrica y, en última instancia, oscura.
· Pero para ser cristiano, para ser salvo, tener paz con Dios y perdón de pecados, Jesús dijo en Juan capítulo 3 versículos 3 - 5, Jesús respondió y le dijo: "Con toda seguridad, te digo, a menos que uno nazca de nuevo, no puede ver el reino de Dios". Nicodemo le dijo: "¿Cómo puede nacer un hombre cuando es viejo? ¿Puede entrar por segunda vez en el vientre de su madre y nacer?" Jesús respondió: "De cierto de cierto, les digo, a menos que uno nazca del agua y del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el reino de Dios".
· Un cristiano literalmente tiene una segunda naturaleza al nacer de nuevo por el Espíritu de Dios en el momento y punto de salvación. Pedro lo llama aquí, "naturaleza divina". Y el manual de instrucciones, la guía para caminar en esta segunda naturaleza es de hecho las promesas de Dios, la Palabra de Dios. Y Pedro continúa... a través de eso, salimos de la corrupción. Rompemos con ella... y por gracia, caminamos con Dios.
· Pero ahí no terminan las cosas... ahí es donde empiezan las cosas. El cristianismo no termina, no todo está envuelto y firmado, sellado, entregado cuando te salvas... ahí es donde comienza el viaje con el Señor... ¡y Pedro nos guía a través de eso en los siguientes versículos!
2 Pedro Capítulo 1 Versículos 5– 9
· Lo que Pedro está describiendo aquí se puede caracterizar en una palabra y esa palabra es crecimiento. Gran declaración aquí, la gracia es gratuita, el crecimiento se gana. Precisamente por eso Pedro dice: "Dando toda diligencia, añádele a tu fe..." Somos totalmente comparativos. Miramos a los demás y pensamos: "¿Por qué no soy más así?", y en eso te estás degradando y realmente sofocando tu propio crecimiento. Deberíamos mirar a los demás y decir: "Realmente me gusta eso de ellos, quiero ser más así de esa manera".
· A lo que estoy tratando de llagar es que tenemos el mejor material a nuestro alrededor todo el tiempo, especialmente en la iglesia, para hacer increíbles mejoras personales y crecer en el Señor ... El problema es que inmediatamente tendemos a avergonzarnos de no estar ya allí... y eso es un error. También cometemos el error de pensar que solo porque aún no estamos en esa cosa que nos gusta en otra persona, que de la manera en que somos, bueno, no hay nada bueno en mí, supongo. Esos son errores enormes. Son egocéntricos. Y te mantendrán como un bebé preguntándote por qué todavía eres un bebé y culpando a Dios y a los demás por sentirte como un bebé.
· Mucho mejor humillarse. Acepta y reconoce las cosas que son grandes y acepta y reconoce las cosas que faltan. Y entonces... avanza. Desarrolla. En el Boletín de los Últimos Días, Leonard Ravenhill cuenta sobre un grupo de turistas que visitan un pintoresco pueblo que caminaba junto a un anciano sentado junto a una valla. De una manera condescendiente , un turista preguntó: "¿Nacieron grandes hombres en este pueblo?" El anciano escuchó al turista y respondió: "No, solo bebés". No hay héroes instantáneos ... no hay GRANDES hombres instantáneos ... ya sea en este mundo o en el Reino de Dios. El crecimiento lleva tiempo y el crecimiento debe ser ganado. La gracia es gratuita, el crecimiento se gana.
· Entonces, ¿cómo comenzamos en este crecimiento de multiplicación? ¿Alguna vez has oído hablar de los Beverly Hillbillies? "Ven y escucha mi historia sobre un hombre llamado Jed, un montañero pobre, que apenas mantenía a su familia alimentada, y luego un día estaba disparando a algo de comida, y por el suelo llegó un burbujeante crudo. Aceite es decir, oro negro, té de Texas. Bueno, lo primero que sabes es que Jed es millonario..." Déjame preguntarte, ¿cuándo se convirtió Jed en millonario? ¿Cuándo compró la tierra o cuando encontró el petróleo? Verás, era millonario en el momento en que se mudó a esa tierra ... simplemente no lo sabía todavía. Todavía no lo había descubierto ...
· Se nos ha dado la gracia de Dios a través de la Persona y el pago de Jesucristo. Hemos recibido promesas extremadamente grandes y preciosas por Aquel que no puede mentir. Todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y la piedad ... Es hora de ser diligentes, personalmente, para nosotros mismos, en crecer en Él. Entonces, el tiempo de inventario ... ¿Qué hay de bueno en ti? Si no dijiste nada, entonces estás caminando con orgullo, estás en la carne y Dios no puede trabajar contigo y no crecerás. ¿Qué hay de bueno en ti? Reconocer y aceptar eso. Ahora, lo que falta. Reconozca y acepte eso también y comience a buscar al Señor en todas esas cosas... por un lado, en gratitud y por otro en ser enseñable... ambos son, de hecho, humildad. Y crecerás... ¡!Más sobre eso la próxima semana!
