2 Peter 2 vs 11-22

Review of what we’ve already covered in Chapter 2: What makes a person a false prophet or a false teacher? Anyone in the faith, in the church, that through whatever they are teaching, whether it be good information or not, or whatever they are doing, or whatever their behavior, pulls you away from the Lord OR what the Lord desires or has planned for you.
Characteristics of a false teacher, false prophet: They are among us, they utilize secrecy or trickery and what they are teaching, spreading or doing, the end of it is destructive (that’s all verse 1). Also, their motive is covetousness and they are smart…they exploit other’s weaknesses (that’s all in verse 3). Finally, they really don’t like anyone having authority and they are extremely self-willed. That brings us up to verse 11…
2 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 11
•This is interesting, because many Bible commentators believe this to be a reference to the strength and might of Michael who in the Book of Jude faced off against Lucifer and didn’t exert his own authority but when arguing with Lucifer said to him, “The Lord rebuke you.” And so even in the exercising of his own power, he displayed submission and reverence to the will and power of God over his own. And I think that’s good and acceptable…
•But, just taking this at face value, Michael isn’t mentioned, this is just simply talking about angels who today have authority in that how they are greater in power and might, hold their tongues against false prophets, why? They know God is going to deal with them. That’s the context here… That even though they see and know and have the authority, they choose to defer to the judgment of God rather than their own judgment. Which in fact and by the way is the opposite of the false teacher and/or the one walking in the flesh.
•Here’s the deal, don’t deal with a false prophet by becoming a false prophet! We can do that… Paul wrote in the Book of Romans to not return evil for evil but overcome evil with good. Why? Because evil doesn’t overcome evil. HA. Only good triumphs over evil… That is the call here and the contextual applicable truth Peter is conveying.
2 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 12 – 13
•Peter is firing full barrel here against this “brute beast” threat, the wolf in sheep’s clothing. How do you know a wolf? Sheep get eaten. Sheep disappear. Now look, sheep bite sheep. It just happens. Sheep offend other sheep with ignorance, smelliness, clumsiness…HA. And we gotta work through that and we do and those things happen, but when sheep are being devoured, that’s a wolf. And that is a characteristic just like our enemy as Peter wrote in 1 Peter 5:8, “Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
•And as a fellow sheep and under-shepherd serving the Lord on this planet, we, you and I have a responsibility to confront those that Peter is writing about, and let me tell you, it must not only be done, but it must be done without any hesitation or delay. I love the calling and the privilege of pastoring. And in this calling, I am to love the Lord with ALL of my heart, soul, mind and strength and then love this flock as unto the Lord. Each of you incredibly intensely important and loved by Jesus. And so, with the same integrity of passion and grit that I am to love the flock, I am also to address the antagonist.
•And I know that is an uncomfortable statement and even more uncomfortable action…for you and for me…but here’s where it settles in my heart, because this radical Biblical resolution will end up with people being upset with me, maybe even against me and certainly leaving the church. But am I here to tend and feed the flock to the wolves? Absolutely not!
•First, I am after the spirit of the wolf in me. I mean this one is so entirely basic and really should be each and every Christian… I have a propensity to show partiality, to look out for myself, to disregard the position and perspective of others, and that type of mentality bites other sheep at best, and is in danger of devouring, totally devastating a fellow child of God. And so, I am on the hunt first in my own heart, mind, thoughts, actions, statements, attitudes that are wolfish. Are you?
•And second, ultimately, I will answer to Jesus for the care of His church…I will not answer to any other fellow sheep, and that has become over the years the settling agent when people despise me for attacking assault on and to and within the body of Christ. I just cannot and will not dwell on the fact that I am no longer a walk-on-water perfect pastor in their eyes. I have to and I am ok with that. You cannot and I will not worry about the worldly fall-out that may, can, will and often does come from confronting a wolf…
•Oh, but pastor, just do it in love seasoned with grace…no. Wolves don’t speak that language. That’s not how I handle the devil…that’s not how Michael handled him…he rebuked him. And so, with the same fervor and intensity we seek to serve the Body of Christ, we hunt, pursue and will overwhelm the body of the adversary…and again, how do we know? Sheep are being eaten…
•And there’s a short and hard-hitting lesson on unrighteousness in these verses as well… Because notice, Peter says there in verse 13, he speaks of the wages of unrighteousness. Like, what does walking in the flesh, (not acknowledging or listening to God), what does it pay? And the wages are listed here…, being caught…that speaks of a trap. Sin never advertises the result, only the pleasure of the indulgence.
•You’ve heard the mantra, “If it feels good, do it!” You know that is about the most foolish thought one could consider on a matter, right? If it leads to goodness, do it. What if it feels good and you lose your family for those couple moments of pleasure? What if it feels good and you tell your boss where he/she can put your TPS reports! HA! And you lose your job. Sin advertises the beer commercial, you and Snoop living it up on a beach somewhere making raps, “The high life,” but never shows the results of a life of alcoholism…
•The wages continue from the trap to it says there in verse 12 that they are caught and destroyed…there’s the accurate Corona commercial! And continuing Peter says that the unwise perish in their own corruption… The final blow of the destruction that living apart from God will bring is the realization that no one can be faulted or blamed but me, but yourself… And that is hard to bounce back from… Because now its not others that think you’re a bad guy, it’s you…
2 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 14 - 17
•Ok, check this out, all of this under-the-surface vision that Peter wants us to have but notice, on the surface, what will they look like? “Natural brute beasts,” strong, impressive, attractive even…, “carousing in the daytime,” having a good time, doing well, smiling, maybe even laughing, cutting up…, “carousing in their own deceptions and feasting with you.” Living it up, man…fully convinced of their own stuff…what’s that look like? Confidence! Is confidence attractive? Absolutely.
•“Heart trained in covetous practice,” and so they know how to get what they want and they HAVE what they want. They look like wells but no water. They look like clouds, heavenly maybe, but they turn and change, even turn on you on a dime. What’s my point… Man, we gotta be on alert…because a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a false prophet, a narcissist will appeal to almost the entirety of our flesh!
2 Peter Chapter 2 Verses 18 – 22
•THIS. IS. MAJOR. Is Peter saying that a Christian, who knows Christ, is saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit, can be lured by a false prophet to lose their faith and therefore go to hell? No way…in a way, it’s worldly worse than that. If the enemy can’t have your soul, he’ll be just fine to take your life.
•This is a Christian that has been derailed, duped, overcome and entangled and in that turned through deceit to unholiness… Traded holiness for happiness… and now, they’ve lost their marriage, their job, their ministry, their dignity, their self-respect and the respect of others…how do you recover from that? Honest truth, without total surrender to the Lord, total openness about what’s happened and total humility, in a way and in a portion, you don’t.
•Your recovery, truly, will be in the life to come… There is an avenue of your heart and life that is forever affected that a person will wrestle with and contend with and have to deal with for the rest of their lives. And this is a primary reason why people leave the ministry and all together, saved and all, stop serving the Lord. Because something about them just no longer fits…in their minds… This is where grace is so necessary!
•And this is serious to the point that Peter says, it would have been better for them to not have known what was right, having now chosen wrong…, or the internal turmoil of being duped into it all… and the affect is so incredible that although they are saved, they will forever feel like a dog or a pig in the house of God… And that is tragic. Now, God is able to restore but it is drastic and takes a drastic work of humility and repentance in the heart of the victim…possible, just very very difficult.
•Ultimately, knowledge is indeed responsibility. Once you’ve been exposed to the truth, you’re accountable. And the work of the flesh, the world and the enemy is to convince you to walk in the flesh and disregard the truth of God’s Word and God’s will but that path is precisely what ruins a life. Trading holiness for happiness… and most don’t realize it until it’s too late. So you’ve done it, so have I, so have we all, ok. Breathe, remember, repent and return to the fact that through Jesus…you have ESCAPED and no matter what has happened, you are PURE! If the lion has devoured you, make him barf!



Repaso de lo que ya hemos cubierto en el capítulo 2: ¿Qué hace que una persona sea un falso profeta o un falso maestro? Cualquiera en la fe, en la iglesia, que a través de lo que sea que estén enseñando, ya sea buena información o no, o lo que sea que estén haciendo, o cualquiera que sea su comportamiento, te aleja del Señor O de lo que el Señor desea o ha planeado para ti.
Características de un falso maestro, falso profeta: Están entre nosotros, utilizan el secreto o el engaño y lo que están enseñando, difundiendo o haciendo, el final es destructivo (eso es todo el versículo 1). Además, su motivo es la codicia y son inteligentes ... explotan las debilidades de los demás (eso es todo en el versículo 3). Finalmente, realmente no les gusta que nadie tenga autoridad y son extremadamente voluntariosos. Eso nos lleva al versículo 11...
2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículo 11
· Esto es interesante, porque muchos comentaristas de la Biblia creen que esto es una referencia a la fuerza y el poder de Miguel, quien en el Libro de Judas se enfrentó a Lucifer y no ejerció su propia autoridad, pero al discutir con Lucifer le dijo: "El Señor te reprende". Y así, incluso en el ejercicio de su propio poder, mostró sumisión y reverencia a la voluntad y el poder de Dios sobre los suyos. Y creo que eso es bueno y aceptable...
· Pero, solo tomando esto al pie de la letra, No se menciona a Miguel, esto es simplemente hablar de ángeles que hoy tienen autoridad en que cómo son más grandes en poder y fuerza, sostienen sus lenguas contra los falsos profetas, ¿por qué? Saben que Dios va a tratar con ellos. Ese es el contexto aquí... Que a pesar de que ven, conocen y tienen la autoridad, eligen diferir al juicio de Dios en lugar de su propio juicio. Que de hecho y por cierto es lo opuesto al falso maestro y/o al que camina en la carne.
· Aquí está el trato, ¡no trates con un falso profeta convirtiéndote en un falso profeta! Podemos hacer eso... Pablo escribió en el Libro de Romanos que no devolviera el mal por el mal, sino que venciera el mal con el bien. ¿Por qué? Porque el mal no vence al mal. Ja. Sólo el bien triunfa sobre el mal... Ese es el llamado aquí y la verdad contextual aplicable que Pedro está transmitiendo.
2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 12– 13
· Pedro está disparando el cañón lleno aquí contra esta amenaza de "bestia bruta", el lobo con piel de oveja. ¿Cómo conoces a un lobo? Las ovejas se comen. Las ovejas desaparecen. Ahora mira, las ovejas muerden a las ovejas. Simplemente sucede. Las ovejas ofenden a otras ovejas con ignorancia, olfato, torpeza... Ja. Y tenemos que trabajar a través de eso y lo hacemos y esas cosas suceden, pero cuando las ovejas están siendo devoradas, eso es un lobo. Y esa es una característica al igual que nuestro enemigo como Pedro escribió en 1 Pedro 5:8: "Tu adversario el diablo camina como un león rugiente, buscando a quién devorar".
· Y como compañeros pastores y pastores que sirven al Señor en este planeta, nosotros, usted y yo tenemos la responsabilidad de confrontar a aquellos sobre los que Pedro está escribiendo, y déjenme decirles, no solo debe hacerse, sino que debe hacerse sin ninguna vacilación o demora. Me encanta el llamado y el privilegio de pastorear. Y en este llamamiento, debo amar al Señor con TODO mi corazón, alma, mente y fuerza y luego amar a este rebaño como al Señor. Cada uno de ustedes increíblemente intensamente importante y amado por Jesús. Y así, con la misma integridad de pasión y determinación que debo amar al rebaño, también debo dirigirme al antagonista.
· Y sé que es una declaración incómoda y una acción aún más incómoda ... para ti y para mí... pero aquí es donde se instala en mi corazón, porque esta resolución bíblica radical terminará con personas molestas conmigo, tal vez incluso contra mí y ciertamente dejando la iglesia. Pero, ¿estoy aquí para cuidar y alimentar al rebaño con los lobos? ¡En absoluto!
· Primero, estoy detrás del espíritu del lobo en mí. Quiero decir que este es tan completamente básico y realmente debería ser todos y cada uno de los cristianos ... Tengo una propensión a mostrar parcialidad, a cuidarme a mí mismo, a ignorar la posición y la perspectiva de los demás, y ese tipo de mentalidad muerde a otras ovejas en el mejor de los casos, y está en peligro de devorar, devastar totalmente a un compañero hijo de Dios. Y así, estoy al caza primero en mi propio corazón, mente, pensamientos, acciones, declaraciones, actitudes que son de un lobo. ¿ Tu lo Estas?
· Y segundo, en última instancia, responderé a Jesús por el cuidado de Su iglesia... No responderé a ningún otro compañero de oveja, y eso se ha convertido a lo largo de los años en el agente de asentamiento cuando la gente me desprecia por atacar el asalto al, hacia y dentro del cuerpo de Cristo. Simplemente no puedo y no me detendré en el hecho de que ya no soy un pastor perfecto a sus ojos. Tengo que hacerlo y estoy de acuerdo con eso. No puedes y no me preocuparé por las consecuencias mundanas que podrian, pueden, y que a menudo llegan al enfrentarse a un lobo ...
· Ah, pero pastor, solo hazlo en amor sazonado con gracia... No. Los lobos no hablan ese idioma. No es así como manejo al diablo... no es así como Michael lo manejó... lo reprendió. Y así, con el mismo fervor e intensidad que buscamos servir al Cuerpo de Cristo, cazamos, perseguimos y abrumaremos el cuerpo del adversario... y de nuevo, ¿cómo lo sabemos? Se están comiendo ovejas...
· Y también hay una breve y contundente lección sobre la injusticia en estos versículos... Porque fíjate, Pedro dice allí en el versículo 13, él habla de la paga de la injusticia. Como, ¿qué hace caminar en la carne, (no reconocer o escuchar a Dios), ¿qué paga? Y los salarios se enumeran aquí..., siendo atrapados... eso habla de una trampa. El pecado nunca anuncia el resultado, sólo el placer de la indulgencia.
· Has escuchado el mantra: "Si se siente bien, ¡hazlo!" Sabes que se trata del pensamiento más tonto que uno podría considerar sobre un asunto, ¿verdad? Si conduce a la bondad, hazlo. ¿Qué pasa si se siente bien y pierdes a tu familia por esos momentos de placer en pareja? ¡Qué pasa si se siente bien y le dices a tu jefe dónde puede poner tus informes de TPS! ¡Ja! Y pierdes tu trabajo. El Pecado anuncia el comercial de la cerveza, tú y Juanito vivendo la vida en una playa en algún lugar haciendo raps, “La gran y alta Vida” pero nunca muestra los resultados de una vida de alcoholismo...
· Los salarios continúan desde la trampa hasta que dice allí en el versículo 12 que son capturados y destruidos... ¡Ahí está el comercial preciso de Corona!
Y continuando Pedro dice que los imprudentes, faltos de sabiduría perecen en su propia corrupción... El golpe final de la destrucción que traerá vivir separado de Dios traerá la realización de que nadie puede ser culpado o acusado sino yo, sino tú mismo... Y eso es difícil de recuperar... Porque ahora no son otros los que piensan que eres un chico malo, eres tú...
2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 14 - 17
· Ok, echa un vistazo a esto, toda esta visión debajo de la superficie que Pedro quiere que tengamos, pero fíjate, en la superficie, ¿cómo se verán? "Bestias brutas naturales", fuertes, impresionantes, atractivas incluso..., "carrusel durante el día", pasándolo bien, haciéndolo bien, sonriendo, tal vez incluso riendo, divirtiendose..., "haciendo carrusel en sus propios engaños y festejando contigo". Vivirlo, hombre... plenamente convencidos de sus propias cosas... ¿Cómo es eso? ¡Confianza! ¿Es atractiva la confianza? Absolutamente.
· "Corazón entrenado en la práctica codiciosa", y así saben cómo obtener lo que quieren y TIENEN lo que quieren. Parecen pozos pero no agua. Parecen nubes, celestiales tal vez, pero se vuelven y cambian, incluso se vuelven contra ti en un centavo. ¿Cuál es mi punto ... Hombre, tenemos que estar en alerta... ¡porque un lobo con piel de oveja, un falso profeta, un narcisista apelará a casi la totalidad de nuestra carne!
2 Pedro Capítulo 2 Versículos 18–22
· ÉSTE. Es. DESTACADO. ¿Está pedro diciendo que un cristiano, que conoce a Cristo, es salvo y sellado por el Espíritu Santo, puede ser atraído por un falso profeta para perder su fe y por lo tanto ir al infierno? No es posible... en cierto modo, es mundano peor que eso. Si el enemigo no puede tener tu alma, se conforma con quitarte la vida.
· Este es un cristiano que ha sido descarrilado, engañado, vencido y enredado y en eso se ha convertido a través del engaño a la falta de santidad ... Cambió la santidad por la felicidad... y ahora, han perdido su matrimonio, su trabajo, su ministerio, su dignidad, su autoestima y el respeto de los demás... ¿Cómo te recuperas de eso? Verdad honesta, sin rendirse totalmente al Señor, sin total apertura y aceptación sobre lo que ha sucedido, has hecho y sin humildad total, en cierto modo y cierta porción, no lo harás.
· Tu recuperación, verdaderamente, estará en la vida venidera... Hay una avenida de su corazón y de su vida que se ve afectada para siempre con la que una persona luchará, lidiará y tendrá que lidiar por el resto de sus vidas. Y esta es una razón principal por la cual las personas dejan el ministerio y todos juntos, salvos y todos, dejan de servir al Señor. Porque algo sobre ellos simplemente ya no encaja ... en sus mentes... ¡Aquí es donde la gracia es tan necesaria!
· Y esto es grave hasta el punto de que Pedro dice, habría sido mejor para ellos no haber sabido lo que estaba bien, habiendo elegido ahora el mal ..., o la agitación interna de ser engañados en todo esto ... y el afecto es tan increíble que aunque se salven, siempre se sentirán como un perro o un cerdo en la casa de Dios ... Y eso es trágico. Ahora, Dios es capaz de restaurar, pero es drástico y toma una obra drástica de humildad y arrepentimiento en el corazón de la víctima... posible, simplemente muy muy difícil.
· En última instancia, el conocimiento es de hecho responsabilidad. Una vez que has estado expuesto a la verdad, eres responsable. Y la obra de la carne, del mundo y del enemigo es convencerte de que camines en la carne y no tengas en cuenta la verdad de la Palabra de Dios y la voluntad de Dios, pero ese camino es precisamente lo que arruina una vida. Cambiando la santidad por la felicidad... y la mayoría no se da cuenta hasta que es demasiado tarde. Así que tú lo has hecho, yo también, así hemos hecho todos, ok. Respira, recuerda, arrepiéntete y vuelve al hecho de que a través de Jesús... has ESCAPADO y no importa lo que haya pasado, ¡eres PURO! Si el león te ha devorado, ¡hazlo vomitar!
